first, i would like to thanks @Ale Vallecchi for making this drive happen. i would have to say its one of the most enjoyable Newbie drives i ever been part of. it was mix of most type of terrain, pace and difficulty combined with with a nice weather , amazing desert sand together with wonderful people . every one drove really well it was a pleasure to meet you all ( some of you for the 1st time ) @Klaus Pedersen, @Sajan.S, @Rashid Alseeni, @Ron.P , @rohit kumar, @Misha Puskar, @GeorgeFJ, @Siby I know how you might feel intimidated, ashamed and uncomfortable in some situations like stuck, refusals of certain maneuvers. your heart racing , sweating from everywhere and million thoughts crossing your mind !! this have happened to the best of us . but, what i would like to state that at @Carnity family you dont need to feel any of that as we don't judge you for these situations. we all share the love to Nature , Dessert and off-roading excitement and what makes us even happier is seeing the new members skills and confidence getting better by every drive. My Advice to all the newbie , get to know our car better ( maybe read the user manual ) check how to engage the diff-lock and 4L , check how to turn off Traction control, ABS, maybe a kill-switch is required in some situations etc. in addition to that remember that communication is prime in this sport! practice using the Radio and when you are having a stuck or a refusal announce your car number and the situation you are in and wait for the instruction from the Support or Marshal, and NEVER reverse without getting the clear instruction to do so as many times you might be reversing into a pit or even a cliff without you noticing. @Siby, i am glad that you only had a pop-out when you reversed down the hill ( God forbid ) it could have been much worse. i am sure lesson learned and you will be more in control of your car next time. @GeorgeFJ as @Ale Vallecchi already mentioned, you are always welcomed as long as you are willing to learn and get better every drive. Thank you @Patrick van der Loo for sweeping the convoy and making sure that no one is left behind. @Georges Kazan i will be posting some videos of the drive here i am not sure yours is part of them. anyone who have some pictures you could post them in the drive galley looking forward to see you all soon in the Sand 🍻

Dear @GeorgeFJ, of course you are welcome to sign up for any drive you wish. Carnity's spirit is to train any desert lover, with any car (only 4x4 🤓of course), and not leave anyone behind. Just practice building your own relationships with your car, as if it was your horse to ride and command! You have a very strong ride.

Camel Trophy - Lisaili Drift: Drive Report "Run from what's comfortable. Forget safety. Live where you fear to live" - Rumi One thing perhaps members didn't know when they joined this outing was that I usually like to scale my drives up a notch, based on the convoy's performance. The fact that I made the above quote from Rumi's my own and ran from what could have been a comfortable drive, should be a testament to the convoy's behavior during the first part of the drive. In fact, after a slightly longer briefing, designed to bring the Absolute Newbies up to speed with the required skills and safety elements (and as a reminder to the Newbie members), the first hour or so of the drive went very smoothly, with minimal issues, all quickly solved by the support team of @Simon D and @Patrick van der Loo. Streight crossing of dunes, side sloping, and convoy discipline were excellent, which inspired me to push to convoy to practice ridge riding, and eventually criss-crossing. Both skills were applied at first to very low and humpy dunes, of which Lisaili is well endowed, especially in the area between the pylons and the tight technical stretch heading toward the Solar Tower plant. Clearly, a few refusals and stucks occurred, but nothing that couldn't be used as a learning exercise by the whole convoy. The only moment of apprehension was when a refusal on a ridge very close to the exit was tackled a bit hastily by @Siby, who reversed down the somewhat steep slope at too fast a speed. Surely the mistake was due to the impression the driver had of being deeply stuck (which was not the case), and the lesson learned by the whole convoy was that 1) one exits the car to evaluate the situation, before attempting a self-recovery, and 2) backing down a slope should be done with minimal throttle, and carefully moving perpendicularly, and/or always toward gravity. With this in mind, I congratulate the Absolute Newbies @Misha Puskar, @GeorgeFJ, @Siby for completing an overall well executed first Carnity drive. My only suggestion, in particular to the FJer's (including @Georges Kazan), understandably shy with engine power, would be to familiarize themselves with the car, which is a powerful and relatively light vehicle, capable of sudden accelerations that will be very useful to tackle climbs, exit soft bowls, and sustaining side sloping and ridge riding, provided the right amount of throttle, and the right choice of gears are practiced, to become second nature with your driving style. All drivers, including @Klaus Pedersen, @Sajan.S, @Rashid Alseeni, @Ron.P and @rohit kumar, did great, navigating the total of 50.6 Km driven, in 2:11 hours of moving time, at a 23 Km/h average moving speed (in 4:13 total hours and 12 Km/h overall average speed). well it's now over 48hrs, and I did go to the doctor per @Gaurav & @Srikumar's recommendation. Doc said since no vomitting, no broken ribs, no blurry vision and no pain whatsoever, she declared me fit to drive & work again 🙂 I would rather focus on the positive things and the good lucks, so here they are: alhamdulillah I managed to return home unharmed, thanks to every single one in the convoy, I pray God bless you all for your kindness. thanks to my trip marshal @Srikumar for leading the team during the incident. There were other younger blood he could direct & delegate to, but he chose to unroll his sleeves and in the process hit his head against my rear bumper (luckily it's stock fibre... imagine if it's the Y62 with 4mm steel 😱) it was good luck @Haitham Khattab pushed himself to join the drive eventhough he overslept and started driving at 5:30am. For his presence helped a lot, as we needed an Arabic speaker to translate and bridge the communication with the police. i had a nice recovery driver who shared me his Naan & vegetables lunch in short, eventhough it was an unfortunate incident, I am thankful and happy with the people who surrounded me & helped. Thanks for asking @Tom B @Rob S @ASAD. , not my first rollover with perfect landing on all 4 wheels, so the shocks were subdued a bit 😅, but nevertheless humbles and amazes me how we're given second..eh i mean... fourth chance. My wife reminded to watch the latest Puss in the Boots movie 😂 And this is the finale good news: only Windshield (500dhs second-hand) + Front Right Fender (300dhs second-hand) + Front Right Passenger Door (300dhs second-hand) are badly damaged. According to the Denting Specialist, the roof can be fixed without replacing the whole roof. I'll probably start a thread on the LC 10K bring-to-life restoration project 😄

