Hi @varunmehndiratta, I am using 285/70/R17 KO2s for my JL. Now completed 80k km. After my last service I was told I can still use it for another 15k km. So from my experience I can say it is long lasting. It is better to have more clearance especially since we are off-roading. While installing my 285s, I was told it easily fit for stock lift and it did. But when ever I went to the dunes especially fb+ drives and above, during any bumps my tires would hit the fenders and the fenders would come out of the sockets. I also damaged some of my fender sockets. So in order to have the peace of mind I installed 1.5" spacer lift without changing the suspension, so that I could avoid the tires hitting the fenders and now it does not hit anymore. Since we into proper off-roading I would suggest having more clearance and not going for the max size you can accommodate. Cheers!

Thanks Kailas … yeah concept is done going for KO2 or Geolandar with Mopar kit n spacers … however stuck with aanother challenge. though size exists with both brands, with R18 stock is not easy to find 🤣🤣

@Zed how come you are in the FB+ drive? Is the LC 1000 coughing too much after the last IM drive?

I have Cooper 4S's on my xj. Only had them maybe 3 months, put about 14k km on them and have been extremely satisfied. That 14k km has included rock crawling, mountain passes, dunes, thick mud ruts, water crossings, highway cruising and daily driving. I rotated them at 8k kms. Road noise is nominal and pretty much hidden behind a motoring 4.0L engine and wind noise. I can't comment on longevity, but they still look brand new and performance has been awesome. Haven't experienced cracking that others are mentioning and I hadn't read anything about it in reviews before I pulled the trigger on them, so maybe exceptional cases? As XJ's are pretty light, I don't mind a slightly thinner side wall than the KO2s, which I had been considering as well; and I like a slightly ligher tire as 90% of my offroading is on dunes. Price was mid-way between BFG and Geolanders.

Dear Desert Drivers, Thank you for singing up to the drive on Saturday. I'm sure most of you have already driven this area of Faqa, but it allows to a great variety of tracks, so most of us will go through something new. The plan is to warm-up in the medium size technical area close to the starting point, and once we have taken the measure of the sand conditions, migrate inside the high dune area, in search for long ridges to ride. I will issue last details and convoy order tomorrow by the end of the afternoon. Please let me know before that in case you changed you plan.

Dear Friends, It was my pleasure meeting you all on a beautiful saturday morning, we start sailing about 6.30 after clearing the fog. As per my initial plan i wanted cover lot of long range high dunes, but due to previous day rain sand was damped and very slippery. after about 30 mins of driving i believe due to wet sand condition @Jessica Lambert had a pop out at the exit of slide slope. it was quick fix with help of all the members and we started to sail again searching for clean sand. finally we managed find some dry clean sand to enjoy some high ride and ridge riding, but the strong wind to slip face made it verse to ride the ridges, so we played it safe on some medium range dunes, Through out the drive we had fare share of all the experience. high ride on long range dunes, ridge riding, slide sloping, high speed baja run in the sabka and lot of technical dunes as well. im very happy with everybody performance until we reach our exit point at solar park. very good discipline through out the drive and helping each other on recoveries and stucks. 🙏 my special thanks to @GauravSoni appearing as special guest and helping all of us through out the drive. @Haitham Khattab you did great as second lead, reliable second lead behind lead is always peace of mind for the lead. 👍 @Gregory thank you very much for all the support through out the drive for all the recoveries. 👏 @Senthil Kumar thank you for all the update from behind the convoy 👍 Thank all other members as well @Jessica Lambert @Peter Hager @Ignacio Quindós @Tareq Al Turq @Sam K @Gerrit Bus @Imran Kashif @Tareck for great team work and enthusiasm through out the drive. hope you guys enjoyed the drive. see you soon next time. cheers, have a nice week ahead.

Thank you @Rizwanm2 for the great introduction to Fewbie+ level! The unexpected wet sand was a valuable learning experience- thank you and @Gaurav Soni for fixing my pop out! I can imagine how badly churned the sand was for everyone toward the end of the convoy, so well done to all for managing that. As I was behind @Haitham Khattab I had the benefit of seeing his second lead skills first hand- often Haitham would re-route slightly and instinictively when there wasn't time for Rizwan to call back about a sudden obstacle. I really appreciated this as it helped me a lot in this new level on this unfamiliar wet terrain! Catch you all again soon inshallah.

@Gerrit Bus, it was great meeting you in this ride. Can you please remind me again what is the name of the 360 cam that you had mounted on your car. @Imran Kashif, can you please remind me what is the name of the shop that did the rollover cage for you (I remember it was in Abu Dhabi :D)

As we always tell everyone that never to go alone in the desert, it's because you need another vehicle help to pull you out if you are stuck unless you are ready to move the dune with a shovel. I have done that once when someone left me alone in the night drive. Good point @Fuad, to always go with bare minimum 3 cars, as two cars can get stuck too while recovering each other with a stuck rope and you need a third car and a second tow rope to fix the situation. I have an interesting theory to share for NOT going alone in the desert: When you are driving in convoy for X amount of drives or years and never or rarely got a stuck and this time you think you are ready to venture alone and on your first drive and within 1 km you get stuck. It's called Murphy's law - "Anything that can go wrong will go wrong". Naaaah. The reason why you got stuck because it wasn't your bad day but your subconscious mind telling you to not to do something all the time against your wish. This resulted in scary throttle, bad judgement, confused sand reading letting you stuck in a simplest of a dune or a crest, that you could have crossed in a blink if you were in a convoy with a peace of mind that you have few equipped cars behind you all the time. Conclusion: How to overcome this fear.....? Off course by not going alone in the desert, the simple and easiest one. OR learn how to fool your subconscious by saying that you have 15 cars behind you all the time.
