    Dear Desert Drivers,

Thank you you joining the drive today. As expected, the desert was still showing the effect of the rains of last week. Starting with the meeting point, still totally flooded. Once everyone reached, we drove on the tarmac a few km and entered a bit further.  The sand was generally still very compact,  offering a good grip beneficial for the high climbs. The crossings were also generally facilitated, but the edges were sharper than usual, requiring a perfect accuracy for the driving line. A few other traps in the form of steeper pockets than usual, salt crust remaining from evaporated water ponds in the flat areas, water or sludge on the flat sabkhas.

All this did not prevent us to enjoy fully the area. We had our share of high climbs, steep descents, ridge riding and crossing and beautiful desert views. The first portion with bigger dunes, more thrills and sensations,  the second portion more technical with totally virgin dunes.

Very well driven all of you. @Shaun J, @Aser excellent focus and control for your first FB+, @Julien Recan @Deepak Eswar you had one crossing a bit hazardous, but well done for the rest, @Luke K P @msa @Robk @Frans M, excellent control in both portions. Special thanks to @Luke K P as Second Lead, and @Deepak Eswar for the Sweep, both of you very reliable today.

Enjoy the rest of the weekend and see you soon!

    Dear Jerome,

Thank you for organising such an exhilarating & safe drive on Saturday. While crossing the 'blue Jeep' bowl brought back fond memories of my old blue Jeep Wrangler.

I'm also grateful for giving me the opportunity to sweep the convoy. It was an interesting experience.

Looking forward to our next drive.

Thanks everyone for a excellent drive.

@JeromeFJgreat leading taking us into some exciting and new (for me) terrain. Really spectacular scenery.

The FB+ debutantes @Aserand @Shaun J drove supremely well, and were very handy with the shovels digging my car or from the full body cresting on the ridge! I claimed first stuck of the drive 😎

Both myself and @Robk got to enjoy the full pleasure of long wheel base vehicles in technical dunes with some shovels and ropes.

The big bowls were great fun, as were the back and forth crossing of ridges towards the end of the drive. Was great to see big combo of FJs, jeeps, the big patrol, and the retro livery LC71 dominating everything that Jerome put in our parh

Here's a couple of captures videos of the convoy... I'll get some more of my camera tonight I hope.

Cheers and see you all in the sand again soon.

    Drive Report

When I was reaching to the starting point, I noticed the sun looked extra-large, behind the Al Faya mountains further there was no fog or clouds. Indeed, it was an exceptional drive we had, because of the favorable weather conditions and the track that was compact as a paved mud road we could do things that we will perhaps never be able to do.

My initial plan was to go to the left side from where we started and from there towards camel rock but when I saw the pristine tall dunes on the right, I was determined to make a dick move (you see 🫣 what I mean?) after that we came near the pink rock and climbed towards camel rock. That was not a track to climb up, that is for climbing down from the other side, but we could do it without any issues. I love that place for stopover and while we did only about 45 min drive by then I wanted to stop anyways for the views. The drive from Camel Rock towards Big red saw us navigating between play areas at 50-60 kmph and more if you believe others. At the play areas we climbed dunes that are unimaginable otherwise. we literally could climb Big Red standing still at its foothill.

The terrain: The smaller tracks were all washed out and the dunes looked like tiramisu cake. The larger more churned up tracks however were quite bumpy and had to be navigated with caution.  We tried to avoid the cross tracks as much as possible and when we found tracks, we tried to drive along with them instead of crossing them.

The Loops: I like making loops of the same place again and again and we did plenty. Initially sometimes I had to stop to let the back of the convoy pass before I can move but gradually, I made them larger and larger. The best loop was made just before exit for our last hurrah when we were on a perfect loop with entire convoy driving on a large single-track segment and me driving behind Fabien for one round till, I came back to the place where I started to follow him and then I took a different track. There were large patches of radio silence whenever we were engrossed in the driving pleasure.

