adil
Share its little story and detail to inspire everyone, that all cars aren't meant to break your bank account. Honda Civic 93' Model, with manual steering, manual gear, manual window. I had that for 4 years and I think I bought that for 9500 Dirhams and sold for 7500 Dirhams. Barry
Does free count? I got a Mk2 Vauxhall Cavalier for free once. The boot and some doors were welded on to stop them from falling off. Had some fun with it until it put a piston through the side of the block. Also got a free Vauxhall Chevette Got a free Renault Laguna too Had a few other free cars. The cheapest one I paid for was a Lada Riva for £20 (100 dhs). Bought loads of cars for under £100 (500 dhs). There are plenty of cheap cars out there that people have given up on that you can get working again in a few hours with some tools and a bit of know how 3 2
Gaurav
@Barry seems like you are a free car magnet in this sweet world. Mine was Nissan Sunny 1996 model as my first car in 2002 in Dubai. Done few impulsive minor accidents, road rage, blown head gasket, faded roof, tried all ghetto mods and cheap fixes to learn my lesson - HARD WAY. I can't remember actual value but it was within 5-10k AED. Sold it to my friend after engine rebuild and told him not to redline it again. My wife still teases me that I was a Shumacher on every red light with faded roof sunny. 1 4 1 Let's root for each other & watch each other grow. desertdude
I've gotten 2 free cars till date. A 1998 Land Rover Discovery and a 2005 Range Rover. Incidentally I had a 98 D1 when I got the D1 and had/still have a 03 Range Rover when I got the 05. Both needed very minor repairs to get them back on the road and they were in great nick otherwise. But since I had no need for them I just scavenged them for parts I needed or could have needed in the future and sold them as scrap. I could have repaired them and sold them but I didn't go that route with the D1 and as for the RR me plus 2 other buddies have the same car so it became a common parts donor among the three of us. Then I had to move house and didn't have the place to keep it so sold it for scrap to the highest bidder. My next car was my first a one owner since new fully loaded low kms 91 Civic which I bought for 4k and then later sold for 6k after I had no use for it anymore. Next in line would be a buddy scored a rare 2.0 GT sports back fully loaded 91 Toyota Carina for 500 used it for two years. I had it for like 6 months in the middle and then sold it for 1500 Then we just bought a 2005 Honda Civic full auto for 3500 around 6 months back and still using it. 2
sertac
1999 Grand Cherokee for 6000. It is amazing for a 6000AED beater Jeep. I only needed to work on transmission and fixing some leaks. I put 18.000km on it from May till today. 3
Frederic
1999 BMW 318 Touring which i bought for 1400 euro. It had already 330.000kms on the clock but bought it and got engine replaced. Did another 120.000kms with it without any issues. oh and even cheaper was a ‘87 Range Rover Classic for 250 euros with the plan of restoring but after seeing the amount of work I sold it for 500 the next week. 1 3 "Go as far as you can see; once you get there, you'll be able to see further." Wrangeld
If being given a car counts, I was given my first ever car - a Triumph Dolomite. I bought a Renault 5 TL for UKP25, which ran perfectly without any maintenance for 6 months until a passing lorry somewhat too close decided to treat the front wing as if it was a can opener. The cost of the new wing was more than it was worth to repair. 3

treks
Has to be my V6 Ford Cortina XR6. Bought it new for 7 300 ZAR in 1981, and sold it for 12 000 ZAR in 2005, with less than 60 000km on the clock. Only major repairs were a new starter, an alternator- and several sets of wiper blades. Never even changed the brake pads/shoes. Its fuel consumption was terrible though- hence the low mileage. Rahimdad
My first car was my cheapest. Honda Civic 1991 DX. Bought it in 1994 at AED23000, besides normal wear and tear like brakes and oil and filter change, just had to replace the fuel pump. This costed me AED 75 as I did it myself, just had to buy the part. After 4 years sold it at AED 15000 which I think was a fair deal.
