  5. @Sreenath G@Batuhan Kulac@Alphin Aloor@Pascal@Rafey Hashmi@Richard Franks@Gautam Banka@Amr A@AlexM with the fantastic support of several Carnity seniors: @DP1011@Asif Hussain@Simon [email protected]@Ranjan Das@Senthil Kumar Thank you all for signing up for another LIWA adventure ! @GauravSoni and myself are looking forward to plan an adventurous route, but there's a couple of things we want to highlight for those who have not experienced LIWA yet: 1. This is not a typical ridge-riding / dunebashing style of drive. The main reason behind this are the massive and unpredictable shape of dunes, and the remoteness from easy exit points. This means it's more of an exploration drive where we will need to navigate monster dunes, cliffs, and find our way through this challenging terrain with treacherous bowls and soft sand. 2. Your skillset will be tested on this drive, so as your patience and mental resilience. It's a long drive where we will come across plenty of challenges with re-routing, stucks, and refusals. All part of the fun of going to LIWA of course 3. You need to prepare yourselves but your vehicle as well. If it breaks down in this remote desert, it will be a massive challenge to pull it out. Hence, PLEASE check-check-doublecheck your tires, fluids, suspension, battery, and make sure the car is properly serviced and inspected. Breakdowns can always happen but prevention is the key here. 4. Make sure you carry enough snacks, water, and the necessary stuff to camp comfortably. 5. Make sure all items, and especially your jerrycan is properly strapped tight in the car. 6. Get enough rest beforehand, as tiredness can be extremely dangerous in this environment. 7. Enjoy the terrain but be humble, otherwise LIWA will make you humble. It's not the place for crazy stunts. Having said that, i have no doubt we will be having a fantastic day out, and we can all gather at the camp on Saturday evening to share our stories. Whoever has extra space for some firewood, please bring it along as we can make a bonfire to keep us warm

  6. Please keep sharing this running commentary, so we can taste some bit of liwa.

  8. New also to the whole 4x4 and desert riding - this seems to be a great place to find info on UAE specific stuff! I have a background of motorcycle adventure riding and camping in Europe and looking forward to see what UAE and Oman has to offer. Looking into getting my first offroad capable car that should also double as a daily driver(no long distance mileage commute), i'm mainly looking at an older Pajero LWB 3.8 or a Nissan XTerra right now - for the offroad part i'm more inclined in exploring mountain roads and wadis but i never tasted the desert driving (except for some crazy dune riding with a tour company few years ago) so i would like to have that option available. My main focus is on enjoying quiet places and taking photos, i will add some from my camping trips back home. One question i have is posting into the Advice forum seems to be unavailable, is that restricted for new members? Some camping trip photos from back home:

  10. Good morning! I have been travelling so the update is slightly delayed. Our meeting point: https://maps.app.goo.gl/LpFJcZhidSszCeun7 We will be meeting at the opposite side of 2nd Dec cafe - so you have to go down the road and then take a U Turn and back. This area has a steep and very technical terrain at the start but becomes easier as we go, we will tackle it on our way back. We will reach a Jungle, half way point where we can take a break. After we reach the far end where we will find ourselves on top of a very tall dunes we will drive back to where we started. We will be coasting on channel 2. I will update the convoy order later.

  32. Dear Desert Drivers, We have been a bit frustrated last week with the heavy fog and the late start of the drive. Hopefully we can start earlier this Saturday, and benefit from the full time frame. If conditions are there, the plan is to start with the high dunes near the starting point, move in the direction of Old Lady Dune, cross to Al Ain Airport area, and exit close to Al Ain. I will update tomorrow, and indicate the convoy order by the end of the afternoon.

  33. @Alphin Aloor @Pascal@Rafey Hashmi@Richard Franks@Gautam Banka@Amr A@AlexM@Asif Hussain@Senthil Kumar@Ranjan Das@[email protected] Waitlisted: @Imran Asghar@Salim Akhtar As we have now 13 cars, and two waitlisted members, this will definitely be a challenge to make it across and execute the planned route. If anyone is willing and free to shift to the second convoy led by @GauravSoni (which has only 2 cars for now), please do let us know and you are free to shift to that convoy so ideally, we can balance out the total RSVP which will be more fun and will allow for a more fluid experience. In any case, as mentioned before, both convoys will be doing very similar routes, and will meetup the same evening at the camp site.

  36. Here is the easiest, fastest and safest way to fix a tyre pop out in less than 5 minutes: Tools required: Wooden plank/Jack board/plate Hydraulic Scissors Jack Air Compressor Shovel Water Steps involved: Move the vehicle "VERY SLOWLY" to flat ground. If you do it fast, then the inner (behind the tire) seam will also come out and make the pop out repair more difficult and sometimes impossible. Find a good jacking point and place a big wooden plank just under it - on perfectly flat ground. You can move the board a few times to flatten the sand so that jack sits on the flat ground. Place the jack on the board safely and lift the jack, just enough to regain the tire shape and then dig little under the tire. If you lift too much, then chances of tipping the jack are higher. Clean the open seam properly with water, run the fingers inside to make sure no sand is sticking inside the tire as that will leak the air while inflating. Inflate the tire with the air compressor and hold the open seam outward with little strength. Don't shake or use too much strength as jack might tip. When seam starts sitting in place, you will hear a loud/soft pop that means tire seam has been properly seated in its place and you can drive back normal. SAFETY WARNINGS: If you have a jack stand, use it under the axle. If you have a spare jack use it under the axle for safety. While the vehicle is lifted with jack, avoid any jittery move like slamming the door, closing the hood, getting in or out the car, this might cause jack to tip and cause serious injuries. While the vehicle is lifted with jack, NEVER EVER put your head, hand, legs or any body part under the car or under the tire. You can fix the tire from the side as shown in the picture above.
