  1. Hi everyone I wanna just try to report about the extreme drive we did. Sorry for being verbose but I think that a detail of the facts is needed. The drive was organized in order to offer to all of us a great experience in one of the most challenging sites I drove till now. Shuwaib is full of big dunes that are offering a thrilling experience to all the attendees. The convoy was composed in order to put the lighter cars in front and the heavy one on the back. @Thomas Varghese, as SL and Francois Sweep. The idea was to climb on all the deepest dunes and find our and our car’s limit. We started early (around 5:40) and honestly I was excited about what was planned. The first big dune was in front of us, no tacks on the sand, with a perfect morning light to enjoy the landscapes. Started with the first steep climb and I found that not everyone was able to climb. Thomas was struggling. After three attempts I suggested he reroute and give some space to the others. The others were able to climb and as soon as Francois joined us we started again looking for other opportunities around the same dune. The same happened a few times after as soon as I was trying to push the limits of the cars. We moved forward because another convoy of crazy people (the leader with an FJ cruiser named “washing machine”) was crossing our path often. The next big dune was the same, as soon as I pushed the level I got refusals and had to stop. Thomas was the one that was struggling the most in those parts and we had our first popout. Hopefully it was an easy fix and in 15 minutes we were on the road again. Between the big dunes we met some technical areas and here all the components of the convoy showed an exceptional level. The pace was always high, above 35 Km/h with no issues of any kind. Next big dune. I decided to climb to the back side to avoid other convoys. Here the path was different. A sequence of climbs with a big bowl. Everyone did well on that part till Amir had his popout. Joined him and Francois. We spent some time before fixing it because the tire was not easy to inflate. Started again and reached the Super Bowl. At least 25 cars were there, most of them climbing following their own path. I found some space and reached the top. Just after me Thomas crossed, didn’t see me and continued till on the opposite side. We met on the bottom of the dune and started again. Here the convoy did well until Amir crested. Francoins was helping him but when I reached that the car was impossible to unstuck with the rope. We used the Amir’s winch from the front even if that was the heavy side. The maneuver was successful, reaching the others we started again. After a few minutes Francois had an issue and asked to exit. Hopefully we were not far from the road so we brought Francois there and after being reassured that everything was good we left and dug again in the desert. Now our target was the Iftar Bowl. The Bowl side was full of cars playing the same game as the Iftar Bowl. After a quick tour I decided to turn around and skip that mess. Thomas followed me without problems but after the second crest Ilya (who took the sweep position when Francois left) showed up instead of Varun. Started asking to everybody found that the convoy was splitted in three Luca-Thomas-Ilya , Varum, Amir-Abu Muhammad. After collecting all the three pieces we moved with the target Al Badayer. On the next big dune while I was doing a side slope I saw two prado stuck just below me in a big pocket and two others were helping them. I wasn’t quick enough to tell everyone to wait. Thomas was already following me. When he saw the situation stopped with the car in the middle of the crest (was the only option as the car was just below). We waited for the other convoy to leave and we unstuck Thomas with Abu’s winch. At that point it was clear that Badayr was too far so opted for an early exit. The area was nice with medium-size dunes. Here Abu was crested once was again an ‘easy fix’. Reached the exit with some delay but we drove almost 60Km, which is enormous compared to the terrain and what happened. I wanna share my impressions of that drive. @Francois Germishuys and @Ilya were outstanding during the drive. No issue even when I pushed very hard the limit. @Abu Muhammad was the good news during the drive, very few refusals and only one crest (I think that we were all a bit tired that time). @varunmehndirattavery well done! Some refusals are completely fine with that level. @Amir Amiriand @Thomas Varghese, IMHO need to understand better how to exploit your car on these challenges. The impression was that your cars can give more but need to understand how to ask them for it. Maybe you need more drive in such areas (that's shouldn't be a big effort let's say ). Anyway with all the issues we had we covered almost 60 Km that's a great achievement in such challenging area. Hope to see you all soon again on the sand!

  5. Excellent, balanced report Luca. Seems that there were challenges the whole day. Some people's cars let them down or the other way round and they let their cars down. As your report states: people get stuck. It happens and we deal with it.

