  1. Thanks for reminding me @Sunil Mathew, i forgot to mention both @Imran Kashif & @Haitham Khattab in my post. Absolute gems these two both on and off the wheel, thanks again guys. And just an update on the car, this morning went to the workshop. Looks like the fan clutch jammed and and at high speed, the fan just broke off. They will change the clutch and fan assembly. Thankfully it did not damage the radiator or any other major parts so hopefully the Prado will roar back again sooner than i thought it would πŸ˜„.

  2. Whenever buying a second-hand vehicle, it is essential to do some research on the history of that particular vehicle to see if it was involved in accidents in the past. There are a few options: 1. International - VIN Report VIN Check and get Vehicle History Report | Free VIN Search (faxvin.com) There are several available websites for this. You will be able to see if the vehicle has been involved in accidents. This is definitely useful if the vehicle has been imported from another country like US. 2. UAE - Ministry of Interior Accidents Inquiry Ministry of Interior MOI - Accidents Inquiry This portal service shows the accident history stored in the Federal UAE database. For each accident it will show you photos and information about the severity. 3. UAE-Dubai RTA Vehicle Status Report RTA - Services Will provide you a detailed report with the odometer reading, previous inspection history, or accidents. Using these services will give you a good background on the second-hand vehicle you are about to buy, and if the car has been involved in serious accidents.

  3. well it's now over 48hrs, and I did go to the doctor per @Gaurav & @Srikumar's recommendation. Doc said since no vomitting, no broken ribs, no blurry vision and no pain whatsoever, she declared me fit to drive & work again πŸ™‚ I would rather focus on the positive things and the good lucks, so here they are: alhamdulillah I managed to return home unharmed, thanks to every single one in the convoy, I pray God bless you all for your kindness. thanks to my trip marshal @Srikumar for leading the team during the incident. There were other younger blood he could direct & delegate to, but he chose to unroll his sleeves and in the process hit his head against my rear bumper (luckily it's stock fibre... imagine if it's the Y62 with 4mm steel 😱) it was good luck @Haitham Khattab pushed himself to join the drive eventhough he overslept and started driving at 5:30am. For his presence helped a lot, as we needed an Arabic speaker to translate and bridge the communication with the police. i had a nice recovery driver who shared me his Naan & vegetables lunch in short, eventhough it was an unfortunate incident, I am thankful and happy with the people who surrounded me & helped. Thanks for asking @Tom B @Rob S @ASAD. , not my first rollover with perfect landing on all 4 wheels, so the shocks were subdued a bit πŸ˜…, but nevertheless humbles and amazes me how we're given second..eh i mean... fourth chance. My wife reminded to watch the latest Puss in the Boots movie πŸ˜‚ And this is the finale good news: only Windshield (500dhs second-hand) + Front Right Fender (300dhs second-hand) + Front Right Passenger Door (300dhs second-hand) are badly damaged. According to the Denting Specialist, the roof can be fixed without replacing the whole roof. I'll probably start a thread on the LC 10K bring-to-life restoration project πŸ˜„

  4. Wonderful to know that you are perfectly fine and it's good news that the LC repair is not extensive. Look forward seeing you on the sand soon Zeddy. Take care

  5. It was a very eventful drive, to say the least, but as is with @Carnity, we all come out stronger at the end of the day. It was a sheer display of leadership, commitment , quick thinking and kudos to @Srikumar @Waqas Parvez @Tom B @Rob S for handling the situation(s) with absolute level headedness!! and @Imran Kashif @Haitham Khattab always ready with their helping hands for @Zed and ASAD Al Wagan and Pajero bowl, both were firsts for me, and i had never heard of these places until last week. Pajero bowl seemed to be challenging for me , as i started the run on first gear and kept hitting the rev limiter and losing the line on my first round and continued without crossing over, when Sri prompted me to upshift , i felt the strong lurch forward and improved momentum with which i could easily cross over and exit. I always though that an upshift would only slow me down due to reduced torque, so it was a good learning experience/paradigm shift. Good to see Angela @Foxtrot Oscar, back in action and hope to drive on one of your "Yalla" drives soon ... looks like its time to change your profile to "Dangerous Woman" or even Delta Whiskey, courtesy the AlAin cops , ........our @Tom B was almost certain that he would be forced to sell his LC to the guy, or else they would just confiscate it and put him in jail We made the best of the afternoon , finding some great rolling dunes where we all were at our bests, just flowing along the bowls, climbing, criss crossing our way freely , when @ASAD. had his issue ...breaking the cooling fan of a Toyota Prado, a rarity in itself , but stuff happens !! hope its sorted soon and see you on the upcoming liwa crossing . Good to drive again with @Anoop Nair, a long time carnity mate , see you soon on the liwa crossing if all stars align, that is!!

  6. @Zed you have inspirational spirit. But more than you, i want to salute your wife who still lets you drive πŸ˜… See you and the LC soon InshAllah.

