  2. Hi All,

Thanks for the great Absolute Newbie drive yesterday. We covered a great track that was not easy and simple. Yes, we had some stucks, but that's totally expected on this type of introductory drive. Myself and @Alex Raptor really enjoyed meeting you all and were impressed in what we saw.

Also a special thanks to the portable shovel, the fantastic @Danish Mohammad - your assistance was amazing and truly appreciated.

Some specific feedback from what I picked up:

@Fauzia Parveen - you really needed to get out of the passenger seat sooner. You've learned a lot from sitting there, which is why it was good to have you as a 2nd lead - you understand what's going on in a convoy and what needs to be managed. Your confidence will grow.

@Imteeaz Goolamhossen - just watching the constant smile on your face the whole drive was an absolute pleasure. It looked like you and your boys are really going to get involved in this new hobby together, and based on this showing, I think that you will be scaling heights soon. Great start, keep it up.

@Harshad Ashraf - You've got the land cruiser well under control on this showing. I think this was an excellent first drive. Patient, controlled, careful. I like the way you manage the vehicle and the care you take with the long overhangs on the car.

@VIJAYA KUMAR DOPPA - Apologies for confusing you with Marcin on one or two occasions. You had a few stucks and recoveries where you managed the challenge, some where you needed to listen more closely to what was said. Following instructions is an essential part of the team work. I think that as a beginner, when you have more than one stuck you start to feel guilty and then want to hurry recoveries because you think that you are holding up the convoy. You are not. Everyone is learning, even from what you are doing.

@Shams Bin Majeed - so glad you got your chance in the Land Rover this week. I think you need to sort out issues around how the gearing works and maintaining the high and low ratios in place as that impacted a few of the stucks during the drive. I felt you have a good control of power and when to use it.

@Vishal Nair - big black brand new Pajero and it left as beautiful as it arrived, so a great job there. Nice first drive. Well controlled and managed throughout. Keep it up.

@Kaleem Ur Rahman - once you start to fully appreciate the benefits of the Prado this hobby will bite you and you will not be in a position to escape again. This was a good introduction from you, showing that you will grow in ability efficiently the more you drive.

@Sibin Nellissery - Our third FJ and at the back of the pack is never an easy place to be. You handled the problems well and in particular the recovery by Alex which could have been challenging. the FJ is a great tool (see other comments here to the owners) and I think you really showed a sensitivity and control to the way you drove. Well done.

@Claire Adshead - always brave to come on a drive with your other half. Even more so with your monster vehicle. I promise you, as you get more and more experience you'll soon be pressing the 'ludicrous' button. As a first drive you did very well handling the monster and recovering  in the few instances where there were problems and soft sand.

@Waqas Parvez - You indicated a level of experience with other clubs before joining in the Absolute Newbie. Driving at the back I did not get  chance to see as much as I would have liked, but I see that in principle, you coped with everything that was put in  front of you. I cannot ask for anything more. I think you have a command of the basics. You are welcome to apply for a promotion based on self declared experience. Personally, I would wait until I finished a full Newbie drive. Levels are different in different clubs, as are the ways we drive. Experience in some skills might be gained, but ways of working may not. In the end, it's your choice.

@Belal Aldaour - don't run before you can walk. The FJ is a great car that can give drivers great confidence before they have really learned the basics. Yes, and absolute newbie can be frustrating, because some drivers might not have your confidence or your car, but you need to get all the skills in your hands before you think about faster or more extreme, because without them, at the moment you need them, you'll be unpleasantly surprised.

@takeshi sobue - We need next time you are out to make sure that the communications are crisper and clearer. That will avoid situations like we had where you cleared a crest far too fast. I think you have all the skills we need in a driver from what I saw, but that comms issue is critical.

@Marcin Wronowski - unexpected though it was to have you turn up, I am glad we made the decision, and were able to add you in the convoy. You have exactly the right type of attitude to this hobby that will let you enjoy every experience for what it is and make the most of it. You showed good control and capability.

@Shahid Mehmood - You were also a bit of a surprise package (did not know you were joining) and having an audience the whole drive was probably also a little disconcerting, but you handled the beast with great care and composition. The Y62 is a great vehicle for this hobby and we have a number of experienced drivers with them in the club. There are a number of things to look out for in terms of protecting the vehicle the more you do.

You have all now completed your Absolute Newbie and your next drive will be a Newbie drive.

If you sign up for WhatsApp notifications, on Sunday morning, there will be a list of drives that will be posted for the following week. Every Sunday at 7pm these drives open up and you can sign in to any drive appropriate for your Carnity rank.

For the next drives, please bring along a deflator, pressure gauge, flag, compressor and radio as a MANDATORY requirement.

    • Learn to deflate your tires and checking them precisely
    • Learn to fix a flag on your car
    • Learn to program and fully charge your radio

  3. Dear Ladies & Gents,

We will use this convoy order tomorrow - if you're not sure what that means, we will explain all in the morning.

    image.png.c6cb6b439c17f9a49404b12a12c4e9f6.png

For those of you without a radio, we will have spares.

Please bring a compressor as we will finish the drive a long way from a gas station and it's a long drive to fill air (we will guide you there if you don't have a compressor with you).