@Ranjan Das was at second lead behind me, not a usual place for him these days but he was superb. I was playing catch me if you can for most parts and glad to have you behind so that you could actually catch up with me, and also moderate the drive behind you when I was literally flying. @Fabien Monleau was as usual very supportive at the back.

Thank you @Marek_was003 for your drive report. I did not realize it was your first FB+, we drove earlier so I was under the impression that you have done a few but you ended up with a FB++ drive, you did great though. It was first time driving with @Robk hope you enjoyed the drive. @Deepak Eswar, @Rk ram, @Zulfikhar Naiyar & @Mahmoud Taha there was complete radio silence from you for most parts that meant only one thing - you were engrossed in the drive. @Emanuel I saw your video few times already, a fantastic one and I see that the final cut version is also has been released by you. This video perfectly summarizes what we did that morning. Thanks a lot!

I see that you have not disabled the Kid-mode on the video please see following post on how to disable it.

Hi Goutham, Indeed, it was an amazing drive, never experienced before, with perfect weather and challenging terrains conquered. Big thanks to @Looper for the lead, and @Ranjan Das  and @Fabien Monleau for the support, and a special thanks to @Emanuel for capturing the exciting moments on video. Thank you for all other friends, for their company and support!

My first F+ drive and I immediately realized how big of a difference it is: everybody on time; straight to business and ready to go; I was the only one getting refusals ;-) and there was only one weird popout but @Fabien Monleau fixed it even before we all looped back to help (amazing job). I understand where @Looper got his nickname! The loops were often brutal and very demanding, but fun nonetheless. It was intense like never before since I joined - often reaching rev-limit on second gear in my humble dune buster (approx 110km/h) going around the slope... that's a G force I did not expect!

    Some of the loops:

    image.png.02cd799b8270eeebf1b6fec6ff3cd78a.png

    And some more:

    image.png.432100c238615f41c3527cba713e4005.png

I guess the only way it's possible is because of the weather - you can go around and around over the same tracks without destroying the dune - that's how compacted it was...

Thank you all for the opportunity to drive with you gents!

It is not as bad as I thought it would be, and for the time being seems like we dodged the bullet. It is always better be cautious than sorry. We will perhaps have a G Force "Light" tomorrow than "Max" version, so I have added all the enthusiasts that have joined the drive till now. Won't mind some last-minute dropouts in case something crops up for you.

We will see how we do it in the desert tomorrow and go about doing it accordingly. Not all needs to be planned, sometimes unplanned is better than planned. The tracks might seem stiff on the top but soft underneath, so please be extra cautious. Also please make sure that you have tied down everything and nothing is loose inside your car. If it permits us to do what I think we want to do, then please be wary of the motion sickness - just in case.

We will tackle G Force on Channel 2 (looper's constant) and in the following convoy order:

Beautiful drive indeed ! Thank you @Emanuel for the videos. Nice expression of how fluid the drive was.

Fluid but quite intense with the high ridges, the crossings, and the high pace.

Very well done all of you. You managed to be focused and accurate. I'm sure you could feel the difference when you managed to find that exact line that makes a crossing smooth and effortless, ..... or when you miss it, don't have the proper angle, or don't have enough momentum.

@Rk ram @Emanuel @Deepak Eswar @Gertjan @Mohit Gurnani @Ranjan Das , thank you joining, the convoy was well in sync, and it was a pleasure to lead !

Hi @JeromeFJ, A special thanks to you for leading and presenting an exciting, safe and memorable drive.
Thanks to @Rk ram for the second lead and @Ranjan Das for the support. @Emanuel, Thank you for creating the video; very nicely done. Much appreciated your efforts during the drive.

Looking forward to our next drive!

Thank you all for joining the drive this morning. This area is never disappointing, even with a few convoys around, there is largely enough space to enjoy. And this is what we did ! From one bowl to the other, crossing ridges, climbing high dunes step by step, building up momentum to reach the high points, and going gown steep slopes with rolling sand.