  7. that's the difference between Torque and Horsepower bro, once your torque is maximized, to move the car faster you need the wheels to spin faster, which can only be done with higher gears. When you're climbing uphill it's best to stay 1st Gear as any upshift will actually slow you down. But when you're on a flatter surface, side-sloping or circling a bowl, it's safe to upshift without losing momentum: this will make your car run faster and u gain more momentum to cross. The balance is to get the right speed... too fast and you may crossed unintentionally (which i'm also guilty of) πŸ˜‚

  8. @Sunil Mathew thanks for this insight mate. I had similar issues the week before when i kept trying to push the Y61 in 1st gear around the bowl; i kept losing momentum. At one stage i upshifted (2nd gear) and the whole truck reacted in an unbelievable manner, and i managed to keep momentum and speed to go around the bowl (twice). Same like you, i am still learning to drive around bowls; once the engine starts screaming for the 2nd gear (or the rev limiter kicks-in), upshift and then fly (literally). Cheers

  9. I don't think there is much more for me to add after @Srikumar 's drive report, and @Foxtrot Oscar, @Tom B and @ASAD. I didn't realize on the day, but this full day drive was my 60th drive with Carnity . . . . . who could imagine less than 14months ago I had never got behind the wheel of a 4x4! Testament to the skills taught and learnt during Carnity drives and the amazing Toyota Prado (with only minor modifications!). @Zed I hope you are doing well and see you again in the deserts soon. @ASAD. fantastic job as SL and hope the car is repaired swiftly! @Vaibhav shame you were unable to join us, its been a while since we had the whole gang on one drive. @Waqas Parvez great job supporting through the various challenges! Thanks again @Srikumar, look forward to joining your next adventure! PS. @Srikumar I have your initial pajero bowl escape but its to big to share on whatsapp!

  15. First of all thanks a lot @GauravSonifor organizing mid week drive. It was my first mid week drive and thanks to the nature to show her beauty especially when @premindra rajaram got stuck. Thank you Premindra to force Gaurav Soni to hold the Convey πŸ˜€. After the drive it felt like a morning workout + meditation session, it felt so fresh to focus on work. As usual the drive was packed with full pace and technical, I guess we completed the drive as per the plan in a short time, only the last 2% was bit of a challenge. But as a fewbie I learnt a lot. Thanks for the opportunity on second lead. @DP1011 , Deepak wrangler special thank for keeping the convey safe at sweep position. The vibe of the drive and people was well matched and looking forward to accompany you all. Thank you @premindra rajaram @Pranjal Varsani1 @Krishna R @DP1011 , Deepak wrangler @GauravSoni for giving opportunity to drive along with you guys.

  16. Trip Report: Better late than never. Watching the sunrise during the "Winter" days in UAE have become an Addiction for me and it is a different feel sharing this happy moments with likeminded individuals. Thank you @Tharun Kumar V @premindra rajaram @Pranjal Varsani1 @Krishna R @DP1011 , Deepak wrangler for joining and being on time. We had a quick briefing and headed straight to the dunes riding small ridges, side sloping to find our way to a nice dune as the color of the sky changed from dark to light pink/amber. This was a warmup where i pushed you guys on some serious maneuvers where each one drive brilliant. 30 mins into the drive, thanks to @premindra rajaram getting stuck on ridge, we got the perfect place to put our cars on the slope and enjoy the sunrise with some hot "Halwa" (that was amazing surprise Deepak!!) and coffee giving time to discuss aspects of Ridge riding and the safe ways of tackling the slopes. We then made our way towards the long range of Lisaili dunes and saw amazing view of Hot air Balloons within distance hovering so close the ground. we decided to chase them out and soon we were near the landing zone with some withing arms distance from our convoy. It was amazing to experience the blend of Man & Machine working in harmony to help you experience Nature in its best moments. Around 8:15 am we decided to take the exit route through a small patch of what turned out to be the longest part of the drive. as we were moving though last 100 meters close to the exit, we had Deepak caught up in crest unable to move. Pranjal stayed with him as the first 4 cars came out of the technical area. I decided to go back and check on the situation and found Him crested sideways and Pranjal ready to give him a tug. As soon as he moved , he got stuck on the a slip face and then burried deep ( his low gear apparently was not engaged). i then moved my car to get Pranjal out and voila! we had our third car stuck!!( myself). The small area looked firm but had some nasty surprise for us. After few minutes of self recovery attempts to no avail. i called Krishna and Tharun back to our position to plan the recovery of the three cars. its amazing @DP1011 , Deepak wrangler that we used 1 ,2 and 3 ropes for getting first you, then my car and then pranjal out! good learning for all of us and some brilliant teamwork. Thanks @Tharun Kumar V for a brilliant 2nd lead and thanks @DP1011 , Deepak wrangler to join at the last hour and sweep the convoy safely. you all drove good , taking some very important learning out of the drive ( including myself). See you all soon in sand!

  28. Another great morning out with Carnity Family ! It was fantastic to meet you all again in the sand ! With @Melenany , @Hisham Masaadand @Abdelghani as my sidekicks i knew we could do anything. It was great meeting you again after a long time. @Sajan.S was our only Absolute Newbie but after a couple of dunes became more comfortable and you drove superb for your very first drive ! Hope to see you soon again. Most hitch receiver that are for sale are 2 inch, for the explorer this is less so it might be a little bit more difficult to find the right type. We had a driver with us last year @Asem Rashwan who had below setup: You do not need the towball, but more importantly with this setup we can put a soft shackle around that middle shaft. Please have one installed before your second drive. @babaski @Arsalan Ehsan@Ishak@Bravoecho@Theo09@Abdelghani@Frans M@Quresh. @Stumpy Paj you guys managed whatever i threw at you like champs. We kept it on a gentle pace to make sure everyone was comfortable and we could enjoy the fantastic weather and scenery. I hope you all enjoyed it. @GauravSoni and his superb convoy arrived just after us, and it was great to see such a large group (25+ cars) all together and Carnity was in full strength that morning. Thanks again buddy for taking on the second convoy so everyone had a great morning out. See you all in the sands soon again !

  34. A great post @Frederic. Thanks a lot. It will definitely help everyone to check the status for cars when they look to buy one. My old Santa Fe had a parking lot accident where it was hit by a delivery van while it was parked - literally a fender bender. Checked but did not find any report on the MOI. Perhaps it only reports larger accidents or accidents other than in Dubai.
