Hi everyone I increased the RSVP and we are going to split into 2 convoys for this drive. I am going to lead one and @Wrangeld is going to lead the other one.

A little late in the day for a post but better than never. It was long time since I drove here and was my first drive under the stewardship of @Hisham Masaad. This area is a spaghetti of tracks - you would be hard pressed to see even a single square foot of land which has not been used and abused and the fun is in navigating them masterfully. The specific characteristics of the Big Red area which are for our enjoyment are: Those medium sized dunes between camel rock and Big Red - it is fun navigating them at high speed non-stop You get to use your manual gear here - the automatic would not work all the time - especially on those tall dunes. And finally of Couse the Big Red and Camel Rock themselves. In this drive we did everything and more. and a big thanks to @Hisham Masaad to lead us on a wonderful trip round the area. All were present ahead of time and ready to go and we hardly had anything that can even be called refusals. Everyone gave their top performance and drove masterfully. Few observations - In the desert one needs to have a good distance between cars - which means you not only not drive too close to the car in front but also not too far away. I noticed a few were driving a bit too far from the car in front. Please be mindful that you might not only lose track of the convoy also in certain cases it can be troublesome because you will miss how a specific dune needs to be tackled. There are hundreds of permutations and combinations that affect a climb up the dune or navigate in the sand. There is a element of chance that everything falls into a perfect place, and you achieve great heights and often silliest of things go wrong and you don't. All I have to say here is don't worry - you will come here many more times - do it many more times as well. As you drive more and more you will learn to manage all those tiny permutations and combinations that can go wrong and achieve it - just give some more time. This is what I would do as a personal choice : 1. As Sree, suggested I would remove the back seats to reduce the weight in the car 2. I will not carry much firewood for the overnight camping 3. Food would be kept to what is needed for you and your passenger (if coming along). I generally prefer ready to eat food or some rolls, etc for such a trip rather than a barbeque (but that again is my personal choice mainly because I am a vegetarian). I have seen in the past people bringing a lot of stuff like foldable tables, huge vessels to cook food, etc - these are things that I would definitely avoid. 4. Check all the stuff in your boot and screen what is actually needed for this trip. Having said that I would not compromise on any kind of repair kit, recovery gear, extra fluids, etc. that would be needed in the case of an emergency. 5. Regarding Fuel, I would carry only what has been mentioned on the drive post. Also, to conserve fuel during the drive I would keep turning off my car when we are not moving. 6. In my car, I tend to carry a lot of stuff like brackets for mounting LED bars, bump stops, engine oil filter, extra air compressors. These are things that I would be removing for the Liwa trip. Like I mentioned in the beginning these are just my personal choices, but everyone needs to evaluate what is comfortable for them.

After reading your bare essentials I think I will wear my shorts 🩳 instead of jeans 👖 as that will reduce some grams off my 3.8 pajero 😎…..just kidding will take what is required by my car ….. thinking of the drive my tummy is rumbling 😅

However, since it FB+ drive, and depend on your family, hope they will not be disturbed, which will make you disturbed, and loose attention to the drive, causing usual refusal, stucks, and missing tracks. Hi @Taimur Khan Thank you for the intro and welcome to Carnity offroad club. The desert 🌵 has two faces certainly not the worst as long as we respect it’s strong Mother Nature mood and just glide along with it and never against it. In day one I broke my JGC radiator in a nose dive , however the “ desert bug “ sting effect was stronger than just to let go and here we go after 1.5 years in this lovely community every week we bounce on rubber almost “ropeless” Safety is all what we seek in any drive level we lead or support . in this forum you will find a plenty of materials to read which I recommend every one to do from time to time which I found extremely useful in this new world . best time drive safe . cheers Mohamed

@Taimur Khan I disagree with the title. 60 is not the new forty. Ask our veteran @Ashok chaturvedi or me. I'm not 60 but nearing to it. I feel I'm a teen at 18 when driving through the sand.

Hey Simon, I wrote post on prado here. Some links that might be helpful as you explore different tyre sizes, wheels and and wheel offsets. my initial thoughts are switching to 17s will give you better options on tyre choice and higher sidewalls. Switching to 17 off-road rim will likely give you a wider stance with 0 offset rims. Quick check on 2015 pajero is et46. So zero offset rims would move each wheel outwards by 46mm

1. The G012 is obsolete from what i've seen. The G015 is now the usual model. Both are A/T tyres. 2. On your Pajero 3.8, you will not be able to go below 17inch due to the front disc brakes. Cheapest option is to keep the original rims and get 18inch Yokohamas, better option is to swap the rims for 17inch (mitsubishi or aftermarket) and go for Yokohama with bigger sidewall as it will have less chance of pop-outs. 3. If you have already a lift kit, yes it would make sense to go for the 265/65/18 as it has more sidewall. That model of Yokohama might be bit more difficult to find. Hi Guys, Till this moment i am using my HT goodyear tires, but i think i have reached to a level that i need to give my car engine a little bit of support and grip. so, i am planning to change my tires to Geolander A/T tires but i have the following questions in my mind: 1. should i go with G015 or G012 as both of them are A/T tires ? 2. my current car rims are 18 inch, should i invest in smaller rims( 15" or 16") or 18 is ok. 3. i already have 3inch lift kit , if i decide to keep the 18inch rims should i go to higher tires (265/65/R18) or is it not recommended ( my current tire size is 265/60R 18 ) . thanks in advance

