  1. Good morning all ! I hope you are all looking forward to this drive. The plan is to explore an area which is not often visited by offroaders, and i hope that means we can find some nice virgin dunes. @Stumpy Paj@DanielN@Hugo@[email protected]@Imran Asghar@Dinesh Kumar A@Andrei S@Pieter Potgieter@Ashutosh Garg@Amr Aydin@Vanessa8580 I have appointed each of you a totem animal that will keep you safe on the drive. We will be using Channel 2 - 446.031 Mhz. Please make sure to bring your offroad gears as per your level. If there are any changes in the convoy list or dropouts, we will alter the convoy setup if needed the same morning. See you all soon !

  9. @GauravSoni@LooperThis fewbie drive is an important one for me, as I see it as a test. I have been struggling with self confidence which reflected in my driving and my personal life. We all have such up and downs in our lives, I got my car, tyres and suspension checked by my garage. Since then my self confidence and driving improved. My flag pole fell off numerous times and got a new one fixed in the last weeks. I want to use this opportunity if I am ready for fewbie plus. I am hoping for a fabulous #GauravSoni drive where I know you will be pushing us!!! See you on Saturday morning!

  12. It's a good and safe practice to join a lower-level drive after a big gap and it's even more advisable when you have a change of vehicle too. As you have had 1 FB plus in Sep 2022, that's why Varun took this call, if it was 5-6 FB+ then it would have been passable but with caution.

  14. Dear Sand Sailors After more than 6 months, High Speed Drama series is back again to where it all started - Tawi Nazwa. Most of us have already been to Tawi Nazwa, clicked some nice pics on top of Pink Rock and had fun rolling through nice bowls that this area offers. It was all good for NB and FB drives. With this drive, we will take adventure to another level by adding lot more gas and thrill to this route well travelled. And to add to the drama, we aspire to climb all the way to the top of Big Red and have some fun around the place (ofcourse while ensuring Safety as our top priority). So get ready to make your engine roar and fulfil our Need For Speed. 20. @jodha singh shekhawat was lucky that his car didn't roll over but he found himself in this position because he disregarded the most important advice Marshals give before a drive - DON"T FIGHT GRAVITY. It was an intermediate drive and Jodha brought his new car without prior testing in the desert. My fellow off roaders please don't bring your newly acquired cars directly for higher classified drives without participating in Newbie, Fewbie drives with your new car prior to participating in Intermediate drives.

  21. In moments like this, where was the rope secured on the Patrol?
    1 point
  22. @Wrangeld you were very courageous to go under the tipped car which was unstable and attach the tow rope to its chassis so that @Alex Raptor could slowly winch him to safety. That was when I learned from you that a slanted car with engine running blows out a lot of smoke. You gave the explanation to that and I experienced the same when my car went into a limp mode recently and in slanted position. @Shaaz Sha was worried my engine was out but I assured him its all right and Richard has explained why this happens.

  29. Totally agree with @Foxtrot Oscar and @Nivin On the slip side of the dune “ mini” multiple fish tail cascade happens and this in particular need proper speed and steering control in synchrony , the slightest mismatch dictates exiting immediately . What I think his/her attempt to exit was late when the vehicle was already inclined more than 45 degree to over come the imminent flip

  30. Basic fighting gravity and fishtailing thus the roll. It is a classic how NOT to side slope. As soon as his back end starting going down he should have steered down.

  32. All Carnity trip leads and support are fully trained to respond to such emergencies. Securing the passenger first, then car recovery along with GPS location, pics and videos for the cops and insurance. Mostly cops check the images and video, but sometime they do visit the area of accident. Once cops report is done, rest is "should be" easy and straight forward with "good" insurance company.

