    What happen @Taimur Khan?

@Abdul Basit Khan. Coolant leak from somewhere , car overheating. Would know what after the garage checks it out. Being Sunday the garage was closed.

Thanks very much @Srikumar and @Vanessa8580 for the very enjoyable drive, loads of guidance and patience for herding us newbies. Thanks also @Suresh K for helping out frequently as sweep, without all three of you a convoy this size would have been difficult to manage. Unfortunately could not help much with stucks etc as they were happening mostly towards the front of the convoy, else I am always keen to hone my shoveling skills 😄

@Taimur Khan was good to make your acquaintance and glad to hear you made it home OK. Hope the radiator repair is reasonably minor and will see you back on the sand in a short time. Some additional maintenance is unavoidable with this hobby as I have also been finding out (!) but all worth it.

Thanks also to the other fellow off roaders for your company and team spirit, and look forward to more of the same. Some pics from the ride..

@Joseph Sebastian..it was nice meeting you on the drive. The car is back to being dune-worthy after radiator repairs. Hopefully see you on another drive soon.

  2. Thank you everyone. It was great drive until my radiator had the issues.  Thank you   @Srikumar and @Vanessa8580 for all your support and guidance. Special thanks to @Vanessa8580for towing me out to the road . Also to all other colleagues on the drive for their support and patience 🙏. We got the recovery truck in an hour and and had a cosy ride in it's cabin 😁.until the garage and were home by 15:00 Hrs. Long day but a great learning experience. Take care and see you all in the sand again In Sha Allah. (Will take the liberty of posting about the nature of the damage once it's diagnosed)

That's pic is Sri Kumar silhouetted on top of the dune.

  3. Hi Fellow members , Been in the UAE since 1993 and always wanted to enjoy driving in the desert, finally took the plunge,Took a desert driving course a couple of years ago but did not immediately pursue dune driving though I did a lot of offroading on dirt tracks ( some dangerous ones, driving alone which wasn't right 😁). My main concern was damages to the car and expensive repairs . I then came across Carnity and learnt that their focus was on safe driving without bashing up the car, safety and discipline so I signed up. Have since finished my Absolute newbie and another twilight Drive last weekend. I must say it's been great fun.

I drive a 2015 Toyota Prado V6 and look forward to casual drives more to enjoy the scenic beauty of the region rather than extreme high powered dune bashing. See you in the sand!

  4. Hi All, it was just my second drive but driving behind @Srikumarand with @Gaurav leading really boosted my confidence and I thought I did fairly well😁. Driving in the dark was an exhilarating experience. It was lovely meeting new people and seeing the kids having a great time. It was the first time in the dunes for my mother-in-law (82), she's been in the UAE for 45 years!!. She's vowed its her last time!!?😂. All in all a fun evening. Thank you Carnity.

  6. @Brette @JeromeFJ..Thank you!  it was such a wonderful experience today and I am glad I could join this drive after 2 quick trips to DM to pick up a compressor , radio and flagpole! 😜. Learnt so much about desert driving and could see myself getting the hang of it after some guidance from both Marshalls and other more experienced colleagues. I realised the reason I was sliding sideways on the slope was coz I was lifting my leg off the gas when reaching the stage where we drove parallel to the base. Once I kept the momentum going at that stage, I could manage to complete the loop with more confidence. @Bretteplease correct me if this isn't right:).

The words of encouragement radioed by @JeromeFJ after we completed each manouvre were motivating.

Thanks to all the convoy colleagues for their support and readiness to always assist.

Hey guys, I am planning to bring some passengers with me tomorrow, do you know by any chance if there are still restrictions about car-sharing and the max amount of people in the car?

I can’t find recent updates about it..

    Cheers,

    Federico

@Federico Galbieri..last week I called the Dubai police call center to check on this. The 3 person per car limit is still valid. As per the internet masks are to be worn inside the car if they are not from the same household.Dubai police call center can be reached on 901.

Welcome @khaled samirand @JKBand thanks  for joining this Absolute newbie drive, we will have a relaxing fun desert drive coming Saturday and I look forward to seeing you all.

Please share your vehicle details - Make, Model, Year.

Do you have any prior off-road experience?

Confirm your vehicle has front and rear tow hooks / eyelets.

Confirm your vehicle has minimum of 8 inches of ground clearance.

Hello Again @Brette. I have basic offroading experience. I have a 2015 Toyota Prado (4 Litre).

It has the requisite ground clearance and the front and rear tow hooks.

I would be joining this absolute newbie drive on 29th Jan with my wife.

    thank you.

Welcome @Taimur Khan There is no such thing as stupid questions.

You are correct, in the desert we always drive in 4H (4x4 wheel high gearing). We only use 4L (4x4 low gear) during recovery (self recovery or when someone is recovering your vehicle with a recovery rope).

Your Prado is always in 4H by default, but you will have a button that allow you to put it in 4L (low gear).

Hope this clarifies your doubt :)

Yes this was what I understood. My doubt lies on the answer to that accident video that says he was not in 4x4 mode. I presume that vehicle has an option of 2WD mode unlike a Prado?
