Al Jabib to Faqa: The Reopening - Drive Report Be patient when you sit in the dark. The dawn is coming - Rumi Extreme drives are not always synonym with speed and intimidating terrains. Sometimes extreme can be an unexpected adverse condition, or the beauty of an area unveiling itself in front of the convoy. Extreme was the fog that shrouded the Faqa District for most of the early morning, and extreme was our surprise at finding, and exploring, a beautiful. unspoiled, set of long and wavy dunes, where we zipped around with gusto as soon as the fog lifted. In fact, just reaching the meeting point, and doing so in good time, was a small feat in its own right: the gravel and sand tracks leading to it from the Al Khadr exit on E66 had a visibility of virtually zero meters, and occasionally produced small groups of camels walking along the side of the track, making the whole approach both eerie and surreal. After a delay of almost 1 hour, waiting for the sun to rise and the fog to lift, we decided to start the drive anyways, trusting that the very qualified, albeit long convoy, would manage maneuvering almost blind, following the dim lights of the car in front, with patience and skills. Finally, after a snail-paced, and yet exhilarating 1 hour and 25 minutes of driving blindfolded, during a stop top sort out a stuck, visibility started to improve dramatically. Even though we had just passed a rough track that I had marked as the turning point on my previous recce drive, we decided to venture further south, toward E20, enjoying the pleasure of exploring the area. Able to see what laid ahead, after the first timid criss-crossings, the sun burst through the last remnants of fog, bathing with its light and warmth a beautiful area with long, open and pristine cordons. Even though I had initially planned to take just a look around here, we ended up spending almost 1 hour roaming in all directions, simply relishing in the fun of an unstoppable drive. Finally, it was time to turn back up north, to reach the E14 tarmac, from where we would enter Dubai's side of Faqa District. While 4 cars decided to exit, due to time limitations, the rest of the convoy headed into the tall, long dunes south of the Faqa Plateau. The pace, already picked up after the fog had lifted, further increased, as we managed to side-slope and criss-cross our way East, until we reached the tighter dunes and camel farms bordering Faqa Town, indicating our proximity to the exit. A beautiful drive, perfectly executed by all, in spite of the initial adverse conditions, that certainly celebrated in the best possible way the reopening of the border and the possibility of crossing it freely while off-roading. Only 1 tug, 1 digging, and 1 pop-out occurred, while driving almost 89 Km, in 3:47 hours of moving time (4:31 total) at an average moving speed that picked up from the original 12km/h to the final 23km/h (20 km/h total). Great support by @Niki (who managed to keep sight of the lead, and adjust accordingly, through the thick fog), @Wrangeld, who keep the convoy together from the center, and @Alex Raptor, never losing sight of the long convoy, and sweeping all to safety. Thank you @Ale Vallecchi for this Saturday morning exploration drive. Although i had to exit after the first half, due to other commitments, the part i drove with all of you was very engaging and enjoyable. Really missed the remaining part, as we were picking up pace and swooping on bowls as much as we could , just consoling myself - there's always a nect time Yes, the drive to the meeting point was an adventure in itself, with close to zero visibility and my white LED headlights lights making things worse with blinding reflections, had to drive all the way with only my lower fog lights on!! It was my first time within borders of abu dhabi, and was surprised to see AD - Faqaa dirstrict boards and markings on the way home. Thanks @Niki for the second lead, doing your part perfectly in the reduced visibility... @Wrangeld for anchoring the convoy and @Alex Raptorfor the perfect sweep, good to drive with everyone else. Thanks @Tareck for lending your compressor, when mine went bust.. See you all on the next adventure!!

The drive to the meeting point is not one I would like to experience again, but it was well worth it! A fast paced drive with minimal issues and plenty of fun! You were right @Gaurav, it indeed was transmission oil - so dodged a bullet there! It seems a small hose (part of the auxiliary transmission oil cooler) got damaged and the oil was leaked out from there. So I will be back after replacing the hose and refilling the ATF4 oil. See you guys soon 🤩

Thank you @Ale Vallecchi for this drive, I always feel the challenge when I reserve a drive with you. Unfortunately I wasn't able to drive efficiently as my friend who joined me got motion sickness so I tried to limit my speed which got me stuck and had to exit early. Also thanks to @Wrangeld who was driving in front of me which made it easier to follow the best lines of approach he took. Thank you @Niki @Alex Raptor for the support and @Russ for your help

Thank you @Wrangeld for offering to support which allowed myself and a few other to join yesterday... felt great being able to explore that region once again! @Alex Raptor super support throughout! was a great convoy .. again .. minimal refusals/stucks/drama and just a lot of fun and exploration! was nice doing an outside briefing in the fog, got to meet some old and new friends and look forward to the next trip out into this part of the desert!

