  1. @Wrangeld, with the video footage you might as well keep @Melenany in second lead this time.😄 your only other option is to have a sweep and second sweep between @Melenany and @Shehab Alawadhi just like our lead and second lead. #iamnotJealous.

  4. First of all, please allow me to seize the chance to thank you for this fascinating trip which we all enjoyed it, awesome weather, amazing group and most importantly a professional Marshal with the necessary qualities of experience, patience, techniques , encouragement at all times to make your trip special, and of course all of you know that I mean @Rahimdad whom I thank Personally for the compliment he spoke about how I managed my car in situations of refusals, Really, it is a testimony that I am proud of, and I do not deny that what I achieved in terms of driving on the sand is because I joined Carnity Club which provided me with a lot of practical experiences, and I do not forget the help and support of @marks in my first trips, but what I have reached currently goes to my friend @Rahimdad as you insisted on choosing the area on the basis of being the leader on that day for my comfort driving with you and my confidence that I will gain experience or even my car possibilities through the challenges we were face, Also thank you very much to your assistances , specially to @Islam Solimanwho accompanied us on that trip as sweeper , in-fact I had a great pleasure to meet new colleagues from Carnity Club. I wish success to all, and see you soon Inshallah

  7. From Middle Earth....to the Other Side - Extended Drive's Report What better excuse than an Ironmen Triathlon, jamming the roads around Al Qudra and Bab al Shams, to keep driving on pristine sand, beyond our initial goal, until the sand hit the tarmac at Dubai's border with Al Ain. This is how a planned 3 hour drive became a monster 4-plus hour ride, and the targeted 60 something Km became almost 95 km. A timely start saw the convoy enter the "Middle Earth" just before 7AM. The quality of the drivers, including a couple of fearless first-time Fewbie Plus members, allowed everybody to launch themselves into a sustained series of criss-crossing exercises, and reach the sabkha north of Little Sweihan in no time. After sighting a huge herd of Oryx leaving their feeding pen, we tackled the canyons and bowls of this exciting location, owing its nickname to the similarity of its high dunes and sharp crests, with the better known Abu Dhabi's playground. That's when the dilemma of heading back to a traffic-jammed Qudra exit point, or continuing to drive east on pristine long range dunes was easily solved by unanimous decision: on to Faqa it was. This is a drive which we normally do in the opposite direction: from Faqa in the direction of Solar Park. Driving it in reverse, requires, at times, to cross dunes from the slip-face, adding an element of difficulty to the track. On top of that, I thought it would be interesting to visit the eastern-most part of Faqa, as close as possible to E44 (the Dubai-Al Ain border). This area is what I call the "Other Side" of Faqa: tall, long range dunes, with lots of ridges to be ridden, and sharp, steep drops between each dune, with beautiful trees in between each one. As mentioned, the drive lasted 4:35 hours, covered 94.4 Km, averaged 21 Km/hour (and a very fast 29 Km/hour of average moving speed). Well done to all drivers: @Javier Lucero, @Nacho and @Rob Harperdebuting at Fewbie Plus level, @Thomas Varghese, @varunmehndiratta, @Niki Patel, @Yusuf Esaf and @Jeandre Bezuidenhoutconsolidating their off-roading skills. Special thanks to @Rizwanm2 for a precise Second Lead, @MUHAMMAD Kashif RAZZAQ for supporting the convoy from the center position, and @Mehmet Volga for watching over the safety of all members from the sweep position. Looking forward to seeing you soon in the sand, I wish you all a great week.

  10. Hi @Melenany, the drive will open with all the others at 7pm. No question that an excellent sweep will be needed so your chances are quite good! I will keep a look out for your sign up. Of course, you'll need to fight with @Shehab Alawadhi for that right as he was forced to play second lead last time - and as you both know there is massive demand to be a sweep on one of my drives 😁🤣 We did a similar routing to this drive 2 weeks ago. A word of warning, all the fun comes after the belt of technical dunes at the start of the drive ... so you'll need your A game from the start of this drive so we can cover the ground we want to. Once past this technical band - the challenges are fantastic, fun and exciting. It's a great area in which to drive and one where there are not too many cross tracks. Come and make the most of it.

