    Hey desert-champs,

it was an amazing experience to drive through the desert after the heavy rain (and for me a sleepless night). @Wrangeld Thank you for guiding us through all these various terrains. Was great to meet all of you and feel the carnity spirit on the first drive 2022. @Alex Raptor thank you for the puddle action - it reminded my boys that their dad is everything but not cool 😝, have a great start into the newly designed week and I am looking forward to meet you next weekend!

We are all hoping that your wife appreciated you taking the kids out of her way to mop up after the flood :-)

Great to see you and the kids again.

  5. Post Drive Report

    @Rob Soughton @Reggie Landicho @Gertjan @Dinesh Kumar A @Davie Chase @Felix Obst @Marcin Wronowski @Alexanderrr @Tom B @Amir Amiri

Well, that was a blast! After we exited Marcin - sorry but we could not risk two leaking tires, we drove and drove all the way to the Sorting Hat at Solar Park. Normally, the last 20 kkm of that route are done on dirt tracks, but the convoy was so good (and helped by the conditions) that we could channel our inner Desert Champions and take the off road route.

A really fantastic drive by everyone. Perhaps we could have crissed and crossed a little more, or we could have ridden more ridges, but I think that the novel circumstances, and getting used to the harder sand on both sides of the dune, we made the right decisions and stayed safe.

Speedwise, this was faster than normal, again largely because the sand was so wet. Everyone did really well in the drive, without exception: particularly in the treacherous technical section as we get close to the solar arrays and the last piece as we approached the Solar Park visitors centre. You just have to see how few tracks there were in that are to understand that most people would not go there.

Thanks to my wingman/mentor/support, @Alex Raptor Alex 'The Raptor' Raptor, sorting out every problem (very few this time round).

Thanks to all of you as well. Good morning's fun.

    Happy New Year.

Apologies if I got any ranks wrong.

    @Rob Soughton @Reggie Landicho @Gertjan @Dinesh Kumar A @Davie Chase @Felix Obst @Marcin Wronowski @Alexanderrr @Tom B @Amir Amiri

(O I see now, your name wrong Marcin!).

To the waitlist guys: apologies, we gave preference to those for whom this was the first drive of the weekend.

It's been raining - so conditions should be fantastic for a challenging drive with lots of excitement.

As new restrictions have been re-imposed on getting into Abu Dhabi, we will make sure to keep well away from the border line in case there are drivers without a green Al Hosn. This means a slightly different route than I originally planned - but it will still be fun. The entry road is before the Faqa police station (which is the border), so please be careful on your route into the dunes.

See you soon in the sand.

If you're not going to be able to come, and know about it early, please do sign out and give a chance to the people on the waitlist to join.

For the rest of us, weather depending (have you seen the forecast for the coming days .... and it already rained this morning) we will enjoy the high dunes around the Faqa area. They are not quite Liwa or Moreeb, but they will offer some of you a new experience on the dunes you did not enjoy before. And, it's quite stunning around this area.

As ever, it's totally depending in the performance of the convoy where we end up.

See you soon in the sand.

  9. Post Clean Up Drive

A MASSIVE thanks to everyone in the clean up crew this morning. Loads of bin bags full, chairs, clothing, bottles cans all the detritus of multiple people abusing the desert before us.

In addition, a fun newbie (plus) drive from Bab Al Shams to Last Exit. A great way to spend early Xmas day morning - doing something we love and treating a place we love with care and love. This is what having a 4x4 loving community is about in my opinion - and everyone that came along was totally committed to both.

This is something we will do again, and again - because we owe it to the desert that gives us so much. I am looking forward to the photos in the album showing just what we achieved.

    Merry Christmas.

@Alex Raptor @Dodi Syahdar @Ale Vallecchi thanks for the support. You guys know more than anyone just how important this type of event is. You've seen with your own eyes the way in which people leave the desert after visiting.

