Liwa adventure 2023:
This had been one of most awaited drive for the year and brings along the excitement of just being surrounded by the majestic dunes and the ever gasping views of endless desert.
The drive had all the elements one could expect.. from a slow delayed start due to fog , to long climbs and difficult technical bowls to sweeping slopes to cherish.
it was all going well until the fateful moment when we heard the radio call of the clutch failure on Anoop’s Jeep at around 2 pm just after the lunch break. (Near waypoint 12)
it was then the drive became a recovery drive led by the legends @Gaurav and @Srikumar…the entire convoy including myself and@Asif Hussain moving to the support team following step by step instructions..after a carefully selected exit route was recced, the Jeep was attached to the ever powerful Raptor and the two started the tango to get out of the tight bowls area…. It was a couple of dunes later, just before the final dune before the exit, the raptor and jeep got stuck climbing a slip face with two steep bowls on either side.
multiple attempts were made to reposition the cars to have one last go at that stretch but all in vain. The area was just too soft and steep angles. With every attempt, The Jeep started to slipping more into the bowl and after about 5 hours of attempts , it was decided to leave the car and head to the camping spot.we reached the waypoint 18 around 9.45 pm and the convoy members were finally able to relax and unwind after the long had day.
The next day, We all gathered our thoughts and decided to take support from the other convoy members who had winches.
we made our way back to the recovery point around 11:45 am and with renewed spirit and new tools ( extra winches of @Hisham Masaad and @Bjoern) under the watchful eyes and leadership of @Gaurav, began the next phase of recovering what now was being called the “yellow Jeep”.With car about to rollover while winching, to setting up anchor , to pulling against all physics , the recovery was like a masterclass for all members present.
After multiple changes in strategies based on what’s working and what’s not, the yellow jeep finally emerged from the bottom of the hellhole and onto the flat patch at around 3:30 pm.
kudos to the entire convoy,
@Gaurav and @Srikumar for leading the recovery, @Dodi Syahdar for the never give up attitude and going thru the sheer physical stress,
@Ranjan Das for the winching on day 1 and day 2. Your machine took a heavy toll for sure..
shoveling boys @Waqas Parvez @ASAD. @Pacific @munkybizness @Vaibhav @Ishak @Santoso Marjuki @Tharun Kumar Vyou guys were special without whom the recovery would not have been possible.
Special thanks to @Srikumar for leaving the fb convoy and going through all the pain on day 1 while we attempted the recovery. C@Tharun Kumar V @Bjoern for showing amazing team spirit and courage to leave your designated drives and join us for the recovery, knowing that it may very well delay them getting back home.
special thanks again to @Hisham Masaad for being instrumental with your contribution in the recovery both physically and mentally.
thankyou @Sunil Mathew and @Mario Cornejo for being part of this epic drive and I am sure you would have also stayed back on day 2 with the IM convoy had it not been for personal reasons and the car issue.
thankyou all for the brilliant support and m sure this drive will be talked about for not only the tenacity of the team, the complexity of recovery, the leadership, but also for the carmaradire of the convoy and the heartfelt laughter that resonated at the campsite until late night!!
see you all soon in sand.
reading this i could feel what in between the lines from details , i wish i was there but reading the above helped the abstract forming in my vivid imagination ,although iam 100% sure the realitiy was far more challenging mentally and physically and still after all always together solutions can be brought to surface . well done every one and viva Carnity

Dear Friends
@Imteeaz @Daniel Rodas and @Gerrit Bus
Thank you all for making this drive so lovely this after noon . You all rocked today especially Gerrit didn’t feel like it’s your first Intermediate drive. We got refusals and stuck as expected and we all had opportunity to think about it and get out with the help of the shovel only leaving our ropes in the trunks . Very well done all and hope to see ya again soon in the sand .take care and enjoy your weekend 🙏

Dear Friends
@Imteeaz @Daniel Rodas @Gerrit Bus and @Beide Worku
Thanks for your Interest and RSVPing the drive. Since I started leading all my drives had never ended without driving for a while in technical terrain as I always believe that mastering this path along what it brings with it will make us a better off roaders . However in this drive it will be devoted let’s say 80 % of it driving along the tightest routes what Alqudra desert has to offer leaving the remaining for the way back to exit .
The radio channel and convoy order will be announced on site at meeting point .
please be on time in order to finish on time at sunset expected .
see you tomorrow inshallah

