    Hi Group Members,

I do have a negative mindset with regard to buying  LR 4 (2010) based on what I have read here and when googled on it’s realibility.

Last week I saw and drove a LR4 2010 6 cyl with 220000 kms. The car is fully maintained at agency and is being sold by second owner of 3 years.

I liked the car. The stearing looked little heavy when compared to my current Jeep GC overland 2011 but overall I kind of liked the looks and the drive.

Tomorrow I am taking the car for a auto testing center for a full physical and computerized checkup and will make a final call.

I will be happy if I can use this car for 3 to 5 years without major expense. Will be not be using this for off road as I want to make my existing JGC as main off road car (This discussion for another time).

Two issues that has come to light with LR4 as disclosed by the seller is (he discovered during recent inspections) is that the front bonnet is repainted by first owner (no record of it) and steering oil leak.

Assuming that no major issues are discovered in tomorrow’s test, what will be your advise based on your experience?

I am happy with the price (approx 27K). May negotiate it further. The seller has brought down the price during last one week from high 30s. I have so far not negotiated the price

My main concern is not to get cheated or get a car which has some major flaw or has some major reliability issue.

    Thank you in advance.

One more thing I am interested is to know if some of you have a good/Positive experience with LR4?

    LR4 early models only offered v8 5.0, if it's v6 then it's a LR3 face lifted to LR4's look. 15 to 18 will be ideal cost for a LR3 v6.

Sell JGC and get a Prado LC150 for onroad and offroad 😁😁

  2. It's an eventful drive yet we all made to the end.

Thank you @Hisham Masaad for the drive, and accommodating all of us, @Rob S for CF and Sweep after my rear bumper damage.

Everybody did pretty well, some refusals/stucks as expected, but at the end they are all learnings.

@H3 Joe it was a pleasure driving behind you, the lines and approaches you took were really pleasure to eyes. I used to think H3 is a heavy American tank, untill today that you have shown to me the swiftness of H3, and now I found out that I5 H3 can be slightly ligther than my Pathfinder 🤣.

BTW I suppose yours is the v8 5.3?

  3. Altho I chose Dobinson twintube, so sad that Dobinson doesnt have stock....So I have Ironman Foamcell installed, done 1 drive and 200km+ highway today.

The highway performance is superb, stable from 0 -140 havent reached 160 yet, lots support on extreme cornering that I am afriad the AT tires will give up before the suspension does. firmer handling ofc, and stiffsness bit as well.

Offroad I couldnt do much today, absorption on the gravel track and cross track is great, did 60kmh on the gravel track exiting from big red to tarmac, very much in control and very little shock transmitted into the car, no fading in aborption.

    hi @Zixuan Huang - Charlie

Im running  dobinson twin tube in my xterra. compared to stock bilstein suspension it is little bit hard on road.  but i like it rather than soft.  in sand it gave me good improvements.  very less bottom out from front suspension maybe due to increased ride height and absorb cross tracks better than stock.  overall im happy with performance.

i installed 2 inch spacer prior to suspension change, but i didn't like it at all,

Umm interesting, then the twin tube should be a big improvement to my black stock shocks, thanks alot for the input,

I do not have a lot to contribute based on the options that you have laid out except that it is the perfect time since there will be Ramadan offers soon.  I am currently using the Dobinsons IMS and coil. Started using it since last Ramadan and relatively happy with it.  But I do not off-road as much compared to some of you.  IMS shocks allowed me to adjust the stiffness and I did request Dobinsons to make it less stiff as a compromise for on road comfort and I am happy with it. Although it is still stiffer than stock, no one complained when I ferry the family.

I think @Ale Vallecchi is running the Dobinsons Twin Tube. You may seek his opinion on the same.

haha my aim is the Ramadan offer, Ironman and Dobinson usually do the promotion as I remember.

I wish R51 could have more options except the above 3 Australian brands, but no🥺

    Let's wait for @Ale Vallecchi's comments on this 😁

Hi Charlie @Zixuan Huang - Charlie

With great respect , I believe the current setting of your pathfinder is perfect even the ground clearance for IM drives. However it’s all your choice and decision .
Just remember that most of the suspension lift set up comes along with it stiffness to your car and your lower back on the on road , one of the main reason I never changed my own set up . Who knows I might do it if I decide to get the third car ( Tesla sedan 😅

Yes, the current setting is stock + 2inch suspension spacer, and all above options are 1.5-2 inch only, so not an issue for me

However the rear springs bottom out during some small jumps and the stock shocks fade really quickly, thats why I am thinking of upgrading them.

Dear @Zixuan Huang - Charlie I suppose you won't be very fond of my suggestion but let me tell u mine. Sell the path finder, take the money, add the money you want to do the suspension upgrade plus the money you need to keep the car upgraded to IM level mechanics and buy a second hand Xterra or FJ Cruiser if it suits your budget.