@Looper @Nabil Jamil @Anton Dimov @topgear @khurram.k Thanks to all of you and ALL the people that you brought with you to the drive.

Looking forward to seeing you soon in the sand.

  10. Disgusting Desert Dutiful Deliverancers

Thank you for offering your time and energy to clean up our wonderful desert tomorrow.

How will we manage this? Our convoy will be as follows:

    1. Wrangeld
    2. Looper
    3. Nabil Jamil
    4. Zeeshan Patel
    5. Armand
    6. Anton Dimov
    7. Dodi Syadhar
    8. Khurram. K
    9. Aisha. S
    10. Ahmad Salama
    11. Topgear
    12. Alex Raptor SW
    13. Ale Vallecchi FSW

Starting at Bab Al Shams, we will make our way in the direction of Last Exit. I expect that the experienced drivers (highlighted in the list) can act as support for the less experienced, showing them excellent drive lines and helping them in recoveries where the seniors (underlined) are not there.

When we find some spot where disgusting levels of rubbish have been left, we will stop and as a group clear up, take the rubbish out of that spot and move on.

There will be some fun driving - don't be worried about that, but we will be searching for rubbish, so think of the drive like an exploration.

Because it's Xmas day, we plan to exit by 11, so everyone that wants can get home in time for any festivities.

See you soon in the sand.

  11. You guys are complete troopers. Thanks for signing up for probably one of the most important drives of the year. Where Carnity members look at the disgusting state of the desert we drive in and do something about it.

I truly hope there will be more like minded souls that understand that the timing was designed to allow for Xmas morning excitement (late start) and allow the day to not be totally taken up by this activity (out by 11am) but if not, we will clean up as much as we can and know that we earned our Xmas lunch.

I promise that there will be some desert driving, it cannot all be work and no play - but the hope is we can clean at least a small part of the disgusting detritus left by the people coming to the desert.

Your manage team @Ale Vallecchi, @Alex Raptor and @Dodi Syahdar

will also be trying our best to create some festive cheer for everyone on the drive.

  12. It's Christmas, and whether you celebrate it or not it's a great excuse to give something back to the wonderful desert that we enjoy week after week - and based on the disgusting rubbish that we have seen during recent drives it's needed.

Our objective is to drive into the desert and search around for and clean up as much rubbish as we can find - saving the wildlife, fauna and flora that we all want to continue enjoying.

    Specific Information:

    • We will be entering the Qudra Dunes with the specific intention of cleaning up the Desert.
    • Please make sure you bring your own garbage bags, rakes, gloves or what ever else you think you might need to clean up.
    • Bring more passengers to help with our objective, clear out the baggage area and make sure you have as much space as possible to carry out the rubbish that we find.
    • We will be driving into the Desert and you will need to deflate as we will need to find the worst areas of rubbish.
    • We will drive a little in the desert - starting at Bab Al Shams with the plan to get back to Last Exit means we will get our tires sandy, at least.

    General Info

This drive is organized in full compliance with the COVID19 guidelines. We expect every member that joins this drive to go through below information and and strictly follow these guidelines in order not to jeopardize someone's health, and to ensure we can keep organizing these drives safely.

  13. Post Drive Report: Absolutely Fantastic

That was a great drive by everyone. For your first time out in the desert, literally for some of you what you did cannot be under-estimated.

@haridas kt you'll get used to the different feeling of being in sand and start to really control the car, instead of it controlling you (like it did a few times today)

@Andrew McCarthy having done a masterclass helps a lot before venturing into a convoy drive and we saw today that what you learned first time round was put well into practice. You need to sort out the bumper - it's not sensible to remove it each time. Thanks for acting as second lead. Great job.

@Asad only a few moments when the courage to use the accelerator let you down today. Some nice self recoveries.

@Ashhad Siddiqui I am glad you felt you learned something today. We all learn, every time we go out into the desert. I think a few more convoy drives at newbie will be worthwhile for you for the future. Thanks for taking on the additional role in the middle of the convoy.

