  3. Drive Report

Give yourselves a round of applause, that was some great driving out there today! Yes, the sands were hardened by the rain fall, but they were also rutted, and disfigured with channels which were created by those very same.

It was also great that everyone had arrived in plenty of time and we were deflated, flagged and ready to go by 8.05! We entered the small dunes and readied our desert wheels, getting a feel for the sand and getting on top of some nice rounded dunes.  I threw everything at you at the start as we maneuvered our way through the dunes with smooth crossovers and gentle sides, keeping a watchful eye as we did so.

Having passed Pink Rock and content that you were all capable I added some masala, and after a short , safely distanced tutorial we made our way to the larger dunes and swept through the footdunes that lead to the majestic Big Red. Alas, we have to look on in awe these days, but the restrictions provided an unexpected bonus of very quiet sands.

In terms of feedback I would like to just say, please (at Newbie level) never try to self recover without a member of the support team to guide you, always keep a safe distance between cars and never apologise for a refusal. It’s how we learn!

Well done to the guys at the front @Yasirimam @Rasif ABDUL RAHIM @Ahmad Mehwi @Tareq Al Turq @Mo. @Sharat Nambiar , kept up with the pace and drove well. To the guys at the back who had a lot of big cars in front of them which makes it more challenging as the sands get churned up. @Faisal Alhashimi @ASAD. @takeshi sobue @Gerrit Bus and @Will Seivewright.

Many thanks to my support @Richard Franks for an excellent 2nd lead and to @Alain Canivet-Abikhalil for helping with the few recoveries we had.

Finally thank you to you all for listening, following instruction and being such a great convoy.

    Until our next adventure 😎

    Hi All,

Very useful post. Could see all the Xterra gang is on this thread..

I finally ended up getting an XTerra 2014 OR version recently. With all the above mods being suggested, can you also please suggest which garages specialize in Xterra modifications or checks.

I'm sifting through some of the old threads to gain more info on this. The one I bought does have a squeaking sound and I'm not sure if I need to get the shocks replaced.

Also, read in some thread by @Foxtrot Oscar that engine and gear mounts need to be checked for used Xterra's - good pointer, thanks.

Is there any garage/specialist in Dubai where I could get things checked out as well as eventually getting the required mods mentioned here?

    Thanks in advance..

Thank you again  @sertac@M.Seidam@Rizwanm2@Zixuan Huang - Charlie for all your recent feedbacks :)

Hey, and welcome to the club. I love my X. There's plenty of garages that are Nissan friendly , one man's specialist is another man's cowboy  so....

I'd find a good / trustworthy garage (recommendations) and have them do a full diagnostic on it for you, they'll let you know what needs done. When I first bought mine I needed to replace the engine mounts and the spark plugs.

Next up the the skid plate, make sure you get one that protects the radiator , and then get Yoko Geo A/Ts.

That's all you need for your X. Others add new suspension and have it lifted etc. I've never bothered with any of that and I can do anything in the sand that a modified X can.

Get ready to explore low level star shaped dunes in the glorious red sands of Tawi Nizwa. These wonderful dunes offer the opportunity to practice some more advanced off road driving skills and perhaps some steep climbs. It is the perfect training ground for mightier dunes that lie just across the road.

Had an amazing drive - Thank you @Foxtrot Oscar and @Jeepie for guiding us through the technical dunes and the ones on the side slopes and the crossings on top of dunes - they were adventurous. Also learnt a lot on shoveling techniques - "Keep hitting the Single spot". This was my first afternoon drive - the setting sun was harsh on some angles but it was completely worth it - the golden hour was picturesque.

Also thank you @Simon Claes - for picking my suction flag pole on our way back. I need to work on a clamp solution for the flag pole.

Haha I had forgotten about that. Yes, dig the same spot , let gravity do the work for you. Thanks for the help when we needed shovelling.

also sorry for constantly confusing you with Omar 🤦🏻‍♀️