It's a very tempting option too, getting an old US spec Xterra with rear diff lock and ABLS wouldn't cost too much,

but the highway stability, slightly longer WB, slightly larger cargo space with extra 2 seats of Pathfinder I cannot give up, ans I spend lots more time onroad than offroad

  8. Hi Folks,

As I have reached IM level, I see the need of upgrading my suspension.

Because Pathfinder R51 isn't a popular offroader, not many companies do suspension for R51, hence here are my options:

    1. Dobinson twin tube with coils (Highly recommended by a close friend, 2 years warranty)

    2. Ironman 40mm foam cell with coils (Popular choice for R51 owners around the globe, 3 years warranty)

    3. Tough dog 41mm foam cell with coils (Another popular choice for R51 owners around the globe, looks tougher and provides 4 year unlimited km warranty)

    My preference is Ironman>Dobinson>Tough Dog

Ironman ME direct supplies with warranty support, twintube+foamcell supposingly is better than just the twintube Dobinson, and Tough Dog doesnt have direct dealer in ME, warranty support can be compromised.

R51 has less ground clearance, it requires 1.5inch and above lift for desert, For this reason Bilstein isn't an option here as it doesn't provide the longer monotube shock b8 5100 for rear.

Please let me know if anybody has experience with the above 3 products, and additional options are welcomed.

  9. It was not easy driving behind 12 cars in Badayer, especially climbing on slip faces, took me some re-attempts and loops. driving with the right tire pressure helped a lot too. Thank you @Hisham Masaad for the reload that I could catch up with you, and support & guidance from @M.Seidam.

What's next... Yalla Faya ? I bet most of us havent seen sphinx rock and camel rock 😁

Update on the 2009 qx56 after 5 newbie drives.

The car is quite powerful and pulls its weight. The front bumper cracked at a few places while nose diving and the rear keeps getting bent. (removed rear bumper and trimmed the front. Haven't driven it yet after that.)

Fishtails a lot during side sweeps. After 5 drives, i feel this can be managed once i get more skilled.

Very low center of gravity - gives great confidence.

    Mods on my bucket list,

    * A/T tires
    * Bash plate (bumper trim exposes a lot of underbody)
    * Find out a way to disable ABS. It makes me scream in my head while nose diving.
    * Switch to Armada rear shocks once the lovely air suspension quits on me.

Planning to continue to fewbie with it. Let's see if this can take me to fewbie plus.

Long term plan - swap this engine into an xterra :) 145hp/ton

     @desertdude @Frederic @Zixuan Huang - Charlie

I can make Pathfinder to IM, surely you can do too with more the powerful QX56.

Killer switch for ABS/Traction control is an easy mod, you can get it done with bash plate. Also when they do bash plate, have a look at front tow points, Nissan doesnt always do good tow points. you need minimum 3 bolts for one tow point, considering the weight of QX56.

Fishtail you will learn to manage in FB/+ levels. when you can control fishtailing, its fun to fishtail sometimes 😛

Pathfinder R51 had the same setup of Armada/QX56 - VK56DE+5AT in US, for 5000+ cars only ☹️,

Just resurrecting this thread, because knowing how much the Geolandars GO15s are loved around here, I've had a pretty bad run with them so far. I've now had two tyres fail on me due to structural issues in their construction. And when you put that out of 5 tires - that's a 40% rate of failure already.

My Yoko Geolandar GO15s had barely 10k kms on them, when I developed the first issue. After suffering three pop-outs on the same tyre, I took it in for inspection to discover cuts in the bead lining. If the pressure was too low or the impact too hard, this would unseat itself.

    1571239583_Geo-1-BeadliningIssue.png.fe7cd8a7cd7d0295c7adf93f09f7dece.png

And then, this weekend, my spare GO15, also suffered a pop-out. Of course, the majority of these pop-outs are my faults. Too hard of an impact or too violent with my cornering are all going to lead to unseating the bead, so I chalked it up to driver error (mine). On the way home, the tire that was refixed began to wobble which usually happens after popouts for me due to additional sand making it into the tire when inflating. I made it home, and then decided I would visit a tire shop on Sunday morning.

Unfortunately, I couldn't get to it before this evening, when driving it on the highway, the tire suddenly gave away. I somehow brought the car under control, and moved to the shoulder from where I headed to a tire shop - which was fortunately, just 200m out at a gas station. Here, we discovered the following issue in the internal wall of the tyre.

    2032788700_Geo-2-SidewallIssue.png.203c3377d7f404d7c06d2a6bc1b2fcec.png

This is the second GO15 I have had an issue with in less than 4 months, with less than 15k kms of driving. At this point, I feel like I got extremely unlucky, and just got a bad batch. But, with two issues now, I'm also beginning to think if I need to get another brand of tires.

new tires are with 1 year warranty, check with your supplier.

Mine is around 10k km too, daily + weekend offroad. no visible dmg nor pop out so far ( I run on 10 psi with stock rim).
