  5. Dear Dune Surfers! Welcome to the First Edition of the Skill Drive series! @Morshedi @Shaker @Trekado @Imteeaz @Tom B @Joseph Raju @ASAD. @Senthil Kumar @Chris Wing @Charbel As mentioned in the Drive Post, the intention of the drive is to focus on the Ridge Riding skill. we would be entering near the construction area on Qudra road near the solar park. ( check meeting point ) and making our way to some comparatively big dunes with very soft slip faces. This area will offer some nice ridges to drive on however, the ridges can be deceiving due to recent high winds. we will be keeping safety as our 1st priority. Please confirm if there are any change in your plans so as to allow waitlisted members. @Thomas Varghese @salah2u i am working to see if i can include you in the drive. please confirm if you are willing to join. I will post the convoy order and radio channel details by evening.

  15. Well, as you will be having a lift, the tyres should not be rubbing against the fenders, so that issue is already solved. But from an aesthetical point of view, ET0 might be a bit too much, as the rims will really stick out a lot (unless you fancy that look, then yalla do it )

  16. Hi @Mike M. I agree with your below points: 1- I have to compensate the Center of Gravity for the 2 inch lift 2- Even if i keep my 18 wheels, i will have to install spacers to compensate for the 2" lift. I prefer to change the rims instead of adding spacers 3- Since i will change the rims, best is to downgrade for 17 so that i can get tyres with higher walls for footprint. In all cases, i have H/T Tyres now and i prefer to have A/T Tyres 4- Based on all the above, i am stuck at what Offset should the new rims be so that i tick point 1 above for the Center of Gravity and try to stay as close as OEM specs as possible. To offset the 2inch lift, you can go for new rims with ZERO offset. Similar thing was discussed here: Ideally you can check in a wheel shop and ask them to put a ET20 and ET0 rim on your pajero so you can determine which one suits best.

  20. Dear Dune Surfers, The Drive name says it all , the idea of this drive is to practice the skill and enjoy the thrill of riding on the Sand Ridges. This drive is Part 1 of 3 Skill Drive Series which will be posted in subsequent weeks depending on the Off road Plan with Carnity to balance all leads and drives to get as best possible a balance of variety in terms of challenges, drives, leads, terrains and areas. Part 1 - Ridge Rider Republic – Al Qudra – 14th May 2022 Part 2 - Criss Cross Country – Faqa ??– TBA Part 3 - Technical Terrain Transit - Will be posted in coming weeks All three are for Fewbie Plus and above only as we believe at this level you are well aware of your car, your driving style in sync with your car for these drives to learn, challenge and improve albeit safely. Please watch out for the subsequent parts in coming weeks and join in as per your availability. As the names suggest, we would be focusing on the Different skills for Dune surfing over the next few weeks. For Part 1 we will be driving in the long range dunes as much as possible. We will be taking the longer route from Qudra towards Lisaili which means we will be driving through area near Solar park and some technical patches to traverse between long range dunes hitting every ridge in safest way possible. Drive Time is expected to be 3 hours . We will be moving in parallel to the Dirt Track connecting Qudra to Lisaili in case of any early exits. We will specifically hit the areas in these terrains which will offer us maximum dunes for doing the drive purpose. Make sure you come with a full tank, Car in good conditions, recovery gear for this level (Radio, Flag, Deflator, Compressor, Kinetic rope and Soft shackles). Recovery points should be checked and in good conditions. It is preferable for the cars to have a front bash plate (6mm or more) to keep the radiator protected, if not it is at your own risk to join. We expect every member that joins this drive to go through below information and and strictly follow these guidelines in order not to jeopardize someone's health, and to ensure we can keep organizing these drives safely. 25. Almost all clubs I know of will require even the most experienced drivers to do their entry level drives first for assessment. This is for everyone's safety, and not intended as an insult to anyone's abilities at all.

  26. Thanks for sharing @GauravSoni. No, you are right. The OEM of Pajero is either 265/60/18 or 265/65/17. I am planning on getting the 265/70/17. But that wont impact much cause of the lift i am getting. Based on @Frederic's recommendation i am guessing both offset options of +20 and Zero are good options and should not be too far from OEM specs. I guess it will depend on the looks in the Tyre shop and naturally the availability of stock. Thanks again guys for all the help!

  27. @Mike M. no stability issues or vibrations that I have experienced till now… on road the body roll on corners is reduced… but still have to be careful on short radius turns above 80.. Yes, I wrote 60 instead of 65. Thanks for highlighting.

  28. Dear Desert Drivers @salah2u @Paolo Pellegrini @Emanuel @hugo @Jose Thomas @Rob S @Tareq Al Turq @Paolo Morresi @JERINE_B @JDub @Yesu Yarlagadda @Farook Veettil @Frederic I hope you're all excited and motivated for the drive tomorrow as I am. We will start from the Mahafiz area, facing the rising sun. This area has low longitudinal dunes, and a lot of (desert) vegetation. We might use portions of tracks to progress easier, in the direction of Fossil Rock, and we will find nice surprises en route. Reaching the restricted area of Fossil Rock, we will turn South for a very scenic portion, overlooking a deep valley with the view of Jebel Faya to our left. It will be a succession of bowls and ridges until we reach the high dune of Faya. We will explore the faces, looking for the best sand conditions for a few high climbs. Take as much rest as you can before the drive, you will need your full focus and concentration for the early morning ! The meeting is 5:30 am at https://goo.gl/maps/KMT4BMT3qd6xSAJS7 The convoy order will be We will use radio Channel 3 See you all tomorrow morning !

  29. Thanks @GauravSoni! The only thing i am going outside the book a bit is the wheel height as I plan on going for 265 / 70 / 17. The OEM of Pajero is 65 and not 70. With the lift that should not be an issue. Did you have any vibration or stability issues? haha! Yes, i prefer for the pajero to look beefed up a bit instead of a normal civilian. I plan on calling it The White Rhino once i am done with the mods I plan on doing. Maybe it will sway you back towards Pajero one more time haha! Yes, i prefer for the pajero to look beefed up a bit instead of a normal civilian. I plan on dubbing it The White Rhino once i am done with the mods I plan on doing. Maybe it will sway you back towards Pajero one more time

  31. Hi Mike, I have been through the same thought process yes... Firstly, you cannot put 17 inch tyres on 18 inch rims so if you decide to go that way (no need to though) you WILL be buying new rims. As for the tyre size? The resolution I came to was to go up a series on my standard rims, I bought Geolandars in 65 series which yielded a one inch (25 mm) overall lift in Diameter and a 5% increase in rolling diameter. Bare in mind this is on a 40mm EFS lift kit so the clearances are absolutely on the limit vis a vis inner guards. With your 50mm lift, you may well end up with greater clearance. The major benefits of going the way I did are: 1. cost saving on rims. 2. no need to alter the speedo drive as the 5% increase simply made the factory speedo 100% accurate. 3. ability to go back to standard series tyres (if I wish to regain the shorter gearing) without changing rims. The notable downside has been: 1. The car now needs to be in first gear for steep climbs, second gear will no longer do the job. 2. The car is slower to accelerate due to the increase in gear ratio 3. The awful fuel economy got even worse as I suspect the engine is working a lot harder to pull the higher gearing. Your results may vary!
