Dear Desert Drivers @Shaaz Sha @Emanuel @Jessica Lambert @Suresh K @Salim Akhtar @Federico Galbieri @Adam James @JERINE_B @Haitham Khattab @JDub @Tareck I hope you're all excited and motivated for the drive tomorrow as I am. We will start from the Mahafiz area, facing the rising sun. This area has low longitudinal dunes, and a lot of (desert) vegetation. We might use portions of tracks to progress easier, in the direction of Fossil Rock, and we will find nice surprises en route. Reaching the restricted area of Fossil Rock, we will turn South for a very scenic portion, overlooking a deep valley with the view of Jebel Faya to our left. It will be a succession of bowls and ridges until we reach the high dune of Faya. We will explore the faces, looking for the best sand conditions for a few high climbs. Take as much rest as you can before the drive, you will need your full focus and concentration for the early morning ! The meeting is 5:30 am at https://goo.gl/maps/KMT4BMT3qd6xSAJS7 The convoy order will be We will use radio Channel 2 See you all tomorrow morning !7 points

By offroading and modifying the car you will only find the ride quality getting worse and worse. I would keep the JGC onroad and spend 20 to 30 for a offroad toy, now it's off season, you may find many killer deals. I drive Pathfinder but recommend Xterra offroad version7 points

Many thanks to @Wrangeld, who has volunteered to split the convoy. I will add the WL members to rsvp.6 points

hi @Siddick Sait thanks for your query . I have faced similar dilemma when I started off-roading . I own V6 JGC and man this car is one of a kind really . I brought it one time to desert and was the last too when I did my first AN after which I realize to continue it needs some modifications which I didn’t want to do and kept it for the family and maybe the way to Qudra lakes with family . then I got eventually my Xterra 2012 as my weekly desert toy and daily rider to the hospital “!dual purpose car “ as I didn’t want to get a third car . I chooses the Xterra because I wanted to keep it as stock as possible to serve the purpose and eventually I got the best of the two worlds .4 points

Hi All, Thanks for your response. It was very helpful and it helped me in seeing the very obvious : LR + 12 years old + 220K = Money pit. Thanks @Gaurav for the formula. It seems I have two options now: 1. Spend 20 to 30 K and get an off roader which may serve your off roading purpose but which you may not be happy to drive around. Candidates for such option are Pathfinder, Xterra etc. or 2. Spend 50 to 80 and get something which will be good off roader and also serve as day to day vehicle. Options are Toyota FJC, Wrangler or even a Pajero. And probably Prado LC150 (not sure price range of LC150). My need is not only for desert drive but also in Wadees and camping and need ample space to carry stuff. My current JGC overland with V8 5.7 fits the bill but not confident it will handle regular off roading especially with air suspension. Hopefully I will get some advice during this Saturday newbie drive from @Brette who also drives JGC. Meanwhile thank you all for your responses.4 points

LR4 early models only offered v8 5.0, if it's v6 then it's a LR3 face lifted to LR4's look. 15 to 18 will be ideal cost for a LR3 v6. Sell JGC and get a Prado LC150 for onroad and offroad 😁😁4 points

I absolutely loved the LR4, the drive and ride qualities are simply superb, not to mention road presence. owned one - 2015 model and was so much in love with it that I swapped it for LR Discovery in 2019 which i eventually swapped it for Jeep 😎 Even with all the warranties and maintenance contracts, LR is pricy - i can't imagine owning one without them. and if you are planning it to be also your ride to the deserts you will be disappointed after newbie level - LR4 is not for the sand (the reason I have a Jeep now!)4 points

Ahoy Sand Sailors Thanks a lot for RSVPing for the drive, looking forward to see you all on sand. There are numerous stories, legends associated with the track we plan to follow, more on that will share later - let the mystery stay for another couple of days. Will it be fast or will it be furious (or maybe both) we'll see on Sunday, either way, we will surely have lots of fun. . @Hisham Masaad has agreed to leave his fav domain in Sharjah to join us for this drive - looking forward to see his FJ cruse through dunes of Qudra. And we will be supported by @Davie Chase whose shiny new shovel and viking rope is all set for the drive. Thanks Davie. Timing plan (just in case this helps anyone make their decision) - We plan to start to move with the first ray of sunlight at 5:30am. So, all please plan to reach on time in order to be delfated, flagged up and all set by 520am, following which we will have a briefing and will start to move sharp at 5:30am Since, we have quite a few Sailors in WL, just to ensure we don't lose out on a slot, please confirm your availability for the drive. @DP1011 , Deepak wrangler @Tareq Al Turq @Gregory @Sudhanva Sonawane @Mahmoud Taha @Warren Flay @Pieter Potgieter @Quresh Pajero @Adam James @Paolo Morresi WL order is as below, please share your confirmation as well, so as to evaluate options. WL 1 : @Reggie Landicho WL 2: @Jona WL 3 : @Amr Aydin WL 4 : @salah2u Thanks again and looking forward to see you all on sunday.3 points

@Sunil Mathew can you also tell where one might get these hydaulic oils? I don't think you guys buy in the qautities we are looking at. My Jack too has gone kaput and needs to be filled. There are Jack oils available but couldn't find anything that's on Amazon Prime.3 points

Forgot once to close tight the screw after use of jack, just to find hydraulic fluid was lost, making jack not useful. DIY, Google for hydraulic fluid, opened the Jack at home and the fluid chamber with vegetable oil. It works, last I used when someone pop out.2 points

I wish i have your luck with the drives 😂2 points

Totally agree with Charlie for saving JGC comfort and reliability for the road than tinkering and modifying for off-road which is another level of money pit until you reach the desired goal. The second advantage is to split the money into separate offroad toy if that is down after an incident then you still have a road car for office use. You may find clean Xterra soon in under 20K budget during June - Aug (off-season).2 points
