    Drive Report

Sharjah’s bowls never ever disappoint! But to take maximum advantage requires a strong convoy, and today’s Carnity convoy was most definitely up to the challenge.

We started off cautiously as the wind swept across the dunes, playing tricks with the eyes and causing illusions. It was difficult for me to see where the ridge ended and fresh air began , this only added to the excitement factor for me and the guys at the front of the convoy.

I have never seen these bowls look so fresh, there were literally no tracks, it was like we were pioneers venturing into untouched lands. Where’s a flag when you need one (Copyright Eddy Izzard….Do you have a flag?)

It didn’t take us long to leave our mark as we raced up the first mighty dune, we had some refusals as drivers got used to the conditions but nothing major. We continued to plot our path, sweeping up and down in and around with the entire convoy in sync. And then we did it again, and again, and again and again.

We flew around the smaller dunes as we made our way to yet another bowl. Suddenly we had company as the tourists made their way to the tops of the dunes to catch the setting sun. This did not deter us from our mission, everyone gave signal and we cautiously made our way around the aliens playing in our patch (How very dare they!
    😉)

By now the convoy was really motoring , at the beginning of the afternoon we had our fair share of refusals and the ropes were brought out twice, but these were just learning opportunities for the convoy. Confident that the drivers were well prepared I sounded the clarion call! YALLA!!!! And the pace was raised a nought or 10. We flew around Area 53 with it’s rabbit warren of bowls , not once but twice. I nearly went in again but it was the witching hour, and sometimes its best to end things when everyone has accomplished the goal.

Many many thanks to my support team today @GauravSoni and @Islam Soliman. @GauravSoniyou were excellent as my second lead, you followed my instructions perfectly in some very difficult situations. Thank you for that. @Islam Soliman swept up everything at the back and helped with all the refusals when it was needed. It makes such a huge difference to the lead knowing you have support like that. Thank you.

Special recognition goes to @Veedooshee on her first intermediate drive, it was a bit sticky for you at the start but by goodness you stepped up to the plate towards the end of the drive. Well done!

@Shaz Shah had a very good drive, your only issue was when you slowed down at that critical moment. @Tero Vallas you drove very well, likewise @Archibald Jurdi in that fabulous jeep of yours. Great drives! @Hisham Masaad also had a great drive. I know you said the wind was clearing the tracks at the start of the day which made it extra difficult at the back. @Jack Thomas well done for getting that big truck of yours up and around those dunes.

Once again, thank you to all of you for listening to instructions and following my lead perfectly making for a great drive!

    Until our next adventure!
    😊

@Foxtrot Oscar your drives never disappoint, and only raise the bar for each drive following the next.

@Islam Soliman was awesome driving at the back with you we had some diversions and great support.

Great team out abd see you all again everybody.

@Jack Thomas, sorry to hear that: what happened?

update as of today is they think my front differential needs to be repaired, along with oil change for front and rear as it is dirty. Hopefully that fixes the problem. It was making horrible noise driving in 2H, so I was having to drive in 4H on my way home.

All part of the fun I guess haha

    Have a great day!

@Lorenzo Candelpergher yes it definitely had my adrenaline going into the rest of the week. I am afraid it seems to have taken a toll on my truck, it is spending the next few days in the garage getting repairs done hahah but it is all part of the fun I guess ;) I am going to try get it fixed prior to Friday!

The drive itself, was my second IM and it was definitely kept up to the level of thrill, challenge, and pace of what I first experience last week. The step-up from the Fewbie to IM is definitely the biggest and I can't wait for the next one already.

Everyone was awesome team players, and it is great you allow members to just get on with the recovery and refusals, whilst being on hand with any guidance we needed.

Thanks and be great to see you all again soon

    Trip Report

It's been a while since I have been so satisfied after a drive. With a last minute back out of my previous IM drive, when @Foxtrot Oscar mentioned that she might not be able to do the drive, I immediately jumped on it with both hands. Thanks Angela for letting me lead this drive.

The adrenaline is still racing a bit when I reminisce the events of yesterday, and the full credit goes to the entire convoy for keeping up the pace thought the drive. Honestly, at one point I stopped looking at the rear view mirror and kept driving as I was quite confident that everyone would make it through.

