It was a wonderful morning and I personally enjoyed every bit of the drive despite of the scorching heat towards the last hour of the drive with temperatures climbing very fast beyond 48 degrees.
@Davie Chase you already blew up the curve mate 😂 a natural lead with fantastic lines and balanced level for everyone to enjoy, learn, and grow some muscles too 💪
The whole convoy did very well overall and I liked the teaming spirit.. everyone rolling up their sleeves to support when needed
Congratulations @Haneef Thayyil for completing your first Fewbie drive. You had the biggest share of stucks and refusals plus a pop out today so thanks for giving us the chance to practice all techniques 😂😂.. Jokes aside, you did very well and I could notice after each one how more confident you become, better in following instructions, and getting the art of taming the mighty power of your beast to work for you..always remember STEERING is your best friend.
@Alphin Aloor very well done overall.. I was jumping from joy watching you self recover at that soft spot.. a role model .. BRAVO.
everyone else drove very well and I hope you all enjoyed it as much as I did.
@Benjamin great support throughout the drive.. your presence and coolness in every situation assessing, guiding, and executing different recovery techniques is highly commendable.. keep it up my friend.
can’t wait to have the pleasure of driving with all of you again!

Nice project @Stumpy Pajthanks for sharing.. how did you engineer the ventilation of the compressor to ensure it doesn’t overheat specially in summer with excessive use ? Also, I assume you are not relying on the standard 12v outlet to feed the compressor, not sure the standard wiring is good enough for the high amps drawn by the compressor

Very well written @Benjamin.. one word of advise is to secure CID approval prior to starting any color change as in many cases they will request the car to be brought for inspection and if the color is changed already from what is recorded in Mulkia it can complicate things.. bare in mind that the main purpose of the CID preapproval is to ensure the owner is not changing the color to hide something (hit and run or other major offense) so if they are suspicious for any reason and color is already changes it can be a big problem

On 5/9/2023 at 3:32 PM, Patrick said:Hi Fred, thanks for your reply. Other clubs have "upgrade trips" where actual skills are demonstrated and assessed by one or more marshalls in the convoy.
Yet at another club there is a system in place where 1 marshall can nominate a member for upgrade, and 2 other marshalls have to agree/vote before the upgrade takes place.
I think Carnity works well for members who a) have never done any desert driving (so real newbies), and b) do not drive with other clubs concurrently. For members who have prior experience or who drive with other clubs it might not be so suitable. Or just go through the grading structure and accumulate credits.
There are a number of members I know drive for other clubs, so I am not alone in my opinion.
The members are there, but may not speak up.
Agreed that number of drives does not equal experience and well noted on self-declaration. However a system of testing/demonstration as in an "upgrade trip" might be interesting to consider so that members are placed in the correct level.
Nevertheless, I do not think that will happen but thought I will voice my opinion.
Hi @Patrick .. really appreciate the feedback and @Carnity is always open to learn and adapt best practices to always keep the drives and experience better every time of everyone in the @Carnity family .. rest assured that # 1 to 100 priorities for all of us are SAFETY & FUN and hitting the right BALANCE is our ultimate North Star .
What you see today in the grading structure is a model that matured over several years with 100s of good (and bad) experiences and feedback gathered from all members throughout all drives and then was subjected to thorough analysis debate between marshals and crew to conclude on what fits best to get us to that North Star.
For example, sometime back we adopted that Upgrade Drives for some levels, however the experience proved it brings more bad than good accordingly it was dropped.
Every decision and specially promotion goes through a rigorous system to ensure skills, safety, comms, attitude, team work, … etc are assessed by different leads and support members (all of whom are volunteers by the way) and we do our best to ensure fairness and no bias.
However, like everything in life, it’s impossible to achieve 100% and there is always room for improvement.. more importantly we all appreciate one size will never fit all so as we always say in the briefings we expect everyone to raise their tolerance, & patience and focus more on having fun while enjoying the company, adventure, and nature.

Outstanding news.. congratulations @Ale Vallecchi.. you have been a beacon and true coach throughout my off-road journey since the start and am sure this applies to many others who had the privilege of following you on the sand.. thanks for being such an amazing Offroader and leader.

I don’t recommend relying on network connection for maps and navigation specially if you are venturing on unfamiliar remote areas.. ensure you have offline maps downloaded and test it before stepping 🛞 on the sand
For voice, all will fail at a point in time and you should rely on your off-roading skills and experience and teamwork.. the very reason we always advise against venturing solo or without the right experience, support team, and appropriate tools

@Islam Soliman thanks for a very entertaining Saturday morning in the dunes, really loved this drive having a little of everything to get the newbies juices flowing for the next levels of drives.
@Benjamin williams well done as second lead keeping us all on the correct track and stopping when required for Islam to reroute, well done.
@Nicholas Cox1 great job in the sweep position Nick keeping us informed about the tail end of the convoy.
The rest of the team drove exceptionally well so well done to you all @Hashem Rihan@Rk ram @sohinik @Shinebabu @GeorgeFJ @Ahmad Quadri @Hashem Rihan @L. Petelczyc @essam ibrahim @Theo09 @Nadeem Ansari. We had a few stucks and refusals but you all did amazingly well to stay calm whilst exhibiting some great self-recovery skills. I hope you all had as much fun as i did and that you enjoyed the experience especially the absolute newbies who did extremely well.
Remember getting stuck and having refusals is all part of the learning and turns us from good off roaders to even better offroaders :):)
Fully agree @Davie Chaseon all what you said about SL with one exception; it was @Rk ram not @Benjamin williams!
this is what happens when you have 3 drives in a row 😂😂😂😂

First time with Carnity Off-road Club:
Drive Details
Level: Absolute Newbie / Newbie and above (all levels)
Meeting time: 05:30 AM (SHARP - Without any exceptions)
Meeting Point: https://goo.gl/maps/ZikRWU1YYas968yT9
Action Plan: A drive planned to bring back the necessary off-roading skills, brushing off the rust accumulated with a few weeks of summer holidays. Three hours of "class", divided into three parts: the first hour dedicated to bringing back one's feeling with the sandy surface, practice convoy discipline plus some straight crossings, the second hour focused on more technical driving, re-acquiring the finesse needed to navigate some tighter spots, and the third hour to practice side sloping and eventually safe criss-crossing. Before departing, we'll spend some time going over the basic notions of desert driving, with a detailed technical briefing.
Type of Car: Any proper 4x4 with front and back tow hooks and 8-10 inches of ground clearance.
What to bring along: Loads of water, snacks (for yourself), smiles, face mask, rubber gloves, enthusiasm and willingness to learn.
Approximate finish time: 09:30 AM
P.S. Only join if you have a compressor to inflate your tires after the drive.