And these beautiful views over the dunes and sabkhas with the morning light...

The sand was a bit wet at the beginning, soft and heavy in some places, but we maintained a fluid flow, each of you keeping the pace with barely a few refusals. Still a few points to remain vigilant for some of you, steer down and come straight in the slope when your car is loosing momentum and start fishtailing, avoid sharp turns, especially in steep descends, keep your car straight in the descents (giving a bit of gas will put it back in line).

Last but not least, in a steep descent keep your wheels straight until you reach the bottom. We had 2 pop-outs at the same location, where the directions of the wheels and the car were not aligned, resulting in  excessive effort on the sidewall of the tyre. Thank you all for the team effort during these recoveries.

@Emanuel thank you for the SL, excellent drive, @Lala G, very well done also, and thank you for your support in fixing the pops, watch your fishtailing in some occasions, @Deepak Eswar, you can have excellent focus and control in some occasions (last bowl), try to have the same during the complete drive (a bit of fishtailing and refusals could be avoided), @Rk ram, no issue today, stay in control of your speed, especially in the descends, @Gertjan, very reliable drive, always in control, thank you for the pics, @Alphin Aloor keep driving, you will become more in sync with your car, and get the best out of it,  @Pascal, @george charbel, very well done, always in control, @Hugo, thank you for watching the back, always a pleasure to see that Last Edition FJ in the sands !

Enjoy the rest of the weekend and see you soon !

Dear Jerome, Thank you for the interesting drive, and appreciate your efforts to make it a memorable experience. The weather and the view from the dunes were amazing.

Thank you, everyone, for the teamwork and for overcoming challenges. I look forward for the next drive!

  8. Hi Islam, I appreciate the captivating drive you led us on. Initially, the sheer size of the dunes caught me off guard, particularly with passengers in my car. The drive was incredibly interesting for both me and my passengers, and everything went seamlessly. The choice of location was truly outstanding. A big thanks to you, Islam, for leading, and to Cha for the excellent support. It was unfortunate that @Bjoern had to leave the drive. Appreciate the support from the entire team.

As it was my first FB+ drive, I want to thank you, Ahmed, Chris, Jona, and Krishna, for the unwavering support and assistance. Ridge Riding - My favourite part of offroading!

I gave up a Sweihan drive to take part in ridge riding express by @Rizwanm2 and I did not regret my decision one bit.

The entire convoy was ready even before the meet up time and I had to delay the start by 5 mins as my air filter was clogged up. Cleaned it to find about 10 Kgs of red sand :)  and the the car started breathing better. The drive started at 6:05 am and we started attacking the small and medium sized dunes of tawi nazwa and @Rizwanm2's lines were simply superb. I guess he made it a point not to leave even one tiny ridge unflattened and we destroyed them all.

The pace was really good and we reached pink rock in no time. A couple of climbs and then more ridges which were getting higher and higher. Then, the ridges started curving which increased the skill level. It was too good.

Faced a couple of unfortunate popouts and @Deepak Eswar had to exit due to a personal emergency at 9:20 am.

We still had 40 mins and raced to big red for 30 mins of adrenaline pumping climbs and ridge riding, 2 xterras and 3 Fjs. It is safe to say that we flattened big red from all angles and sides. It became small red by the time we were done with it.

Exited sharp at 10 am and @Chris Wing hosted us with chilled beverages. Thanks buddy. Inflated quickly and went home to have a hearty lunch and a nice siesta with a smile on my face :)

@Rizwanm2 My first time on your drive and it was excellent bro. Your lines were fantastic and I had so much fun without damaging my car :)

@Chris Wing The most qualified SL for this drive and you performed brilliantly bro. Nice driving with you after a long time.

