  2. the drive will become history as twenty-popout'th February drive... Has anyone figured out the road closure reason? I saw how many of you guys tried to tackle out the way across the wet puddle when entering Qudra area - why not going across it? I did ... both ways. The 12-year old in me was very happy. The car wash guys were not pleased... Seemingly easy and wet sand turned out extremely deceiving! I was surprised by the number of technical passes and seeing from the back of the convoy how difficult it was for many folks to cross gave me a new levels of respect to qudra desert. 1h 25 minutes of driving + 2 hours 35 minutes doing recoveries and addressing popouts (3!), including my virgin one... I managed to scoop half a bucket of sand from it when working on the tire on my way back. @Abhilash Kottakkal, I think you won the tightest dune pass attempt with this drop hope your bumper is OK! And these ballerina moves: And my first popout... Looking forward to some more drives out there during wet season! Thank you @Islam Soliman for rapid recovery attempts and, boy - this car jack air bag was something else!

  3. @Sreenath G@Fares Adel@ozgu@Menon@Talal H@Srilakshman Karthikeyan@Hani Howeedy@Juzer Talib@Premjit Vappala@Jerry Han@Haneef Thayyil@Richard Franks Thank you all for joining last Saturday. My aim was to explore this area in a slight different way. As the sand was hard it allowed us to move a bit further into unknown terrain and you guys rocked ! Hardly any hiccups and that meant we could cover some good distance and enjoy the scenery. We did some side-sloping as well but at times the hard sand really felt slippery,so we needed to be extra cautious. Whoever is interested in the promotion to Fewbie level, after having completed 5 Newbie drives, can apply here: REQUEST YOUR PROMOTION Hope to see you all soon again in the sands !

  4. Definitely there will be a few members camping beforehand. With potential fog in the morning it would make sense doing so. Will post a location for a quiet camping spot soon.

  6. This is the first time I have joined your drive @Davie Chase and it was an absolute blast, right from the briefing to the beautiful route that you took. Loved every bit of it. Everyone drove amazingly well especially in the middle session where the whole convoy was driving in a fluid motion. Look forward more such adventures.

  12. @Islam Soliman @Imteeaz thank you very much for the drive and all the help with my popout and that stuck which look liked some one dropped me from air. That was split second distraction I think I was looking at where the other car was going and kind of lost where I am going and hit the bottom of dune straight, i will say i was , I don't know, technical need much more focus. I tend to avoid it but I rsvp as you said in the description to get that fear out of getting stuck in tight situations. And from the many stucks you guys manged I really learned a lot.. thank you very much. Hope all had fun and that gazelle finds home....

  14. Dear Desert Wanderers @rroker, @dhurisam, @EbrahimZAF, @Benjamin, @Wilfredo Perez, @karim hamandi and @Srikumar thank you all for showing up on time and eager to learn. I hope you all enjoyed the drive as much as I did, you all drove amazingly well through the cross tracked terrain of Tawi Nizwa. The driving skills were evident as we had zero pop outs, zero stucks and only a handful of refusals, so weel done to you all. @karim hamandi thank you for being the second lead, you did an excellent job of keeping me informed of convoy gaps, as well as keeping an adequate distance from me to ensure you could react to my instructions which you followed to the letter. Great job mate. @rroker and @dhurisam you guys drove fantastically well given it was your first convoy drive. it will get easier as you gain confidence and sharpen your skills and knowledge. @EbrahimZAF and @Wilfredo Perez you both drove extremely well and kept the rear of the convoy moving nicely. I hope you had fun at the back and look forward to seeing you again soon. @Benjamin Thanks for the support and control in the middle, as always a pleasure to have you on my drives bring a sense of calm and knowledge that only you can. great job as always and thanks again. @Srikumar was a pleasure to have you along for the drive, having you at the back of the convoy and supporting the drive made for a relaxed drive at the front for me. thanks again and look forward to many more drives together. 25. @PAJERO petelczyc luke, @Rafey Hashmi, @Batuhan Kulac, @Juan R, @Hugo, @george charbel, @Bravoecho , @Stumpy and @Varun Mehndiratta Thank you all for joining this Sunday Morning drive. It was a quick drive - in speed and in time. We could have done perhaps half hour more, but it would have been more of the same so ended it sooner than anticipated. But we enjoyed everything that was on offer to us. I was slightly amused on the fact that we were not the only ones at the starting point, as I did not expect anyone else to be present at the starting point. We did reach the tall dunes at the Faqa'a sooner than ever. Having done that seemed to me that we reached there a bit early robbing us of the anticipation and the gratification that comes with the effort that goes into achieving something. The area looked a bit used up and a lot tracks, but we found our own in certain cases. The mid-lands were fast long-range dunes, and the end at Little Sweihan was a bit bumpy at places. We could have spent a bit more there but, hey there is always a next time. I was driving at in the low 40s in most parts; but could have done faster. I always love to drive fast - taking smooth lines and today we were presented with the best terrain to drive as such. Gaia GPS under reports the stoppage time. All our stoppages were only because of breaks and none because of refusals, at least I did not. PS: This is perhaps the first time that I noticed there were no dropouts from the sign up on last Monday. Bravo!

  32. Hi all, I'm trying to list the right things to do after a drive in the sand in order to maintain the car. More experienced driver what would you add ? What I have so far: Inflate the tires Turn all electronics back on Put back all fuses that were removed for the drive Clean the air filter

  33. Nice thread @edouard and ill try to add few points Check both the number plates are intact and not fallen off or bent inside after the impact. If it's lost, report to the Police immediately and get it replaced. Check the coolant level (visually) in the expansion bottle if its well within the Min/Max range. If it's low in expansion bottle or coolant reservoir tank, then top up at any nearest fuel station. DO NOT OPEN the radiator cap, when hot, it will gush out all coolant like a hot fountain and burn, just top up in the expansion bottle and check the radiator level again next day when the car is cold. Check inside the front grill before the radiator if any shrubs, plant or plastic stuck in front, that can block the air circulation and overheat the car. Check inside the engine bay and under the car from wheel arc with a strong flashlight to spot any noticeable leaks, broken hose, pipe etc. A leak may be very small if you spot any wet hose or pipe, worth diagnosing and getting it fixed as soon as possible. While driving back on road immediately after offroad drive, start slowly to hear any unusual noise, vibration etc and then gradually hit the highway speed. Also while doing this music should be off so you can actually pay attention to any unusual hissing/noise. This means to reach to 120 (highway speed) in 5 minutes and not in 10 seconds so you can drive and notice in different speed, as many time some intermittent noise or vibration comes at a very specific speed only. If you venture in water crossing or mud terrain, important to get the car underbody cleaned asap.