  19. @Matt.T @PaoloMaraziti @luis mantecon @Lakshmi Narasimhan @Nihal17 @Farouq Owdeh Today before beginning the drive, I had to make few changes to the convoy list due to few last minute no shows. We started from Tawi Nazwa to Pink Rock and finally exited at Big Red. Luckily there was not much traffic in the area but some cross tracks that we came across. We got the opportunity to practice some side slopping, nice high climbs and criss crossings. We barely had few refusal on the first half of the drive. Towards the end of the drive, we got few refusals, a stuck and a pop out which was successfully managed and fixed swiftly. Unfortunately, @Matt.T 4x4 selector cable snapped and was stuck in neutral but we figured out to manually move the selector to 4L from underneath the car. It was even more impressive when we exited on the tarmac, Matt managed to put it in 2H as well and also home safely. Thank you and Bravo to@PaoloMaraziti to go out of the way to follow Matt, it shows great team spirit, care and consideration towards each other. Bigs thanks to @Lakshmi Narasimhan for accepting to be centre forward the last minute and also for keeping the convoy together, as well as your assistance with the refusals. @Matt.T did a fabulous job as a sweep and maintained excellent communication with me being my eyes at the back of the convoy. @luis mantecon was a flawless second lead as usual and made necessary correction whenever required so that the rest of the convoy can a smooth drive. Thank you @Veedooshee (my co pilot) for always being by my side and your assistance whenever required. Lastly thank you everybody for joining the drive, for being such a nice team and for showing lots of patience and proactiveness to help each other which is very important for this sport. Looking forward to see you soon on another drive, till then stay safe and take care.

  23. As usual @Luca Palanca Falsini's report is very well balanced and upto the mark. I acknowledge that I had some refusal's in the beginning. Yes I know what my car can do and how to push it but its the same area where I damaged the differential and got stuck inside the desert hopelessly. If my friends wouldn't have helped me to get the mechanic inside the desert I would have had to shell out a fortune to get the car out from that area. From 4pm to 2am early morning we had to spend inside the desert to get out with the car. Regarding losing @Luca Palanca Falsini in the middle of mayhem up the super bowl it my mistake as I saw him exiting but couldn't take my eyes off the road as it was total chaos where all convoys were running hither and there. Sorry for that. Well at the end of the day everybody made it out. In short i consider this drive to James Bond movie car chases. James Bond aka @Luca Palanca Falsini is trying trying all that he could to throw us off but we villains follow him with renewed vigor. Thank you all for the fun.

  33. You shouldn't be taking 360 degree feedback as a Mayhem even when its constructive criticism. Trip lead can only contribute when he/she has been told of certain issues by other peers or experience a slow down with constant refusals or stuck. Example: If a person fighting gravity on every dune it may go unnoticed by trip lead and it "has to be" reported by peers for each other safety. That's why we encourage from Fewbie upward member to share the drive experience and feedback. https://carnity.com/forums/topic/16479-off-road-club-grading-structure-v30 It's completely up to each member's choice to share such critical feedback with trip lead during or after the drive or share it in drive topic, of course respectfully, helpful and kind. And this 360 feedback become even more important and pressing on Extreme drives to keep a close watch on each other.

  35. Great drive we had yesterday, the longest i had in my off-road life with Carnity!! - 74 Km , if i have my stats right Thanks to @Ale Vallecchiand all the other senior drivers and support team @Thomas Varghese, @Shaaz Sha, @MUHAMMAD Kashif RAZZAQ and @Jeepie. We had a short but strong convoy with minimum refusals and stucks, which meant we were continuously driving and learning. This is also by far the ride with maximum ridge riding for me, and the key take aways from the drive were techniques to get on the ridge safely, broad ridge riding and safe exit from the ridge, speed control on the ridge etc. Not that i have mastered it, but feeling confident of the foundation laid, on which i can build on. Got an opportunity to help Charlie @Zixuan Huang with his radiator hose issue, although most of the job was done by @Shaaz Sha, and hope Charlie has sorted it out and looking forward to seeing you on the weekend drives. And congrats Charlie for your fewbie promotion. Got a chance at "sweep" duty , as @Jeepie had to exit early . I was driving in front of you Marjan, and not sure if i was doing OK, or i was churning up the sand for you Good to drive with @Marky B as well, and hope we get opportunities to have a chat and get to know each other soon. Looking forward and coming back for more!!

  36. Hi all, so the issue with my car was normal wear and tear as they say, the front drive shaft bushes are starting to wear out and as a result caused light knocking noise/ feedback into the cabin, obviously the regular desert driving adds more strain on a vehicle than normal street driving and then occasional speed bump and sidewalk you drive over... they will replace them under warranty. It’s always a good idea to listen to your car when something isn’t as it normally is rather than keep on pushing just to save face.

  37. Thank you very much @Anish Sfor doing it again, as I said after the drive, you always manage to lead us with a perfect mix between fun and safety. Big thanks also to @Veedoosheefor her amazing copilot role and for supporting with the pop out and other refusals, impecable job. Incredible @Lakshmi Narasimhan, you have become an experienced driver assuming lead and support roles in record time !!! It is a pleasure always driving with you, you make the convoy feel safer. Thanks also to @Matt.Tgreat sweep always keeping us informed and managing refusals at the back fantastically, and also incredible ability to fix his mechanical problems on spot, nice meeting you buddy, I would like to have you around If I had problems with me clutch !! Also big thanks to @PaoloMarazitigreat guy!! Nice meeting you too. You did it amazing in all sense, driving great and supporting when there was any issue. Muchas gracias!!!!! @Nihal17@Farouq Owdehwell done !! It’s been one of the best drives since I joined the club!!! Well done guys, see you on the dunes!! Have a nice week ahead.

  38. This drive had a relatively small convoy, which was an advantage for those of us at the back as we didn’t have to face a lot of churned up sand 😂. Despite being a Newbie drive, the pace was much more of that of a Fewbie Level drive, of which we were informed of before hand by @Ale Vallecchi. It was amazing to see how, even a fast paced drive, was rather relaxing and calming, allowing us to thoroughly enjoy the drive without much of an adrenaline rush. Everyone drove extremely well due to which we barely had any stucks or refusals, just a couple of reattempts at the Ridge and nothing serious. We all exited to tarmac, still full of energy and smiling faces, for which I thank @Ale Vallecchi for being an Amazing lead and @Jeepie @Shaaz Sha for assistance with the recoveries.

I think both @Lorenzo Candelpergher and @Luca Palanca Falsini drives are excellent, its always exciting to see them going over dunes etc and making me at the back think like lol good luck to the rest follow that ... 😜✌🏼It sure proved to be a challenge as ive seen in my last few extreme drives ! the extreme drive in Abu Dhabi was just great as well with @Emmanuel , no drama at all, all excellent drivers on that day, good fun, the way it should be!

  44. Another hint to crawl out of a bowl is to use 4LO second gear. It gives you all the torque without generating too much wheel spin. Of course, as soon as you are out, switch back to 4Hi

  46. Hi @Anoop Nair, this will be slightly different for different 4x4 models based on the gear ratio. What you need to try to do is to keep your car in the power band during the drive. In my case this is between 2500 and 3500rpm, which allows me to use the available power at all times. During a hill climb from a standstill, go to first gear and keep it in gear (do not change gears while climbing). When you have to do a long hill climb or sideslope where you have the chance to take a long running up, you can shift to second gear but make sure you are well within your powerband otherwise you will lose your momentum. In my Pajero it goes as following: 1st gear up to 6000rpm/ +/- 50kmh (used for hill climb only, nothing else). 2nd gear for most sidesloping at about 40-45 km/h. 3rd gear for fast pace desert driving where no climbs are needed. I have seen people doing a hill climb in first gear, then move up to second gear, and when losing momentum, pushing it back to first gear. I am not a fan of doing this as this creates a massive strain on the clutch and you need to do this very fast or the lack of momentum will abort your hill climb immediately. In my Pajero my first gear is very short while the second gear is quite long. For Jeep this might be different. I think @Srikumar will be able to relate his experience as well.

  47. It was a very pleasant drive on the dazzling Saturday afternoon, I believe this is the longest distance I have achieved so far in a Newbie drive. And a very valuable learning session, that every less experienced driver got to follow one of the senior drivers. Thank you so much for the support and assistance during the drive! @Thomas Varghese @Shaaz Sha @MUHAMMAD Kashif RAZZAQ @Jeepie Excellent selection of the route and terrain by @Ale Vallecchi, the drive was challenging and helped me a lot on syncing with my car. Prof. Ale is one of the most informative Marshals that I have driven with by far, couldn't find a better ridge riding 101 professor than Prof. Ale! The pleasance did last long but not long enough, a hose on the radiator came off as we existing. With the help of @Sunil Mathew and Shaaz, we managed to reconnect the hose and had Xterra expert Thomas checking the connection, I reached home with no surprises at all. Thank you all for the assistance and help! @Marky B you did well taking the 3rd position, keep it up. Good to meet all of you, and see you soon on the sands~
