  11. Thanks a lot to all the carnity experts for yesterday's drive. It was an amazing experience and I have discovered that a car can do so much more. I love to drive though I have zero knowledge of cars. Now, I seem to have found what I have been looking for... adventure and amazing people to share it with. I was quite unsure when I came yesterday but I too seem to have been bitten by the sand bug! Time will tell! Looking forward to many more exciting drives! Special thanks to @Vanessa8580 for inviting me on this drive and to @Gaurav's wife for the wonderful idea of this women's day drive.

  14. 150K for the wrangler must be end or close to the end of its time around 200 or 250K, where it will require constant maintenance. Rem, it's US manufacture and not Japanese. Ideally, buy the lowest km driven possible even if it is 5-10% expensive, so you will have much less trouble and have a more usable life to enjoy. Always buy a used car that has a full-service history shown to you in either invoices or a stamped booklet. A slight delay in service interval is acceptable, but if some long gaps are there, look for another vehicle. Have patience while buying, so that you can filter lemon and scammers with phone calls. Only go to viewing for the car that has sent you the service record over WhatsApp. This one approach will filter over 70% of cars instantly. Buying from the owner will be slightly cheaper than the dealer, but again search for both as many dealers scout diamond and price it slightly higher, which will save your time and future trauma for a little extra cost. I once bought a 6-year-old car with 67k on the clock with FSH from a used car dealer with a 10% extra premium. For inspection RTA comprehensive check is not bad (and not great either), but if you know some garages, ask them to inspect, they might do a better job. Last but not least, buy stock condition Wrangler and not modified, not even slightly modified, as that will give you a LONGER usable lifespan for off-roading.

  21. They say practice makes perfect, and as we keep driving more or less same tracks, we keep doing it better and better. The morning was an indication of coming of early summer this year. It was about 22 degrees. @JeromeFJ had his convoy near the track and I moved a bit ahead. @JeromeFJ came to greet me and we exchanged best wishes. It was his drive that I had ever come here for the first time. I even have a video of that drive on my YouTube channel. By 7:07 in the morning we started to move. Short convoy so there we kind of ordered the cars based on their length and every one of them had a role to play. Within 15 min we were at Ghafteen Bowl. This was the most satisfactory entry and exit out of the bowl. Last two times we had come from the west into the bowl this time we came down the north / north-east side. and instead of exiting from the west as we did last two times, we exited to south climbing steep dunes directly. After traversing through the tall dunes overlooking the vast sabkha we went north once again to visit what was marked as one of the first two play areas in my map. We continued this zig-zag pattern of track till we reached the Old Lady Dune. There were some technical patches, some tall dunes and some mid-sized dunes. We cross them all and we did cross them fast. I was keeping up with the track as much as possible (the black line) but towards the end when I saw Old Lady dune, i moved there directly instead of going a bit south to catch up with the desert track that crosses from Nagra Hill to Old Lady Dune (i did that last time - see the pink track). We had fresh clean desert all to ourselves to make our own tracks. and the drive was almost without any stoppages, and it was possible only because we had a superb team. @Cha, @Anoop Nair and @Stumpy are all excellent drivers and above par, so they made it look easy, a bit too easy if you ask me. Thank you all once again for your participation, till we meet again very soon.

  26. Dear Desert Wanders @frederic demolder, @Ale Vallecchi, @GauravSoni, @Ishak, @Frans M and @Robk, firstly thank you all for being on time this morning and being ready to go at the start time. The drive was amazing, and you guys all drove exceptionally well, so well in fact that we had zero stucks and only a handful of refusals, so well done to each and everyone of you. The drive pretty much had everything in it, with some half decent climbs, some cross overs and some ridge riding. we did encounter a little shrubbery along the way but for the most part we had some virgin sand to play on. @Ishak great S/L, good distance, attentive and followed my instructions well, you were able to react when needed so great job in smoothing out the lines for me, well done. @frederic demolder, amazing drive given it was your first Fb+ i hope you enjoyed it and your father also enjoyed the drive. Just be mindful of lines and getting fully onto ridges before crossing. @Frans M you drove extremely well, also be mindful of getting on the ridge and keeping both wheels either side, remember to wiggle the steering (not violent turns just gentle wiggling), this helps to keep you on the ridge as it moves the sand away from the front tires, just be mindful to be smooth. @Robk great drive, we chatted about fish tailing at the inflation point, just remember you have a longer wheel base and the back is really light compared to the front on the gladiator, so really important to keep a high line and be super smooth with the throttle and steering. @GauravSoni, great to have you along my friend, i think that is the first one since you support one of my 6 new leader drives, always a pleasure to have you in the convoy, thanks for all the tips you gave the guys as we were meandering through the dunes, invaluable lessons form a guru. @Ale Vallecchi Thanks so much for joining, having you at the back made the lead so much easier as i did not have to worry too much what was going on behind me, great advise to the team as we travelled through Nahil and Sweihan. thanks again really appreciated. Hope you get the suspension set up to make the ride feel more secure. Added some pics to the gallery and drive stats below Check out Fb+ 17 mar 24 Nahil on Relive! https://www.relive.cc/view/vKv2nXEep4v Have a great rest of your weekend and see you all again real soon in the sand

  28. @Gurcharan Mehta, I think it's time to change your avatar Following the 500hp monster up the hill isn't easy in an under-powered and beat-up pajero, but I believe I did achieve something last night and managed to keep up just right (often had to give @Gurcharan Mehta a lot of space before speeding up as his great car does not need any runway, unlike mine - that's why @Cristian asked me why I'm not moving - I just needed much more space to speed up before the climb). And I believe we did that 2000 m, didn't we @Ale Vallecchi ? Some of the ridges were bumpy but fun nonetheless. @Sunil Mathew on that photo looks almost as if trying to take off: After visiting badayer and lisali desert so many times, I am pleased to see there are so many tall dunes here, and you don't really need to drive all the way to Abu Dhabi to have a decent view: I hope you guys enjoyed the ride as much as I did! Thank you all and see you next time!