@Zeeshan Patel the Patrol has a lot of power that needs to be tamed. Once you get the feel confident with your car, the rest becomes a lot easier. For a first time out, fantastic.

@Dr Tanveer Ahmed so, you flummoxed me with how to get into your battery terminals, but apart from that, a great day out as far as I see. You controlled the car beautifully.

@Siddharth gupta It's a beast and you handled it very well. As expected, you got crested, but after that you started to understand how your car works on the sand and did amazingly well.

@Alex Raptor thanks for the incredible support on this drive from start to finish. Normally we have an experienced CF and sweep in a drive like this - you managed both roles perfectly.

See you soon in the sand.

What's your vehicle (and any modifications)?

    Offroad experience?

Why are you joining this drive?

PLEASE, please go through the tutorials and the videos - it's going to help you a lot on the drive. Also front & rear towpoints - there's nothing worse than having to send someone home who got up early in the morning because their car did not have these.

@Jessica Lambert @Dr Tanveer Ahmed thanks for sharing already.

See you soon in the sand.

Looking forward to joining you guys, make some friends, share some knowledge and increase my off-roading skills.

    Hi @Wrangeld,

I have (yes🙂) a Pajero. 2017. 3.5L. White. No modifications but I will try to remove that plastic thing at the back that acts as a sand scoop.

I have limited off-road experience, particularly on sand, but I did the Desert Driving Master Class with Asif last weekend and it was great and I want to do more.

I would like to have fun driving with a group, maybe challenging myself a bit in the company of those who know what they are doing, and meet a diverse bunch of people.

I am looking forward to it.

    Andrew

    Hi Andrew,

Great to have you on board. You'll see the solution I installed for the rear scoop bumper tomorrow. Removal is challenging because it leaves a lot of exposed metal that the testers don't like.

Anyhow, looking forward to seeing you ... we may just about let the F150s and Prado spoil the fun!

See you soon in the sand.

    1. Your car and any modifications you made
    2. Your off road experience if any
    3. What you want out of driving with a 4x4 club.

Please make sure you do check out the videos and tutorials designed for first time drivers before arriving and make sure you have the 4x4 gear required for the drives.

Myself and Alex look forward to meeting you on Friday.

hi @Wrangeld and everyone. Excited to join the club.

    I have stock Prado V6 2010.

    No prior off-roading experience.

Want to explore the desert and develop off-road skills where i am confident of handling any terrain on my own.

Also you've mentioned the front & rear tow hooks are mandatory. My stock prado doesn't have a rear hook, any suggestions where i can get one and the rest of the gear before the drive? thanks.

Hi Asad, Thanks for that. I am surprised that the Prado has no rear tow hook as standard. The short term solution is to use a hitch receiver onto which a shackle can be affixed.

We cannot use a ball (like you use to tow a vehicle), but a hitch point will work

    https://www.aceuae.com/en-ae/bushranger-recovery-hitch-hooks-with-shackle-silver/285633.html?gclid=Cj0KCQiAnuGNBhCPARIsACbnLzr-XS5sTyed5Ql50-C0i4RUfCRwEkn1f5vYuG0cakpAAuw_yb0CSQ8aAjMDEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds

If there is no rear towing point, we cannot let you drive, because the risks are too high to your vehicle of towing from a different point.

    1. Pajero 2015, 3.5L, 5 Door, Black

    2. No modifications made yet. However, before my first drive I am planning to trim front and rear bumpers at a garage. Is it required?

    3. No off road experience. First time in my life.

    4. I want to explore desert, with a little bit adventure. I know this group is the absolute fit.

    Haridas

Hi @haridas kt that's great. No mods needed for the first drive, that's for sure, but if you do it, it cannot harm your drive. I drive a Pajero - so I think you have the perfect vehicle! We cater in this drive especially for first time drivers, and desert exploration is what we are about, so good to have you on board.