Hey Carnity, A co-worker/friend of mine has a daughter heading off to university in the next few weeks, and they wanted a real dune bash/desert experience before she leaves. She asked me, but I only have the one passenger seat (rear has been removed). I have another neighbour who I've offroaded with who would normally be up for it, but his engine is undergoing an overhaul. Basically, I'm wondering if anyone lives in/near Al Ain, is up for a bit of dune bashing, and would enjoy some company - bit of dune bashing, some bbq'ing. My friend is more than happy to pay, so maybe even a desert guide if someone knows one, that could work as well. They would need to be picked up here in Al Ain, which is why nearish here is better, and I'll be along as well, with another friend who was interested in joining. @Ale Vallecchi thank you for your advice and calmness following my mistake at the refusal on the ridge. In addition thanks to @Simon Dfor his help recovering my vehicle and pointing out the severity of my mistake. I would also like to thank @Klaus Pedersen for his words of encouragement following the drive as I was feeling terrible at the time. For some reason I’m very reluctant to use sufficient engine power which led me to a number of refusals and getting stuck which is something I need to work on as I have a cautious nature when driving. If you’ll have me, I’d like to join another Newbie drive as soon as I’m back from my work travels.

DRIVE REPORT The area around Faqa is well known, but even though i have been there many times, i still discover new places and areas, and for this reason it's one of my favorite places to go offroading. We met up around 7.30 with most people arriving earlier so they had ample time to deflate, set up the flags, and enjoy the sunrise . Some new faces like @Dorian Zissi @sohinik @Natalia Koryakovtseva and @Ahmad Quadri who joined us for the first time and drove superb for their first drive !! The weather was pleasant and the company / convoy even more so. We had our bit of shoveling, and even tested christened Davie his winch for the perfect occasion. I kept the terrain difficulty rather easy as our convoy was very long, but never felt that someone is holding us back. All of you did amazing this morning. The brilliant support from @Rizwanm2 and @Davie Chase made sure that whenever we hit an issue, it was swiftly and professionally dealt with. @Joseph Sebastian we drove many times together, and i really like your calm and mature approach to offroading and your kills., and i could not have asked for a better second lead. Thank you for that ! At the end of the drive, i had to quickly rush to go and pickup my daughter. Sorry if i failed to greet you all before heading back onto the tarmac. I hope to see you all soon in the sand again !

All the convoys do plan to stop at a common midway point on Saturday evening where we will have a big bonfire. So please bring some wood. Regarding the food, we are all bringing something for ourselves and a bit more to share. Some would be ready to eat and some would have to be cooked at the camping spot.

What are people doing for food? Are we all just taking our own little things, or big communal bbq and flames?