What is even more commendable is that we had a lot of first time IMs with us, and they also matched up the pace. And also wherever it was not possible to scale the full height they would exit out early and then reroute to rejoin the convoy. This is an important lesson for all Intermedtae drivers that it's important to understand your car limitation and keep continuously driving so that the convoy doesn't stop. Well done.

@MUHAMMAD Kashif RAZZAQQ was my second lead and he did a fantastic job of keeping the right distance, stopping when he noticed me struggling and following instructions to reroute the convoy.

    We had @Ahab Shamaa

and @Abu Muhammad who provide a lot of support in helping recover the stuck cars when needed. Unfortunately the drive did have it's fair share of casualties with @Yasas Dharmadasa radiator pipe coming loose and his car overheating in one bowl, followed by a busted radiator for @Athula Dharmadada at Super bowl. It again stresses the importance of having well maintained cars (probably more maintenance than what you do with a road driven car) while doing fast paced IM drives. Since we were only half way into the drive when Yasas car had overheated, we decided to leave it behind and continue with the drive, and come back after an hour to pick it up. We then had the second incident with Athula's car, just after he scaled Super Bowl. While it was clear that Athula's car would need a mechanic to get it repaired, we were still hopeful that we could go back and get Yasas's car out. That's when we started a night drive session. Unfortunately, with some crank noise coming from his engine it was best to leave it and to get a mechanic the following day. Hope you guys are able to sort out the issue.

Fantastic driving by the entire convoy of @MUHAMMAD Kashif RAZZAQ @Rizwan Waheed@Athula Dharmadada @Yasas Dharmadasa@Abu Muhammad @Ilya Golubinsky @Ashok chaturvedi @siddharth maheshwari @Jack Thomas @Ahab Shamaa . You all did really really well and I hope you enjoyed the ride. As for myself, I hope that I would be able to drive with you guys in the near future on the same route and traverse some of the dunes that we missed yesterday. Till then, take care and drive safe.

@Srikumar you were the man! Yesterday encompassed everything what I thought of being at intermediate and offroading was all about - and more! Great leadership and everyone involved was fully involved and engaged with each other.

We definitely have to do that route again with the cars and drivers that are well equipped, we were doing some unbelievable driving and skills. Even having my car feel (and very nearly) like it was about to roll, was a fun, scary and big self-learning with help from the team 😅😂😂

This was the convoy with which we were left after a few last minute withdrawals and a last minute arrival and what a convoy it was.

We started with a bang - literally as we hit a big bump at the start of the drive (sorry about your flag Thomas - but if noone saw it when it fell and that's 7 cars the sand gods at it quickly) and moved through some fantastic wonderful long dunes and the technical sections on the way up to the central part ofthis zone.

From the lead, it looked like everyone was having fun with the ridges, the climbs, the side slipping and then the technical exercise that we covered before the light started to fail and our night drive experience began.

And - wow, what a different experience it is and for me a massive buzz of adrenaline as we made our way through the gloom, looking all the time to miss the pockets and soft sand looking to swallow up up as we drove though the desert. So many surprises, so much to see and then - a camel that had just given birth to a calfminutes before we arrived and drove back off into the dark to our eventual destination at Sky Dubai and inflation.

@Chaitanya D and @Kailas were simply amazing in support: Sorting out all the problems one after another including a truly incredible and immense effort for Thomas to be able to drive himself out of a stuck that he was convinced needed a tug. Next time maybe, but the learning from this type of commitment to getting out of trouble is essential. And of course @Jeepie who not only met me have the driving seat in the TJ but also go involed in quite a lot more digging than she expected.

We will be posting more night drives with different locations - because this really was fun and next time there will be moonlight so we can see the difference in how to drive with the moon in sight.

See you soon in the sand.

Thank you for a truly great day and evening, like you mention it was exhilarating

    Hi there guys,

I have alternative plans for tomorrow and would be happy to give up my spot to the next candidate on the waiting list who might appreciate tomorrow more than me. If too late, I definitely won't waste the booking and still go for the ride.

Just putting it out there... Let me know 👍🏻