Reaching the meeting point in the fog was part of the challenge, and the same prevented the convoy to take the full measure of the first portion, but for sure it will be worth going back. FIVE GUYS AT FAYAH This drive was one of the most interesting drive I have had. Soon after we started the drive, we thought fog had faded away. But surprise caught us with a very dense fog as we were moving. As the visibility was low we decided to halt the drive. We had to wait for almost 40 minutes for some visibility. As we had a short convoy, I had shared with the team on the idea to explore an oasis that I had found while mapping the area via Gaia. Fayah area had one of the cleanest area, with fresh tracks. The convoy did not give trouble at any point and we were able to locate the Oasis. We spent some time around the area taking pictures, that is when the real desert convoy of camels approached. So we decided to make way for them and head to do some bowling. It was in the bowls, that we had challenges. While taking one of the big sidee, @Ranjan Das had missed a hump and his vehicle jumped, in the impact of vehicle landing, the roof rack had moved its position. We took time and put back the roofrack in place and decided to head out. On our way to exit, while passing through a dune which had a fence on one side, @GauravSoniwho was the sweep's Pajero had slipped to the fence side as the rest of us had churned the sand while passing. We had to spend around an hour for the recovery, where we tried winching with Ranjan's Wrangler. But the winch was only able to pull till a certain point when the winch and Gaurav's vehicle started over heating. We tried pulling with my little JL, but that to did not help. It was Gaurav's idea to use 2 cars infront and try to pull the Pajero. We placed @Xavier Treasurer's 4.0L Xterra in front, connected a rope to my litte JL. Xavier was in a flat area, I was in a slightly inclined area. Then connected 3 ropes behind my car to Gaurav's pajero and pulled him out. It was a fantastic team effort from @Ranjan Das, @Anoop Nair @Xavier Treasurer & @GauravSoni. Drive Stats: See you all soon !!

Very short story. The business had a financial crisis and I was broke. Was afraid how I will repair the car if it gets broken down inside the desert. Now back to normal and some loose ends to tie up. Will see you on Saturday.

Ciao @PaoloMaraziti thank you for taking the time, that's a super video capturing the fun afternoon yesterday! 👍 Great route from the Lisali camel tracks ending up at the Qudra exit - thanks to @Anish S for planning and leading. We only had very few refusals and each were brilliantly self recovered. No stucks meant no shovels and tugs required. As a result we enjoyed a few well timed breaks but otherwise made good progress meaning we reached our exit point on time just as the sun was setting. @Danish Mohammadand @MUHAMMAD Kashif RAZZAQ had a relaxing drive I suspect !😃Finally thanks to @Zixuan Huang - Charlie for a solid second lead and rerouting where necessary.

Yes very annoying, but not effecting the performance of the car. As for the driver the massive distraction did not help when driving. Car back to the mechanic ...In any case here the pluses of the drive I had the car chip tuned and the observations are The engine is more silent on the highway The Engine revs much more quickly accelerates faster with obvious benefits Gear shifts are snappier which helps on the dune. A couple of times I felt I'd had a refusal previously because of the slow downshifting I was able to climb big red in 1st gear without the car downshifting. (previous week I could not make it half way) In all I do feel the HP improvement I also installed a cold air intake. Not sure if that help, but I can decently see the temperature Gause is visibly lower than befroe Will monitor the consumption now. I installed a larger transmission fluid coolant with a fan. No problem during the drive even after a refusal where I had to use 4Low and rear diff lock Hopefully this is sorted for now I could also see the benefits of the kill switch with the car not trying to manage the wheels and no traction control at all. In all I believe the car is at its best now the driver must improve a lot! I fund the sand very soft at times and I had my refusal always when driving too close to the second lead not leaving me room to gain momentum. I said this last week too so now I definitely need to focus on the distance especially when ridging or climbing. Hi everyone, First of all, thank you to everybody for joining yesterday’s trip. I was amazed by the enthusiasm and the patience that everybody showed during our trip. We started with a froggy morning and from the starting point we went directly to Big Red. Had fun with some really nice climbs even if @Enrico Biscaro had some strange beeps on the car then had to switch the car off and on multiple times. We played all around the big dune until I decided to continue to the next one. The drive was not smooth (two nasty stuk, a poput between the others) but I enjoyed it a lot watching everybody happy. The main issue we had was during the climb on the dune just next to BR, @Damien Ranjit damaged the car. During the impact the front skid plate got deformed and broke the radiator. In the meanwhile Shaaz led the rest of the convoy down to the dune, I pulled the Pathfinder out with @Aisha S support. Assured that everything was fine I reached the convoy. At that time it was really too late to continue with the original plan. We decided, then, to keep playing around Big Red and exit from the same place we went. In 15 minutes @Damien Ranjit assured us that everything was fine. I Wanna thank @Aisha S for the great support (next time it will be harder I promise ), @Shaaz Sha for our super sweep, @Archibald Jurdi for the SL and all of you!
