Dear Desert Drivers @Federico Galbieri @Alfred Alinazar @Suresh K @Jose Thomas @Haitham Khattab @Sergio Big Dawg @Hisham Masaad @Michel Van Woudenberg @KKIRAN @Beide Worku @Gerrit Bus @Tareck I hope you're all looking forward to the drive tomorrow. Tawi Nizwa is one of the iconic starting points for Carnity, and I'm sure most of you have already driven in this area. But it offers so many possible variations that each drive remains unique. It will be a mix of smooth dunes, some high climbs, nice ridges and bowls, a bit of technical... and of course a nice desert environment. Passengers are ok, provided that they have taken the necessary precaution for motion sickness. As a reminder, they are not allowed to drive. Check your radio, and tune it to Channel 2. Take as much rest as you can before the drive, you will need your full focus and concentration for the early morning ! The meeting is 5:15 am at https://goo.gl/maps/dmvrVEahLQhQyzyP6 The convoy order will be6 points

Hi Gurcharan, I'm sorry, but it is still one of my first leads, and I prefer to limit the size of the convoy (already 13 cars). I cannot accept you for tomorrow. Hopefully next time. Thank you for your understanding2 points

I was referring to the most stressful moment of the week, Monday 7:00 pm when the drives come open for registration on the website, and we go refresh, refresh, refresh, click !!! .... and most drives get full in less than 1 min !1 point

Very good topic @Jessica Lambert ! @Melenany is a certified first aid instructor for the government. I will tag him in here as he might be able to chip in. I think you have covered it already really well. Accidents happen unfortunately and the better we are prepared, the better we can deal with them. In general if something serious happens, we are usually max 30mins away from the main roads on 90% of our drives we do (Liwa, Al Quoa, and other remote areas are more challenging). This means we can call the ambulance immediately and should be able to give a pinpoint location as to where the patient would need to be picked up. Within the Carnity club, we are lucky to have very capable members who are certified doctors in daily life, or people who have been trained in their profession to deal with such events. If i would have to rate the risk of occurence from my experiences i would say: 1) Burns (many cars overheat in the desert, or have cooling hoses or caps bursting off) 2) Dehydration. Is definitely something to look out for. 3) lacerations, crush, cuts, bruises, Not common but hence our training for recoveries and pop-out repair is essential. 4) motion sickness. Happens sometimes but with proper medication and exiting the drive this can be kept under control. 5) insect or snake bites. Not so common, and not deadly in UAE.1 point

Well that made up scale is based on real-life usage of BUYING and USING 4x4 for dune bashing rather than sitting on a laptop like a duck and watching tube and judging 60 - 80 hp/ton - Underpower for dunes - Not own, but driven few times 80 - 100 hp/ton - Borderline OK - 2002 Land Rover Discovery 100 - 120 hp/ton - Acceptable - 2003 - Land Cruiser GXR and 2006 Nissan Patrol 120 - 150 hp/ton - Good - 1999 Mitsubishi Pajero 150 - 200 hp/ton - Very Good - 2009 Chevrolet Trailblazer 200 - 250 hp/ton - Excellent - 2012 Land Rover Range Rover Thanks for your valuable input for Armada, I think Expedition also falls in a similar category. Will research both and add them in the list. Off course these numbers are to benchmark performance, but car overall condition really dictates the capability. As I remember buying 5.7 or 5.2 Magnum Jeep Grand Cherokee and spending money to make a project car, but every time I hit the sand in 4x4 gearing it starts heating up. Sold within 3 months.1 point