  29. Dear Desert Wanderers, @Pajy McPajface - luke, @Nizar Shawwa, @Julien Recan, @Mark B, @Aser, @Arravind, and @Gary F firstly thank you all for showing up on time, this meant we were able to get away and finish the drive on time. not sure what i can add to the wonderful drive report that @Pajy McPajface - luke has shared with us. Except to say that you all drove exceptionally well. The sand was still fairly hard and the top of the dunes had been flattened off and compacted by the rains of last week, but this should take nothing away from how you all drove, especially given that this was a first night drive for some of you. We only had two refusals and one stuck. the one stuck i think will be debated by @Mark B and @Gary F as to whether or not this was an intentional cresting. given that @Gary F did promise to make @Mark B work for his supper in the previous break . Either way it was handled superbly well by @Mark B @Pajy McPajface - luke you were brilliant as always in the S/L position correcting and smoothing my lines and stopping when instructed. always a pleasure to have you in the convoy watching my back. @Gary F great job as sweep mate gives me piece of mind to know i have someone of your experience and knowledge at the back keeping us all safe. @Mark B fantastic job in your first role as CF, you did not have a lot to do but what you did do was handled professionally and with applied knowledge and skill. well don on your first drive as a support team member. Thanks again one and all and i hope to see you all in Fayah next week for another one :) Have a great rest of your weekend

  30. Hello All, hope you are all doing well and ready for your first sand experience on 16 March, Sat. While I'm equally thrilled to host the first Ladies-only Absolute Newbie drive and took some time to get you all personalized advice based on the vehicle you drive. Wrangler owner: @sophiedana @Emma @Iqra Raheel @Bindi @Gráinne @Juanita @Alina Malakaeva Start the car, move in neutral, and hold the brake. Practice how to put the car in 4WD modes - Auto, Part-time and Low. When 4WD light blinking = engaging, solid = engaged it might take a few seconds to get engaged. If it doesn't, try 2H and back to 4H again or drive the car a couple of meters forward or backward to wake up the 4WD system. Press the traction switch for 5 or 7 seconds until you see ESC OFF. if you don't see ESSC OFF its fine that means your car has a single-press traction disable switch which only lights up one orange light in the dashboard. Xterra owner: @Jaswanthi and @Giovana Start the car, move in neutral, and hold the brake. Practice how to put the car in 4WD modes - 4H and 4LO. Please feel free to ask any question here, if you experience anything different or unusual with your car 4WD system and traction control disabling. These two things are a must for all off-roaders and you should know this very well. If the above Google images don't match 100%, google your exact model year model to get familiar with, please. Looking forward to seeing you all soon.

  31. Taking inspiration from @Stumpy Paj I decided to go ahead with installing onboard air via arb single compressor. I decided to mount inside the space where the spare wheel goes, and run the air outlet to the side where I have a hard mount for the insta360 camera. Very simple job once you have drilled the mounting holes in the wheel mount. Terminated to ground on the factory point inside the rear space, and extended hot power to battery with inline switch at battery. Extended the pressure sensor and isolation switch up into the auxbeam gangpanel controller recommended by @Frederic. Super happy with the result. Here are some pics.

  32. When using your vehicle in the desert, certain electronic aids like Active Stability Control (ASC) or ABS need to be disabled, as the soft and slippery sand will make the traction aids kick in and you won't be able to spin the wheels, which is something that is unavoidable when driving in the sand. Below i will describe the easiest two methods to disable your ABS and Stability Control (ASC) at the same time. You can choose either method 1 or method 2 as per your own preference. Method 3 describes the installation of a kill switch, which will require some work as seen in the video. Method 1: Removing the ABS relay 1) Switch off the engine and open the hood. 2) Locate the relay box and open it. 3) Locate the ABS relay on the upper right hand. Remove it by pulling it out. 4) Close the cover and hood, and switch on your engine. You will have no specific alarms on the dashboard but they will start to flicker after a while (ABS light, ASC light, etc...) and eventually they will stay on which indicates they are completely disabled. Method 2: Unplugging the ABS connector This method obtains the same result, but faster. After unplugging you will have immediately disabled ABS and ASC, hence you will have no restrictions. After your drive, there could be some sand inside the connector, so carefully remove it with some compressed air or a small brush. After your offroad drive, you can open the hood, plug the relay or connector back in, and restart your car. The ABS and ATC dashboard lights will be off again. Method 3: Installing a Kill Switch If you are handy, you can do this yourselves by following below steps. If you are in doubt, get it done by a professional workshop. The most advanced method includes the installation of a special "double functionality" kill switch. These can be bought online but are rather expensive. See functionality below:
