  2. @Vanessa8580 - that was a spectacular drive, and great fun. Many thanks indeed. Duct tape included. @Zed @ASAD. @Sunil Mathew @Waqas Parvez @AlexM @Pierre de Maigret - thanks for your support and general amusement at my latest disgraceful episode. I am posting photos to the gallery, mostly taken by my co-pilot Nigel. Some of them very good. I include the latest pictures in his collection 'How not to drive in the desert the Andrew way'. Enjoy

  3. @Vanessa8580 - thank you for making my Sweihan debut amazing , and 10 times worth the 170 Km drive from home !!! Had enough of the tall dunes and apologies for the untimely question - "Are we done with the tall dunes" early on the drive Our drive was mostly smooth flowing , couple of tugs, self recoveries and pop outs thrown in as garnishing !! ... Couple of pop outs with @Andrew McCarthy and @Pierre de Maigret.. While Andrew's pop out was a result of being a bit overambitious to climb into and out of a narrow ditch , Pierre's one was due to hitting a dry bush/ sand mound at the wrong angle...both were solved in no time with the able involvement of @Zed, @Waqas Parvez and @Vanessa8580 @ASAD. and @AlexM - trouble free drive, i believe ...see you all when our paths cross again on the next drive!!

  10. Drive Details Do you know how Area 53 got its name? Well any off-roader in UAE will tell you - with its Pyramid shaped vertiginous dunes, razor sharp ridges, the mystery that this area offers to Off-roaders is atleast 2 steps ahead of the notorious Area 51..:) This is undoubtedly the area to explore when one needs that extra dose of adrenaline rush. So, this Sunday, lets get set to test our climbing skills through this awe-inspiring terrain - which has tested the best of off-roaders in UAE. Our goal through this drive shall be to climb up every dune >200mtr high in this area (yup, it has a lot of them) and hence, the element of Checkpoint 200 as mission of this drive. General Info This drive is organized in full compliance with the COVID19 guidelines. We expect every member that joins this drive to go through below information and and strictly follow these guidelines in order not to jeopardize someone's health, and to ensure we can keep organizing these drives safely. 11. Thanks all for RSVPing for the drive. This really went faster than i expected - seems no one is scared of the crazy high dunes at Area 53 We have a very strong convoy - same usual supercool gang every sunday . However, considering the demanding nature of this terrain and our drive plan, refer below for some suggestions. To put things in perspective, Faya's highest point is 223mtr above sea level and plan here is to spend most of our time 200mtr above sea level - so it will be like climbing Big Red & Faya over and over again. a.) Unless fully convinced about yours and your vehicle's climbing ability, avoid passengers for this drive. Keep the vehicle light and your mind free of any distractions. b.) If your vehicle has struggled in past to climb steep dunes in D mode, this will surely be a drive where you would need to use Tip Tronics - so would be good to get used to it before the drive. Ofcourse, we will explore this element during the drive as well, however, some practice before the drive always helps - especially if not used to it. c.) Ensure you have all your off-roading gears. d.) Above all you need to ensure that you are fully rested for the drive. So, plan the parties on friday night not saturday. Looking forward to see you all on red dunes of Area 53. @Mahmoud Taha and @Sam K congrats on being promoted to FB+, as our gift to you - you both will be the official shovel manager on this drive. Have a nice protein rich breakfast for next few days @Prakash Anoop @Haitham Khattab @Imran Kashif @Beide Worku @Jose Thomas @Morshedi @takeshi sobue @Imteeaz @salah2u Sam K - You are WL1. @Amr Aydin - Your are on WL2

  15. Drive report: Cool morning… with bunch of cool drivers! After the initial struggle of getting to the starting point for a couple of cars… we had our quick briefing and were rolling at 5.40 am. We did a couple to side sloping and cross cross to get inside the dunes for the amazing view of the rising sun on the desert horizon. here we did a quick recap of the essential for slip face climbing. we then headed in the general direction towards lisaili finding slip faces to get the feel of car climbing on the soft slip faces…we drove for about an hour when we had our first refusal which was quickly sorted by @Kailas… we attempted some high slip face climbs on the ridges and convoy gained confidence as we zoomed pass long range dunes see- sawing on the soft and hard faces… halfway towards the lisaili long range dunes I decided to circle back to the starting point having about 1.5 hours for the drive… at this time, we had a couple of refusals and stuck which was again very well managed by kailas… having a Marshal as support has its own perks! as we progressed on the small technical patch, I got caught in a soft patch and bellied out requiring a couple of tugs from Deepak to get me out! Driver fatigue started to kick in with stucks during cross crosses.. shoveling was the key to get out of the situation until it became too hot in direct sun.. we eventually made our way towards the exit and all were out by 9.30 am. @Jaro Tuzinsky you did well for your first 2nd lead and m sure u got a new perspective of your car! @Sunny84 u did well to chase the two pajero’s and drove well! Refusals are how me learn and progress… @Dinesh Kumar A Getting stuck is part of the game and I believe it’s mostly the fatigue that kicked in.. you drove brilliantly! @Zulfikhar Naiyar as I said during our post drive chat… u need to spend some more time with your X on the dunes to get to know her a little more! 😂 well driven! No radio callouts from @Ignacio Quindós @Tareck @takeshi sobue meant u breezed through the terrain and had fun! thanks @DP1011 , Deepak wrangler for the shovels and tugs.. well done.. thanks @Kailas for joining the drive and handling the situations at the back!! See you soon in sand!!