@Gaurav hehehe it has been realy long time since this exercise 😄
Well this is the danger of driving on 2WD in the desert , the unspining front wheels acted like a break while the back of the car still in forward momentum. … the rest you know now 😉

Dear @Ali Abbas
How have you been ? It has been been a very long time .almost more than a year and a half or more since you drove with carnity regardless of the level and as a matter or Intermediate level And as from your profile you did the only one IM drive in April 2021.
for your own safety I highly recommend you not to join such level and instead join a lower in difficulty level like Newbie or maximum fewbie level couple of times till you become synchronised back with your vehicle to the sand driving .
There is no place I am afraid to take any high risk please . Please I am afraid to ask you to remove your self from this drive . I hope you can understand. Thank you 🙏- 3

Trip Report
Me and My little copilot Abdallah arrived around 14:40 and we met for the first time @Bashar Beasha with his awesome black y61 who was almost ready . It was real pleasure. As the time was passing we realised that @Ahmad Nerat was mislead by google map somewhere near Damac hills 2 😱where the others were not far from us at the entry next to tarmac already ready to move. by the time I was checking every one and their vehicles @Ahmad Nerat has just arrived And in no time was ready and joined the briefing which was just started . Emphasis on the safety points and convoy discipline was well acknowledged and appreciated throughout the whole drive including the night drive the last hour.
starting to to realign the convoy in order as we moved and within couple of minutes we arrived at our first ♾️ loop .
At Fewbie level practicing safely how to ride the ridge and criss cross demands attention from both the participant and the lead / support as well . Therefore I found the “ infinity like loop “ model would serve both purposes by giving the chance to cross one dune from right , left as well as the classical straight up / down fashion along the loop and in the same time I could observe as a lead the entire convoy how they do that from different directions
few times more or less we kept on doing it and obviously the whole convoy enjoyed it.
the second half of the trip started with a break at Riche’s bar and ended with the last break enjoying the sun set at the crescent lake and in between driving driving and driving where ever the dunes took us along it’s breath taking reflection of the inclining sun toward the far west .
The third and last part was the night drive action where all the senses aroused and the heart beats increased taking us back to last exit our final destination via Al Qudra Yoga Center ( the mushroom like shaped ) 😅 I have to say that this part although for some was first time but paradoxically was bit faster in pace at some points and free of any issues at all . Looks like the infinity loops was fruitful at the end of the day 👍😉.
@Benjamin despite your very young age , you drove exceptionally very well with vigilance and you corrected to perfection my little drops even before I instruct you to do . You played the second lead amazingly well. Nice to meet you for the first time 👍.
@Tharun Kumar V third time we meet I believe . very well driving . However keeping bit more of distance would be more safer to react faster . You self recovered nicely with bit of help and our ropes remained in the trunk untouched. 👍
@Ahmad Nerat second time we meet after the pink rock I believe . Today you managed your heavy LC especially in the technical patched and tight twistes like a pro well done 👍
The two Nissans y61 after each other black and white what an awesome combo @Bashar Beasha and @Sebb pleasure meeting both of you first time . Apart from one refusal or two here or there I would say you did really good . Just keep on practicing 👍@Tareq Al Turq being in the middle connecting the first to the second half of the convoy was like a walk in the park for you my friend. Very well done 👍
@Pranjal Varsani1 pleasure meeting you once more after that trip from faqa to nahel. Flawless drive bro 👍
@Zubair also first time we drive together I believe you enjoyed the white FJC like every one did. Pleasure and well done 👍
@Mike M. Being in the back couldn’t see much but in the infinity loops part definitely you did great . Keep it up bro 👍
@Harshal hearing the roar of the mighty Tundra from that far I knew that you were enjoying your time . I hope you are ok now after you exited right after the crescent lake .
last but not the least special thanks 🙏 for @Fabien Monleau for supporting the drive and guiding our friends whenever was needed.
all and all it was a smooth enjoyable day out with you fine ppl this afternoon .
till we meet again take care and drive safe .
cheers 🌺