  14. Hi all, Though initially a little sad to see, i have now considered this a badge of honor and maybe my first war-wound from offroading. The bonnet on my car came out of the weekend drive with 2 small stone chips that removed the black paint. I also have a tiny crack on the plastic bumper (less of a concern). My ask for advice centers on - Do I need to get the stone damage that chipped away the paint repaired? (i suspect that's an easy YES) Does it need to be done asap? (I park the car indoors, its not the daily driver) DO you recommend just doing a DIY/Home touch up vs taking it anywhere special. I am not concerned by the visuals (I bought the car to offroad so am proud this happened on the sabkhas and not the malls ) - its more to ensure i do not risk greater damage over time from a tiny chip. Thanks in advance! Car: Toyota FJ Cruiser (Black)

  18. Drive Report Sharjah’s bowls never ever disappoint! But to take maximum advantage requires a strong convoy, and today’s Carnity convoy was most definitely up to the challenge. We started off cautiously as the wind swept across the dunes, playing tricks with the eyes and causing illusions. It was difficult for me to see where the ridge ended and fresh air began , this only added to the excitement factor for me and the guys at the front of the convoy. I have never seen these bowls look so fresh, there were literally no tracks, it was like we were pioneers venturing into untouched lands. Where’s a flag when you need one (Copyright Eddy Izzard….Do you have a flag?) It didn’t take us long to leave our mark as we raced up the first mighty dune, we had some refusals as drivers got used to the conditions but nothing major. We continued to plot our path, sweeping up and down in and around with the entire convoy in sync. And then we did it again, and again, and again and again. We flew around the smaller dunes as we made our way to yet another bowl. Suddenly we had company as the tourists made their way to the tops of the dunes to catch the setting sun. This did not deter us from our mission, everyone gave signal and we cautiously made our way around the aliens playing in our patch (How very dare they! 😉) By now the convoy was really motoring , at the beginning of the afternoon we had our fair share of refusals and the ropes were brought out twice, but these were just learning opportunities for the convoy. Confident that the drivers were well prepared I sounded the clarion call! YALLA!!!! And the pace was raised a nought or 10. We flew around Area 53 with it’s rabbit warren of bowls , not once but twice. I nearly went in again but it was the witching hour, and sometimes its best to end things when everyone has accomplished the goal. Many many thanks to my support team today @GauravSoni and @Islam Soliman. @GauravSoniyou were excellent as my second lead, you followed my instructions perfectly in some very difficult situations. Thank you for that. @Islam Soliman swept up everything at the back and helped with all the refusals when it was needed. It makes such a huge difference to the lead knowing you have support like that. Thank you. Special recognition goes to @Veedooshee on her first intermediate drive, it was a bit sticky for you at the start but by goodness you stepped up to the plate towards the end of the drive. Well done! @Shaz Shah had a very good drive, your only issue was when you slowed down at that critical moment. @Tero Vallas you drove very well, likewise @Archibald Jurdi in that fabulous jeep of yours. Great drives! @Hisham Masaad also had a great drive. I know you said the wind was clearing the tracks at the start of the day which made it extra difficult at the back. @Jack Thomas well done for getting that big truck of yours up and around those dunes. Once again, thank you to all of you for listening to instructions and following my lead perfectly making for a great drive! Until our next adventure! 😊

  24. @Niki Patel if not concerned about the aesthetics, I'd say say just sand it down a bit your self and touch it up with a brush and let it dry completely. Once done, sand it with 2000 grit sand paper and finish it with a polish/wax. Alternately, get a couple of cans of plastidip from ace for 40 AED each and spray the entire hood with 4 good layers. It is a rubber paint and will easily last for 2 years and when you don't want it any more, just peel it off. There are some good tutorials on how to do DIY plastidip on YouTube.

  33. Update: on yesterday’s drive with @Foxtrot Oscar in Sharjah , I got to test the switch. I was crested in a difficult position on the side slope. I switched to 4LLC With R/D locked and tried steering left right to wiggle out. However the wheels kept spinning. Then I switched to engage traction while keeping the rpm constant at less than 2k. Self recovery Within a minute. the car got out of the stuck and coasted down the slope. @Frederic thanks for making us aware of this solution!

Have to say that at times it was very challenging for me and my LR3 today. Frankly, I was nervous on quite a few occasions. I know I am a better desert driver today because of the technical details we attempted. I have soooo much more to learn. Have a great week!

  35. I think it's indeed wise to repair it, and while not urgent, i think you can probably check with Toyota if they sell these 'touch-up' pens in the exact same colour of your car.

  36. @Niki Patel you've seen my vehicle and I'm not bothered if RTA passes my vehicle every year. Its my off-road toy and I keep it in good shape on the inside, the outside shows all the battle scars and everything gets touched up once a year while passing. @Brette on the other hand is very particular, or atleast used to be to keep a good shine on all his vehicles and could be more helpful. @Gaurav bhai I have high regards for to keep his 20+ year old car looking like it just stepped out from the showroom floor. I think important would be your concern in long term basis if its going to have any adverse effect. Don't want to see a nice FJC suffer in long run.
