Popular Post Wrangeld
Good morning Desert Fewbies, @Kailas, @Lisa Pemberton, @Tamas Hoffmann, @Islam Soliman, @Jeandre Bezuidenhout, @Mehmet Volga, @luwaimn, @Lorenzo Candelpergher, @Vineeth John Joseph, @Jorge Stepniak Felippe, @Jeepie, (reserve list: @Jun Zamora, @Miguel Ibarbia, @Hennie Schoeman, @Sreejith Sreenivasan) For some of you, this will be our first Fewbie drive together, for some, we already ventured out into the sand before. @Lorenzo Candelpergher and @Mehmet Volga had the 'ignominious' pleasure of attending the last Lisali adventure - so have an idea of the potential perils of this area as well as the potential fun, when we get it right. Not many Fewbie drives start in Lisali because there is a treacherous, technical set of dunes that must be crossed before we hit the incredible wide high dunes hidden behind. The rewards, once we pass the technical dunes are the ability to drive all the way from Lisali to the long dunes of Qudra, time and convoy permitting. The landscape is stunning, and unlike so many of the areas we drive at the moment, has little in the way of vegetation, so we can enjoy a fast pace and high sweeping dunes where we can practice slide sloping and criss crossing to our hearts' content all the way to Solar Park and beyond. It is my hope that we can use this drive to practice and hone some dune crossing techniques. We will remind you that straight up and over is still an option as well as looking at ways to practice some criss crossing and ridge riding. Those technical dunes - if we get it right, we are all over them quickly and without too much drama (Lorenzo and Mehmet, I have a new tried and tested route through so do not worry we are going the same way), but I do want to stress that learning how to navigate through technical dunes is an incredibly important skill in 4x4 driving. We will not always have easy tracks and wide dunes in which to play. Which translates to, if we do get stuck, then fine, we will find our way out and you will get valuable lessons on an important skill. As ever, there will be more updates during the week on what to expect and the convoy make up. Finally, a request made on behalf of the 4 people sitting in the waiting list: If you are not coming to the drive, let us know early so that the club members whose fingers or mouse was not as quick as yours, can get a drive. See you soon in the sand. 7 4 2