  33. Agreeing to what Frederic said also sand fountain making is more higher in two wheel drive adding to the nonsense 😄 I believe it’s very dangerous to be in 4x2 in the sand as your front is always acting as a fulcrum to flip over , turn over .... and any thing which ends with over 😆
    1 point
  34. Driving offroad in 2WD mode indeed has no purpose, apart from the fact that they are able to show off and do more spins/donuts in the sand.
    1 point
  35. In my opinion he was fighting gravity..... not really sure what happened in the first instance but you can hear in the audio something the driver did wasn't correct (Also evident from the amount of sand behind).... As i learnt driving a Warngler they do fishtail and if you are not controlling the speed and direction you ask for trouble. to summarize my thoughts... he came in at a high speed (possibly crisscrossing the dune) and lost control (See the car's direction at 0.01 and 0.02 sec) then he tried to steer up (should have steered down instead) and with high speed his car fishtailed which just helped in flipping over

  36. Indeed very sad incident Dr @Mohamed Seidam. This is laziness or lack of knowledge which created such incident. The stuck vehicle did not budge an inch. The way the Patrol was stuck it would have been better to recover it from the other side. As we are unable to see the other side for any dangers, securing the rope with a heavy bag or a bungee cord could have saved the Hummer driver. Diging behind the wheels to create an easy path could have also saved the hard tugs. Such a hard tug is never recommended. Much better to have a few tugs of much lower intensity.

  37. When not having safe distance the reaction time is reduced substantially and the LC driver found him self in a no return point . it’s better to get stuck than to crash or from the start give proper time and distance for reaction please see below I didn’t get enough distance so I couldn’t steer down earlier nor I could over take for the fear of slipping on the vehicle in front of me so I preferred to stop . In the second clip I have enough time to react and decide ( I was a sec lead ) Cheers 🌷

  38. This is a good example of a timely reminder from @Foxtrot Oscarduring yesterday's Fewbie+ drive on not overtaking even if one is at risk of being stuck.
    1 point
  39. The white Landcruiser just made his turn and was starting the sidesloping when he suddenly noticed the car in front of him lost momentum. These things are a split second decision and he should have stopped and steered down, rather than overtake. A bit more distance would have helped him to have more time to react.

  40. Hi @AlexPol. Form a relationship with your vehicle, feel it as you learn how to drive. Let it be an extension of yourself. If you feel that your car needs harder suspensions than you are right and nobody can make a general statement on that. Harder suspensions do help with the traction on cross tracks and softer sand, but if the vehicle is your daily driver also the ride on the road is compromised.
    1 point
  41. Thanks @Rahimdad, @Gaurav and @skumar83. Very useful. Especially for off-road beginners. Does it mean that more hard suspension is more preferable for the dunes drives? Thanks.

  42. @Mohamed Seidam firstly thanks for posting on this subject, really appreciate your time and effort, it helps us remind and remember the basics. In my opinion, all 3 cars took a different line of approach, didnt follow the leader's track. they were focused on the video rather than track and off-roading (don't have flags, probably no radios, hence guessing just friends out for fun). lastly dont think they had checked or kept proper tyre pressure (trye tracks for Pajero and FJC looked deeper than the first track, could be just optical illusion for me).

  43. Let’s put “ Ego” aside momentarily , speed and approach to the ridge is fast and improper ( if I was in such speed I would slow gently without releasing the accelerator paddle , and won’t ride the ridge this way and steer left down . Now with “Ego “ or “overconfidence “ .. the driver decides to ride the ridge as such , now riding a long ridge in descend to me is more difficult than ascend as speed and control is extremely sensitive here to avoid fishtailing on the ridge which what happened with the driver , now trying to correct it in such speed let to initiate a second fishtail that aided the vehicle jump back to the side we see in the video and was about to flip , however input to the steering to avoid flip brought the third fishtail that driver couldn’t apprehend any more which lead to the sad roll over . what I learn is always sticks to the basics and try all your best play it safely and when it come to “ gut versus Ego” I will always choose what my guts tell me and just ignore the Ego and swerve it behind with big smile 😄

  44. Another one regardless of vehicle brand what has happened ? The first passed and the second got refusal hint : always remember desert means proper momentum along the right approach

  45. 8 10 drives is never enough it's a continuous learning process being in group drives you get to experience many aspects which you might not experience
    1 point
  46. @derik that's a very tricky question asked by you it's an individual choice whether you want to learn something new driving with a off road club or go to the same places with same old friends. When you drive in our club you get to know people from different nationalities and different modes of life and learn from their experiences. At carnity we are a family more than a club. As you get to know people in the club you will invite your friends too and you will be able to relate to your question and answer us with your feedback.👍