See you all in the morning.

    @Fauzia Parveen @Shams Bin Majeed @Yasin @Claire Adshead @VIJAYA KUMAR DOPPA @Imteeaz Goolamhossen @Vishal Nair @Kaleem Ur Rahman @takeshi sobue @Sibin Nellissery @Belal Aldaour @Harshad Ashraf @Waqas Parvez

Myself, @Jeepie and @Alex Raptor are looking forward to seeing everyone.

See you soon in the sand.

Hello, yes I did! Why you removed me from the trip?

Hi @Rouaj you can only sign up for Absolute Newbie once. You did that with @Chaitanya D last week. As a result, I have to remove you from the drive.

1 hour ago, Kaleem Ur Rahman said:

Hey, sorry to be putting it here but just the time crunch. Are all the equipments listed in the video including walkie talkie, inflator deflator , shovel etc required in the very first drive? Also, gloves still required?

    Hi Kaleem, @Kaleem Ur Rahman

You should have a minimum of a deflator and gauge and an offroad flag. For the first drive, we can provide a walkie talkie/radio so you don't have to buy. The gloves are no longer a compulsory requirement.

Thanks for comment. Is there any drive aprt from morning. its too early to reach in the morning especially as a newbie

    Hi Ayra,

The thing about off-roading is that it tends to get quite hot unless you start early morning - so the chances of an afternoon Absolute Newbie are limited. If you can drag yourself from your bed there is still space on the Absolute Newbie this week.

Not sure from where you are travelling - perhaps the AD drives are closer?

Hi @ayra Shihab, I see that you have no prior experience with Carinty, hence you will need to join the Absolute Newbie drive on Friday morning, if you have prior off experience you can declare to the drive lead during the briefing.

The drive on this Friday seems to be full, but leave your comment in the post, and drive lead may still include you if there are drop-outs

Charlie - thanks for that. At the moment we have space on the Absolute Newbie drive.

Yessir. Since it was a problem I entered a newbie ride at same time. Thanks, Michel

somebody wasn’t sure they were registered and this shows they are registered.

Great that you got the Newbie place nailed. Absolute Newbie again means that you get the briefing again and as you already did a masterclass as well, it's probably better to go for a Newbie where there is space.

This is my first drive with club as i rejected from last week. I have fixed towing hook

Hi Shams, yes, I understand that there was an issue last week that it was not possible to locate the front and rear tow points. I understand that the rear has a hitch with two small eyelets - is it possible to load a photo so we can be 100% sure this time. I would hate for you to find that 2 weeks in a row you there are problems.

Understand that this is not 100% convenient, but our principle concern is safety and better to be safe than sorry.

Since I joined @Carnity last year in July  I learned a lot from every one . Honestly the leaders lead sessions lead by @Gaurav and supported by @Wrangeld and @Jeepie , sincere huge thank you to them , came to open a new door for us in off-roading . I needed to hear and see and to be involved in many and few things that are extremely essential to what we are coming for.
From my side I will do the best what I can to maintain and  develop this club SAFELY .

thank you @Shaaz Shaand @Hisham Masaad for being together and I was honoured 🙏

I am looking forward to lead in the desert soon.

    Mohamed

I am looking forward to supporting a drive led by you in the desert soon.

I have driven once in March this year and have not done any rides since then, because I was out of the country.

My car is a 1978 FJ40 which I have upgraded over the winter and this is first time back in sand since March, I want to take a very easy ride to gently get it back into it.

I was ready online yesterday to sign up and if you bump me off this one, I suspect the other newbie rides will be full so pls keep me here.

    Hi Michel,

It's unusual but the circumstances probably mean we can make an exception here - better to go safely than rush into things and with the vehicle having been upgraded I will leave you in the drive.

    • Totally Agree (+2) 1
  11. @Michel Van Woudenberg Thanks for signing up for the drive, however, it looks like you already did your absolute newbie drive and a newbie with Vanessa. Unfortuntely, unless there is a pressing reason (new car/not driven in more than 12 months etc.) drivers cannot join another Absolute Newbie.

Hope you understand. We will ask the other newbie drive leads if they have room.

  14. Post Drive Report

There are some days when you feel you did not do your best as a lead to find a great track, or make it challenging or that you did not impart any real knowledge to the drivers. And there are days like today, when the sand has been damaged beyond reason and it's impossible to find rythym because at every turn you find that there are dangerous tracks created by bulldozers.

Simply, the tracks and wake left by it from the bulldozers that have sandalized (vandals in the sand) what was a wonderful area in which we enjoyed playing in Sweihan have made it very difficult to find a line that is safe, fun and flowing. Everything that Sweihan used to be.

If you sense in this report frustration and sadness, you'll be right. Leads plan drives based on the expectations we set for the drive (and ourselves) and today ... the plan was thrown out of the window, torn up and shredded into minuscule pieces.

This will go down as a we did our best drive. Did our best to cover ground, did out best to side slope, did our best to criss cross and ridge ride. We also did our best to enjoy when we could and the lay bowls were impressive.

Thanks all for the patience and understanding, expecially as we needed to exit Charlie along the way.

See you soon in the sand.