@Simon Dawood I also have a Pajero LWB 2011. I changed to Yoko AT GO15's (from HT's) last year, and am extremely happy with them - 265/60 R18's. Should have done it sooner. Great even onroad, with a minimum of road noise, and only then, after 110km p/hr. Manufactured in Thailand, Japanese ones not available anymore in the market from what I understood. I don't have any lift on my Pajero, so some type of limit there. Will defer to @Frederic 's advice and comments. Some in the group have asked me if I've had any issues with the 18inches - none so far. After 34 drives, only one pop-out. I don't ever go lower than 12PSI though. As @Frederic has mentioned, supply was an issue (with the 18inch) Yokos when I bought them, although did manage to find them at the Yokohama showroom/agency (others had one or two; I was looking for five including the spare) in Al Khabaisi, behind the car showrooms (close to DXB airport). They had literally been manufactured 2 months before my purchase. Hope this helps...

Suggestion: remove the car seats at second row and third row to keep it more lighter..

A bit late in the day for my thoughts on the drive but, nevertheless. It was my second newbie drive with @Islam Soliman but first one driving myself. As usual we started with an elaborate briefing by the lead and wonderful weather to drive that day. Margham area presents a unique landscape where one hone their off-road skills and boy we did practice a lot. While off-roading you not only get to know your car, but the car gets to know you. It's not just poetic to say so - because it is a fact. You learn to what extent you can push it and how to push it. You know how it behaves in certain situations and manages it. Similarly, your car learns from you what you expect and gradually both the car and the driver become one. There were some refusals along the way, but they were good refusals in my opinion. Better to get stuck while going slow to cross a dune than to go fast and fly off the other side. Because it is safer to gradually increase the speed than to be at high speed and get into trouble and then try to reduce it. First of all, a big thanks to @Islam Soliman for a great fun drive. @Suresh K you did well as the second lead and @Sharat Nambiar as the sweep. It was great to drive with you @Haitham Khattab, @Serhat Yalcinkaya, @Krishna R, @Mahmoud Taha, @karim hamandi, @Awais Zuberi and @Yesu Yarlagadda (also congratulations are in order on your promotion). See you all soon in another drive.

Hi Islam, I actually prefer to be on this drive and I only reserved on the night drive because this one was fully booked by the time I got around to it. I am happy to remove my RSVP from the night drive if it gives me a better chance here, knowing full well that I might lose both if I don't get picked up from the WL here. I bought mine from Authorized dealer. I was offered service contract and got to see the different variants. I had visited one of the off-road garage but was not convinced as they were offering the modifications as per the brands of shocks and tires they deal with. After buying it from the authorized dealer I could pick and choose with my requirements. But did off-roading for 5 months without any modifications and took slow steps with the modification.

@Hisham Masaad looking forward to the drive on Friday! Just confirming the timing - seems the drive is 3 hours (as opposed to the regular 4 hours), starting 7am until 10am. The reason I ask is that I have work after the drive - 10am finishing is good for me, but 11am would be pushing it. So, just confirming the times mentioned are correct, and we are aiming for a 10am finish?

Mystery Drive - Report "Listen to silence. It has much to say" - Rumi A much delayed report, due to work commitments, where the fun of the mystery drive can finally be recounted. In fact, silence spoke very loudly throughout the drive. It indicated that all were concentrated, and most of all, that nothing warranting support, digging work, or a tugging job, was in demand. After all, my definition of a fun drive, includes seamlessly driving through diverse terrains, at the fastest possible speed that security allows, taking one's mind off any other daily matters, to thoroughly enjoy the landscape, the technical challenges, and the achievement of covering as much "unfriendly" ground as possible, in the most efficient way. The itinerary took us through a new sector of the so called "Middle Earth" (the sand cordons sandwiched between Solar Park and the E14), to a middle entry into Little Sweihan's tall and sinewy dune canyons, which we drove through three times, in all directions, prior to reaching the sabkha that connects this area to Faqa, and the AD border. It was decided to extend the drive to reach the Dubai-Al Ain road, through the yellow sand dunes next to the newest Solar Park development (yes, #4 reaches all the way to Faqa), rather than the more usually travelled Faqa district itself. The extra challenge in choosing this little travelled areas came from the fact that we had to make progress mostly from the slip face sides of the dunes, except the very last 10 minutes of the drive. These slip faces were even more difficult to cross, due to a strata of soft, powdery sand, that had deposited itself onto the ridges, following the windy weeks that preceded the drive. That actually didn't stop the convoy from moving, but made me come down from a few ridges, being "rejected" by the soft sand, back down the slope, to look for a more approachable crossing point. Great driving by the whole convoy, with a well executed Second Lead by @Thomas Varghese, an efficient anchoring by @Jorge Stepniak Felippe, a clean sweep by @Dodi Syahdar, and a very proficient performance by @Charbel, @Zixuan Huang - Charlie, @Anoop Nair, @Chris Wing, @Pacific and @Rawad. Thank you all so much for joining me in my 100th Carnity lead, and for making it a silent, yet very eloquent, virtually perfect drive. See you soon out there.