@Ahmad Nerat You are killing it with your FJ man. Great driving with no refusals, no stucks. Climbed everything :)

@Deepak Eswar It was an amazing drive from you that too being your first fb+ drive. popouts are a part of the learning curve and will never stop even if you become a marshall. Sad that you had to exit due to a personal emergency. Hope things will get better.

@Jona Just the day before, you said we need to go on a drive with the two of us at the end of the convoy and your wish came true within a day. Please make another wish that your friend, Krishna should become a billionaire soon :) . about the drive, We were just chillin in the back man, I was following your lines in a laid back fashion and as always, impeccable driving from you. I did not even know you had a passenger until we almost finished big red man :)

In the end, It was the perfect ending to the long weekend and I was energized for the work week ahead.

    Until next weekend guys,

Stay calm and the enjoy the weather.

    ~Krishna

    Drive Report:

I crave at least two drives a week. This morning when I was driving to the meeting point just before the Last Exit fuel station, I had a thought that I could have slept this morning after a very long previous day. But I must confess that after the drive I felt like it was a worthy end to the week and all the fatigue that I had was lost. I met @Bjoern at the fuel station, and we started together. I saw @Haneef Thayyil overtake me and then @Rk ram and @Deepak Eswar overtake me and @Bjoern. On the way to the meeting point I felt the chill for the first time for the season. It was a cool 27 degrees when we reached the meeting point and I had my windows down and my hand outside, I experienced the wind hitting my face.

I posted the same track a couple of weeks ago and 4 of us were driving again today as well. In the morning, just before the start I pondered on how the track was going to be today - easy? difficult? Lots of refusals or none? I threw all those out of the window and started to take a new track. At the briefing I took more time explaining the reasons for refusals and how to tackle them.

I have now got a good understanding of the track. We drove mostly on the northern side of the area, which has taller, softer, and difficult to drive dunes. At every dune crossing I was like now we were going to have a refusal, but the convoy drove very well. Everyone behind me was super focused and I felt that the briefing had rubbed on all. After we completed the super technical part, it was time to rest a bit. We reversed back on a southern track from the previous and were a bit faster. This is when @Pacific put on some music and tried to relax, and promptly got stuck. @Bjoern was all ready for a tug offering the choices of pull or winch, meanwhile @Deepak Eswar and @Rk ram dug under the car to recover the fellow doctor. It all paid off when @Pacific was able to self-recover. Then we again drove east toward the larger dunes and did a few flying sidee laps on a few of those dunes. After that we took a break at Crescent Lake, and I must thank @Deepak Eswar for the croissants he offered as breakfast.

After the break we moved towards Richie's bar. Just before reaching there, we saw a lone driver stuck in his TJ and gave a helping tug. Last time I was at Richie's bar I remember all the bushes were only a few millimeters tall but now they are tens of centimeters tall. Then we went west towards the exit.

At the end to summarize it was a great drive. Good mix of technical and fast paced dunes. For a Sunday, a shorter amount of drive and great fun.

    Credits:

@Mahmoud Taha you were an excellent second lead. I, however, noticed that you used to fall back a little more than you should.

@Haneef Thayyil impressed by your driving today. There were parts that I would be scared to bring even a FB+ convoy but you managed all sections quite well - well done 👍.

@Pacific thanks for joining the drive. In case we had refusals I knew I could trust you to recover the stuck cars and you kind of did that today by self-recovering yourself very nicely.

@Deepak Eswar you did a great job today and hope you enjoyed the drive.

@Rk ram You had a flawless drive, and it is always good to see your enthusiasm that you bring to the drives.

@Bjoern back-to-back drives for you as well. Thank you very much for the support at the back and helping with both the refusals.

See you all in the next installment of Looper's loops.

HI Gautam, Thank you for the comprehensive drive report. It's well-written and covers all the details.

The drive was exciting! We all had an exhilarating time! Thank you, Gautam,  Taha, Bjoern & Pacific, for the support and also other team members for making it such an enjoyable and memorable experience and looking forward to the next Looper's loops adventure!
