  2. TRIP REPORT Coming back to fossil rock after a year or more cleared all doubts that this grid area is totally fenced with openings from Khetem, mahafez mosque side and the southern part of Faye opposite the tahady motorcycle rental. In addition the whole western half of the grid has been transformed into a jungle leaving the eastern part and Faye the sandy terrain that we know . Fossil rock ๐Ÿชจ itself from last year is internally fenced and becoming almost green , what a displaying beautiful portray . It was kinda challenging today from the start . At the beginning with google map crazy glitching . However we were all set on time and moved looking forward to what comes next. It wasnโ€™t for a long till @premindra rajaram got stuck in super soft sand . But the problem was when the coolant temperature raised all of a sudden and we saw the Vaporising steam from the coolant side as if a volcano was in imminent eruption ๐Ÿซข. This happened while tugging was taking place . Immediately brought him down from the inclined position to the flat . Car off and after a while carefully checked the coolant which was empty totally . Refilled and temperature of the silver Xterra adjusted back but still bit higher . The closest and fastest exit was to Maliha road at Khetem via the pylon track were we existed him safely ( he msged me later that he was already in Garag to check it out and I called him before I started typing this report that all good as it lookโ€™s apparently ) . we moved again to make it up for the remaining two hours left from khetem and oh yeah , sphinx was waiting where we had our first proper coffe break after that we climbed all the way to feya from behind where we lined up at its slip side where every one contributed nicely to form a spaghetti leaving their track marks ๐Ÿ˜„ spending the last hour in back and forth around that area which was super fulfilling to the content to hour hearts till time was calling for exit . @Jona perfect second lead pleasure meeting you for the first time . @premindra rajaram itโ€™s always better safe than sorry and your exit was a wise decision . Hope we meet next time inshallah. But this time we will start from where we exited you and not from mahafez๐Ÿคฃ @Ahmad Nerat more than you drove flawlessly today , your welling to help and assist was remarkable and really appreciated . Thank you a lot my friend ๐Ÿ™ @Bashar Beasha you did great today keep it up dear well done ๐Ÿ‘ @munkybizness really happy to see you after quite a while . Your anchoring middle position as I knew you kept the convoy connected . Thanks my friend ๐Ÿ‘ The wrangler boys @Gary F and @Bjoern barely I heard you on the radio which says it all ๐Ÿ‘ @Felix Obst thanks for keeping an eye on all of us from the tail of the convoy very well done . Hope the boys enjoyed it today ๐Ÿ˜‰ Itโ€™s a day I liked and enjoyed driving with all of you guys and hope to see you all next time . take care Seidam

  18. Day 8 - Tabuk - Tayma via The Red Sea at Al Humidah (673 Km) Excited and energized by the exhilarating off roading of the day, over dinner we started toying with the idea of extending the trip to the ultimate arrival point: a small village on the Red Sea, just a few kilometers south of the Jordanian border. This would materialize a true "coast to coast", from the shores of the Arabian Gulf to the beaches of the Gulf of Aqaba. Unplanned, thus even more satisfying. It would take a detour of around 150 Km round trip, on Road 394, after a couple more hours of off-roading needed to reach the tarmac from our campsite, inside the Tabuk red sands. After waking up at the entrance of the canyon where we slept, we took a short trip to explore its depths. The gorge got tighter and tighter, with the red walls closing in above our head. About halfway through its length a bottleneck blocked the passage of the car, but a few steps beyond the gap the tunnel fanned out, ending up in a small oasis, full of trees and flowers, reachable by car from an entrance on the opposite side. After less than an hour enjoying the coolness of this miniature paradise, we finally decided to head to the coast. Off we went, to the Red Sea. A long climb took us to the top of the plateau on which, further to the south, one of the Neom project's landmarks will soon be developed (Trojena, on the slopes of Jabel al Lawz). From there a gentle descent took us to the rim of the mountainous area, and as soon as the road begun to descend more steeply, it revealed, firstly through the haze, then clearer and clearer the blue stripe of the waters of the Gulf of Aqaba, and the dark cliffs of the Sinai Peninsula, just a few kilometers beyond. At the end of the road laid the small village of Al Humidah: going right we would reach the Jordan border (just 38 Km away), while going left we would follow the coast, all the way to the southern tip of the gulf. Left we went, to reach a rocky and sandy beach, where we enjoyed a quick lunch, feet in the water. The stop was more symbolic than anything else, but it really gave us a sense of accomplishment. Going back home would entail driving a direct distance of 2,485 kilometers. With this daunting task in mind, we started to head back to the initially intended rest area for the night, in the town of Tayma, which we would reach just after dusk. As memories of this so far fantastic trip started to flood back, we happily turned around, heading for the center of the Arab peninsula, and to our final destination, back home.

  27. Sorry to overpost here, but it's an exciting topic. Just sharing my setup as well as Benjamin requested in the initial post. I use an old full-size suitcase and 2 tie down ratchet straps. I found the suitcase big enough to fit all my gear, and the soft material of the fabric suitcase allows for tight tightening down without having to worry about cracking plastic suitcases or boxes. Also, if I am going for car wash and they need to vaccum the sand out, I can just take out the suitcase without having to unload a whole range of individual gear items one by one. Similarly, if I need the cargo space (maybe buying something at IKEA I can just take out the suitcase and wheel it to my apartment - easy and no hassle. All the gear comes out in one pop. During the drives I keep the kinetic rope with shackles attached and the shovel strapped to the top of the suitcase, so I can access these commonly-used items without having to unstrap everything and open the suitcase. I found the suitcase to be super convenient.