@Gaurav i am a big fan of Michelin for the comfort conditions that they offer for onroad; for offroad, i do not have experience. so i will be waiting for your update over the coming months. i am currently running with Geo - am happy with the drive conditions, up to now. cheers

I finally bought the Michelin LTX Force today and will update the sand review after the Liwa crossing. Below is the key information that I like to share as of now: Tire size: 275/70/R16 Yokohama Geolander - AT: 17.20 Kgs (Half-life used) so 18 Kgs (New). Michelin LTX Force - AT: 19.10 Kgs (New). Michelin XLT - HT: 17 Kgs (New) - Road & Sand friendly but not an AT. I wanted to move away from Geo since G015 didn't live up to the G012 longevity and since all other AT were heavier than Geo so based on that plus based on my previous LTX (now XLT - HT) sand experience, I went with Michelin. They come with 5-year warranty or 70,000 km, so the steep price will be justified eventually.

Trip Report : Convoy 2: It is really amazing to see so many enthusiastic new faces line up together to what was eventually a beautiful morning drive. we started with meet and greet followed with the briefing; highlighting and reiterating the basics of communications, convoy discipline and key aspects of driving on sand. You will get to listen this on every drive no matter what level you drive as this brings the safety at the forefront of any activity. with the convoy in order and flags up with deflated tires and egos, we made our way hoping from one dune to the next with no stuck or refusals for the first 30 minutes. I was raising the difficulty level in sections doing some steep climbs , riding long blunt ridges and patches of technical terrain and convoy responded with minor stucks and refusals which are all part of the learning. the support team got couple of chances to have some workout shoveling a wrangler stuck on crest and pop out of another wrangler. @FARAZ MOHAMMED you did very well as 2nd lead. It is very important to maintain the right distance so as to follow the tracks and maneuver while being prepared to move left or right or stop on track as directed. well done buddy! @Sachith Jagannath was a no Show. hope to see you next time. its advisable to inform on the forum incase you are unable to join the drive as it allows the next waitlisted driver to get in the drive. @Rashid Alseeni excellent driving the heavy weight with ease. u did well. @Juan R @Stan ,@MohamedSherifits important to understand the power of the car and the requirement from the terrain. you guys did very well! @fayez as we discussed during the pop out fixing break, Fishtailing, as fancy as it may look to the outside viewer, is not the best of moves you want your car to be in. You need to practice pedal control along with steering control to ensure that the tracks don't get churned up to much and that you have control over your cars moving direction. @Nadeem Ansari we all have had that one drive during our newbie levels where things don't happen as we expect them to be. There drives are the most important ones to learn about your car dynamics and how much gas is too much or too little. i liked your determination and willingness to learn.. well done! @Ron.P i am sure you enjoyed the drive as i had no recollection of your voice on the radio. @Nathan when driving in a convoy, always believe in the fact that every car can make it over the dunes since the every car ahead of you made it through. Trust yourself that you can do it too. you may have to take a little bit right or left of the track depending on how long and heavy is your car, and this is precisely why we drive every week to develop the understanding. on a side note have you fixed the issue with air bags on your car? Thank you @Gaurav and @skumar83 for you views. Both of you have got it right. I have once before seen similar flip in Faqa area with a fellow offroader. The main culprit is the Jeep's Center of gravity is very high due to the lift and no spacers to even out the lift. Sometimes people buy fully modded Jeeps but with no experience in handling such a ride. The more experienced people normally judge the person by this highly modded vehicle and accept people for drives beyond their capacity. Judging by the speed and the way he approached the ridge cutting it is evident that he does not have such experience. This further endorses the grading structure we have introduced for people to better understand the importance of joining their level drives.

Very valued points already mentioned, here is my take on such unique flip "ON THE CREST" that I have never seen before. His speed was way too fast to do the criss-cross on that ridge. Seems like experienced but a new driver with this much-lifted (8-10 inch) vehicle that is more prone to flips, or he may be new to sand entirely to judge the way how this tall ride react to such situations. He turned little early and sharply on the right side, instead, he should have gone a straight little bit, ride the ridge and gently steer right to do the transition from where earlier tracks have been shown. Even with the slightest lift before the flip, if he could have steer left immediately he could have avoided the flip and got stuck on the crest, with this much-lifted vehicle he could have self-recovered very easily. So getting stuck or refusal is way better than flip or a roll. While the flip was happening (00:03 - 00:06), he has left the gas and could have avoided this flip to a certain degree if he kept on flooring the pedal. He has given gas after the flip (00:06 - 00:08), pretty much useless in that angle.

where do I even start?!! He wasn't wearing the seat belt I think he is on two-wheel drive When he finally made it to the top he got confident and tried to do a side pass but he did not take into account the high center of gravity of his car. As he was going down he was too fast and the approach angle was terrible

Indeed a stupid angle of recovery, combined with the guy watching from a few meters distance that could have gotten the strap in his face....

SUPERB observation @skumar83, this is exactly I feel that 75% cause of flip was 2WD and 25% being too fast for crossing the crest, and why he was fast is because of 2WD or else he will get stuck. @Rahimdad please reveal the truth now if we are right or not?
