Dear Desertnauts, welcome to this Saturday's PM drive. As usual, I wish to give you a preview of what's to come. Tomorrow I'll complete the drive plan by providing the final convoy numbering, and radio frequency. The idea, as often with Carnity, is to explore new locations, open up new routes, at first with higher ranked convoys, and later, once better tested, to open them to all members. This particular itinerary will take us from Murqab to Faqa and beyond. This area will require some attention, both on my part as leader, and on yours as drivers. The first segment of the drive (Murqab to Faqa) will be at first characterized by tall, open dunes, with some limited amount of vegetation (small bushes), then it will slowly present more tight cordons, lower in height, with still some vegetation. The most complex element will be represented by some very tight, technical dunes (low, very close to each other, with sharp ridges and extremely soft bowls), which we will do our best to avoid, navigating within a more accessible corridor, until we'll reach northern Faqa's sabkha. I will have to patiently find appropriate places to cross the dunes and advance through this first segment of the itinerary. You will have to remain as concentrated as possible, and show the utmost respect for discipline, respecting convoy distancing and safety protocols to minimize refusals and stucks. Once reached northern Faqa, we will proceed through the area well away from AD's border, in the direction of Little Sweihan, with the goal of reaching as far as the sunlight will allow us to. Wherever we will be at sunset, there will be sufficient exit tracks to lead us toward Solar Park, which will be our final exit point. @Chinthaka Ruwan, @PaoloMaraziti, @Nihal17, @Alain Canivet-Abikhalil, @Sunil Mathew, @Darren Brooke, @Mario Cornejo and @Matt.T, I am looking forward to seeing you on Saturday afternoon. In the meantime, have a nice weekend.5 points

Richard @Wrangeld thank you for organising and leading today's drive, the route chosen was great and, coupled with the cool morning weather, it made a good preamble to the weekend. @Hisham Masaad thanks for your support during the drive. Wish everyone a great weekend and safe drives ahead. Warm regards.3 points

Post Drive Report Alex Raptor @Alex Raptor GauravSoni @Gaurav Soni (N/S) Mario Cornejo @Mario Cornejo varunmehndiratta @varunmehndiratta Hisham Masaad @Hisham Masaad Russ @Russ Ashok Chaturvedi @Ashok chaturvedi Thanks for the great drive this morning. Incident free, free flowing, well paced and losts of varied and different challenges. We navigated a small patch of Qudra dunes that are rarely visited - which is why there are no tracks - so got the chance for a lot of virgin sand driving [or at least I did at the front of the convoy!]. As it often is these days in Quda - soft, soft sand. As it traditionally is on my drives - technical dunes - where everyone did really well. There has been a msssive improvement in the capabilities of the Carnity drivers to handle small technical dunes since we started to lead drives that spent more than a few minutes in them and everyone did really well there today. Covering 44km with the amount of technical we did is no mean feat. Thanks for coming along and playing your part. See you soon in the sand.3 points

Thanks for leading! Looking forward to the drive tomorrow! I understand the underpass is open at Nazwa which saves a few Kms in the morning (although I missed it myself on last weeks drive…) Will2 points

Hi, Just recently bought a second hand 2013 Xterra Off Road with rear diff lock, traction control and ABS kill; but this will be the first time I have taken it off-road. Had a Pajero for the last few years, but the wife drives that and doesn't want me to take it off-road anymore. Have been driving off-road and camping with friends for a few years and and also did a course with one of the driving schools. Have all the equipment - compressor, shovel, radio, snatch rope, flag, front & back tow points. Watched the intro video last night, so good to go. Will be bringing my 15yr old son with me, who is as keen as I am and a great co-pilot. See you in the morning. Brendan.2 points

Thanks Richard @Wrangeld for the mid-week blast around Qudra, lots of practice in the soft technical stuff to keep our minds focused! Lets hope the cooler weather continues now.. Thanks and see you all soon.2 points
-
Many thanks @Wrangeld for the week day drive, short and quick, but really good and enjoyed. Warming for the weekend drives. As mentioned, all were floating on sand, without issues to mention, despite the sand softness. Weather was really good and temperature was much lower than previous days. Look forward for more week days drives and see you soon.2 points

Hi @Brette sorry for the late reply. I have a 2015 Pajero 3.5 LWB. I do have hooks on both front and rear and I think I have atleast 8 inches ground clearance. Hope to have a great experience tomorrow as it is my first time offroading. Thanks a lot!1 point

Hi @Bernard Kalaani.. thanks for your interest in joining this drive. Unfortunately, I will have to decline your RSVP to this drive as it's requires Fewbie level as a minimum and I noticed you only had one drive with Carnity (Absolute Newbie). After completion of the AN drive you can start joining any Newbie drive with Carnity until you complete the required qualifications for Fewbie promotion which you can apply for online. Please go through the below club grading structure which will help clarify more about the different levels and required qualifications. Looking forward for driving with you soon.1 point

Great topic! 1 to 3 are my favorite while driving to / from meeting points, then 4 and 5 are albums and what my son calls "sand music" because is what I play as soon as we get on sand. 1. Clavado en un bar - Maná (México) 2. Que bonita es esta vida - Jorge Celedón (Colombia) 3. The gambler - Kenny Rogers 4. Cinematic Middle East - Alex Golding 5. A Wish - Hamza El Din (Egypt) I don't have a Spotify account, my daughter is helping on this while rolling up her eyes 🤣1 point

Hi @Janarthan I managed to get invited to the other fewbie drive on Friday by Tbone. So please drop my name from the waiting list. thanks1 point

2019 comes in v8 5.6L 400hp and v6 4.0L 275hp. The older 2010-2015 models come in two v8 options both 5.6L but one with 320Hp and 400hp. Basically on such a heavy vehicle the fuel consumption on a v6 is very much similar to the v8. In certain occasions I found that the v8 consumes less! It depends how you drive the vehicle and at what speeds, can vary pretty much between city and highway. The best I got on highway and on speeds less than 120 (around 110) was 14L/100km, but this if you reset the meter while driving on the highway. Combined city+highway: i never got anything better than 19-20L/100km. Sometime it goes up to 22L/100km. If you drive it un city alone, then you need a petrol station connected behind you.1 point

Ah, apologies. Understood. This is my only drive for the weekend. Please let me know if it shows me signed up for anything else as that will be an error. Look forward to seeing you on Friday.1 point

@PaoloMarazitiYou are right, the problem is my elder son also likes to do Off road, so when he is on holidays, he also take one of my cars, so it is never enough cars either. I also realized, there is no end on car upgrades, it is too dangerous, haha1 point
