Great to have dear Richard back, I once recall he was behind me on a drive ( as a convoy driver) and I was superlative nervous to have a Marshal behind me. Near-half way of the drive he had to exit as his car was having some engine problem and I then could totally relax.
If I recall that was a drive with @Lorenzo Candelpergher where I managed to snap the stabilizer arm on the Jeep so I was at a severe disadvantage during the drive!
Let's hope for a less eventful drive this week - I cannot afford to both repair the car and pay for the petrol to run it!
Apart from the ludicrous start time, looking forward to the drive!

@varunmehndiratta looking forward to supporting your drive. Faqa has some great challenges from high dunes and ridges to sweeping dunes with exciting bowls.
@Ashok chaturvedi I will do my best to ensure that you are relaxed, but this time without breaking my car. I am pleased that such an experienced driver is joining the drive - so those with less experience can follow your line.

Congratulations @Gaurav Soni this is a great story. I recall when you applied for promotion to support and were turned down. Instead of bitchin n moanin you took it on the chin and asked yourself why did you not get approval straight away. You went off to drive in other clubs and no doubt learned a lot. You also clearly looked inside a little and came back stronger, more committed and ... now you're at the pinnacle.
You've been a great example to other drivers and now have the chance to lead those for whom off roading is as important in their lives as for you.

Hi all,
Well, that was a blast. It's what I call a 'flow' drive - the objective is to keep the convoy moving as smoothly as possible while still presenting lots of challenges along the way.
Once you all got into the swing, and understood the Fewbie pace we needed, we flew, literally from dune to dune without problems. The fact we got so far without any real problems was testament to the excellent driving skills, focus and consideration for each other.
I was very impressed by the way you all negotiated the challenges and the room you gave yourselves and others on the convoy. Most incredible, is that you all covered some of the technical patches that put fear into the minds of many drivers, so they end up faltering and getting stuck. Instead, you all stuck with it and (maybe because I did not make a big thing of it) made your way through with only a few refusals and one car that needed digging out.
It was all great practice for @JeromeFJ who was an excellent CF for what ever problems needed sorting.
Drivers/drives of note:
@Lawrence_Chehimi - new wheels, new experience, great job as we would expect.
@Gerrit Bus - love the gladiator and the fact you just don't let the fact it's as long as a bus phase you.
@Gurcharan Mehta - my apologies for questioning if you'll follow the line. You were impeccable.
@Tareq Al Turq - last in, first out! Glad you were helped by everyone to get you going quickly.
All the rest - all the best.
See you sometime in the sand.

Special thanks to all my mentors, @Rob S for his encouragement. @Wrangeld my real Yoda, my Jedi Master introducing me to the sands. @Vanessa8580for her super supporting and affable nature @Chaitanya Dfor scaring the wits out of me on my newbie drive where I was wondering if I enrolled myself into an advance drive by mistake. Thanks once again and love to see you all in this forum so passionate and encouraging to new comers. Love you all.
Congratulations Juzer. Delighted for you.

As @Vanessa8580 says, I will lead a drive on Saturday morning. Looking forward to this, as I have been out of Carnity action for a few weeks.
@Juzer Gandhi hope to live up to expectations.

Thanks for this @Frederic, from a fellow Pajero owner. I had issues with my system last year, but after trial and error, and changing the "family" of solenoids, all is like new again, and find the system quite reliable. A nice summary how it actually works. Am actually a big fan of the Pajero system including tiptronic, as opposed to using only the automatic option. Keep this quiet though - don't tell @Wrangeld, as I can hear him say "Always drive in D, the car knows better than you" 🤣😂
I am but a humble servant of the Pajero. I will let you know the moment that I use the tiptronic.

Post Drive Report
'We Can be Heroes, if just for one day...'
You can only drive to the conditions in which you find the sand, which let's face it were perfect today. As everyone here is a Fewbie, you've all driven enough in dry, sandy conditions to understand how lucky we were with the hard, packed sand on almost the whole route.
We did 2 drives in one, had 18 cars in the convoy. That's probably a record in Carnity for a Fewbie drive and for sure a record for a drive covering 65km+. Ridges ridden, crisses crossed, sides sloped. It was immense.
A single pop out, and one or two small recoveries were the only unplanned stops in the drive. We met the IM convoy of @Ale Vallecchias we crossed over the gas pipeline (taking exceptional care not to encroach at any time on the boundaries of that facility) and covered technical dunes with little more than a moment of hesitation. We even had an unexpected additional driver that the Carnity system had shifted unbeknown to me into the drive attendees.
Thanks everyone for making it a memorable drive. @Alex Raptor @Niki - truly, the A team. @Richard Franks excellent 2nd lead (different to last time, for sure). Everyone else, excellent. Far too many to mention. It was a privilege.
See you soon in the sand

@Rsjiv Samuel Sorry to break the bad news to you, but I had to place you back in the waitlist for the drive on Saturday. I guess you jumped in at the moment that Naim signed out, but we have a system in Carnity that the first person on the waitlist is the first person moved up to the drive and that was @Rob S and people that do not have another drive booked get preference (which was also the case for Rob.
If I've got this wrong, please let me know, but when I looked at the original waitlist you were around number 12.
The rules are there for, and apply to all equally so I hope you understand.

Dear @Lorenzo Candelpergher this is a sad day for the club. We lose one of the most competent, creative and complete leads in the Marshal group, leaving a massive gap that will be hard to fill.
You've been a leading force in developing the more creative themed drives that so many people love. Climbs, ridges, extreme, distance - you've done it all, with massive aplomb and generating an incredible loyal following evidenced by the speed with which ANY drive to which your name was attached filled up.
Keeping up with you, both literally and figuratively has been a challenge, and I have enjoyed every moment in the sand in your company (and beyond) since that first newbie, through your promotions and onto witnessing your excellence as a marshal. I wish I'd supported your drives anywhere near as many times as you have mine - I would have learned such a lot.
The sand will continue to tremor as you approach it, sadly in the future, outside of Carnity. As with every aspect of your life, there is no doubt this will be a great success.
Indeed, after the dark comes the light, after the rain comes the sun and new shoots sprout.

Truly sorry that feel that there is no alternative to this decision.
You've been loyal to a fault, dependable, supported more drives (and usually those where other support did not want to because it was not going to be sufficiently exciting) than most and taught more people to steer down than I care to mention.
If this means that I have a passenger in my car on more regular occasions, that is the single potential beneficial outcome that I can see of this decision. I am losing my most regular and competent support on drives, routefinder and partner in crime.
For you, perhaps, you'll be sleeping late on the mornings that I get up early to lead drives, but knowing that will mean a lot less joy from the experience from the driving than there has been ever since that day on 25th November 2019 when we first ventured into the sand together.
This is a terrible loss to this club. A great shame. I feel sorry for those that will not benefit from your experience in the future.

Morning Fewbie Desert Drive - Faqa - Dubai - 5 June 22
in Offroad Drives

One of the reasons I do so few drives in AD is that almost every time that I drive there I also find myself contributing more than expected to the AD economy. So, finding that we ended up deep into AD territory (... I thought we were headed for Solar Park, by the way!) I made sure to remain carefully 2kph below the stated limit.
I guess this is the (literal) price we pay for the opportunity to drive in the beautiful dunes AD has to offer.
