If you see a nice area that is not too crowded, just save it as a waypoint in your GPS to visit later with friends. Focus on finding something that is not too deep inside the desert (in case you have friends without offroading experience), close to an exit track, and not an area where you would be constantly disturbed by cars zooming around.

I totally agree with Charlie, Toyota's are the last car to overheat, even in peak summers. And in case it does, try to troubleshoot the actual cause of the issue than just strapping coolers based on off-road garage advice. Tranny coolers and fans are really helpful, no doubt but in some cases, they act counter-productive to block a lot of air passage for radiators. So after installing a HUGE tranny cooler you might run cooler A/T oil but the radiator will overheat the car temperature. Bottom line, follow the steps to really nail the issue (when it appears): Fix the stock component if overheats. Add additional fan on existing cooler if it doesn't have one, common issue with many manufacturers. Use a slightly longer or taller tranny cooler and not double the size, as it will block more air passage for the radiator. If A/T light comes in peak summer on cross-tracks or self-recovery for a few seconds and goes away when you start moving, then don't bother much as when air circulation is so less in peak summer this is quite normal and not a flaw. If A/T light comes during the normal off-road driving conditions, then it's a concern and some of the action is needed.

Hi all, Been a few conversations across various threads and on the drives so thought I would write a dedicated post and encourage others to share their photos also. In my personal opinion, the front bumper skirts need to be removed straight after your absolute newbie. While some have got through Newbie levels without issues, myself and others have not! For front bumper cut, I did after some research and understanding that this was the most susceptible area for damage if approaching or coming down at angles other than "straight ahead". I did this ready for Fewbie and it gave me great confidence and removed any damage worry from my mind. Note: to cover the holes, I suggest to go shopping on amazon and search "bumper retainer clips" and take your pick! Thought I would update for future viewers of this post. bashplate: definitely worthwhile and in my opinion needed on prado as you progress. The first time you hit it, you feel relief you got it rather than panic about what damage has been done. bumper: removal of any skirts/extra bumper bits. I got the side of bumper cut, after catching it once or twice. 2014>2017 model has quite low bumper at the sides! This was the cheapest and best mod done as it gave me confidence to pick up the speed and not worry about damage when approaching/departing dunes at at angle! Tyres: just got some AT tyres after fewbie no6! Will report back on these in a few more weeks!

Pre drive important information Dear friends In the second part of this loop drive " the loop II " i choose the mystical desert of lisaili and its outskirts from Murqab east up to the "middle earth" south and south west and back north to Lisaili proper. if you have a close look to the details on the map you can imagine the diversity of this terrain from super technical to the flat track and all what could be in between. if you sign for this drive please its highly recommended the following points to be taken in consideration for the at most safety desired : make sure your vehicle is at its optimum condition with all fluids and lubes been checked for any leaks and topped up. please check you tow recovery points and its integrity. check your spare tyre size and its condition and make sure you have the proper tools needed specific for your spare tyre change. check your offroad gear and that its tied up not loose. please don't forget to come with two fully charged and programmed radios or a car charger available for it. this drive may induce a motion sickness to some individuals prone to that such as children and persons whom are known to experience it . so please make the safest choice for them. this is an afternoon drive that is planned to end at the sunset time , however prepare your self for some delay in case . Thanks for starting this thread @Rob S. You are right, bumper trim is probably the most viable and cost effective solution to improve Prado's approach angle. Worthwhile to mention few options for custom bumpers that i came across during my search but most of those designs were for metal bumpers. Not only are they expensive, they add quite a bit of weight to the nose whereas the idea for dune bashing is to keep the car as light as possible. So from a cost - benefit point, I found this option is more about the looks of the car than actual need on the drive. They also become an issue for RTA passing. The other option is to get a custom fiber bumper. Found a guy in Sharjah who does all types of car bumpers. The benefit i found was that it provides a finished look and had provisions to integrate light bars but the idea of improving the approach angle was the same as what a bumper trim would provide. btw I havent been able to decide on any of the above options for now 😂. My front skirting has survived my drives so far.

Drive Report There’s a reason I give up my free time and volunteer to take a crowd of people I don’t know from Adam out into the desert . Today’s drive was that reason! Give yourselves a massive pat on the back because by goodness did you earn your desert stripes today with a side sloping fiesta in Mahafiz! 👏 We started off gradually and slowly but surely, every single driver, upped their game, time and time again until you were pulling the most audacious side slopes, I think we saw one fishtail the whole day!!! What was the most pleasing aspect for me personally is that you all self recovered brilliantly, and steered down when you had to! @Laura Conesa you started off a bit tentatively, as to be expected on a first Newbie drive, but I think the self recovery really helped your confidence and you didn't look back, Great job. @Murad Hamedgreat drive today, flawless, took everything in your stride and handled your car well, Clearly nor your first time in the sand my friend, Nice driving. @karim hamandiAnother who had a flawless drive, you were getting used to your car's power too.
