@Mario Cornejo i've looked into your OBD scanner model a little while back and was wondering if you are able to obtain access to the BCM (Body Control Module) of the Y61 ?

If so, then it would be a breeze to pull the TPMS actual pressures from the wheels and display them in the Torque app :)

Hi @Frederic yes it does, in a Y61 it connects to all these ECUs: BCM, Engine, ABS, TPMS and SRS.   I just to check TPMS using the app "MotorData OBD", however I removed the TPMS sensors after installing Apex deflators but will get them back on with a special bracket sold by Apex too.  Once back I will play with Torque app as you suggest.

    Amazine set-up.

What OBD are you using to monitor your engine / other temperatures?

I am looking for my Y61.

For some reason, not every OBD scanner reads all the Y61 sensors, for instance oil temp, transmission temp (in case of AT), fuel level, fuel pressure etc.  I got this OBD ( https://www.amazon.ae/gp/product/B07JFRFJG6/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 ) and use it with several apps I've found, but still I am in the look out for a Y61 friendly device :)

In the meantime, I comfortably rely on gauges and lights on the dashboard.

@imranaasghar81 - regarding your question about lights, check out Dragon Mart, there are a couple of stores where you will find interesting accessories, and lights among them. Hope this helps!

  3. @Frederic this is a fantastic overland themed drive, I dare to call it a signature one in case no other club would have thought or done it before Carnity.

Attaining approvals from my MoI and her technical advisors will be as challenging as the drive itself.

If I am not able to make it, I won't even dare reading the post drive reports as it will be without doubt an epic drive and will hurt knowing all that was missed.

    Fingers crossed!

  4. Job done!

We took off to the sand, warmed up for a while and moved on to attack ridges, bowls and steep climbs, but the desert and terrains like Al Qua'a demand concentration and attention to details. We had a fair share of fun as well as learnings in this drive, and in my opinion it is a good combination to become better at this sport we all love in this community.

@GauravSoni thank you, once again, for leading a great drive. The plan you devised to rescue the car from that bowl was executed to perfection, lessons learnt: discuss with the actors, take time to plan the route, proceed to a dry run and scout of the route itself, pay attention to details, and most of all keep a positive mind.  I, for one, doubted as I had seen a somewhat similar situation back in YT'21 drive, but we did it!

@Looper, @ASAD. , @munkybizness, @Zixuan Huang - Charlie, @Anoop Nair, always a pleasure to meet you all and looking forward to future drives!

If we don't see each other in the next couple of weeks, I take this opportunity to wish you all a happy holidays and an exciting and blessed New Year 2023.

  5. @GauravSoni there must be a part 2 of this drive!

Thanks for hosting a drive in Sweihan, overall we had a great drive, good pace, clean lines, challenges, and then there is the Nagra dune, which we enjoyed so much. @ASAD. and @Waqas Parvez thank you for your support throughout the drive.

@Haitham Khattab @Imteeaz @Amr Aydin @Ashutosh Garg @Senthil Kumar @Anoop Nair @Zed, it was a pleasure driving with all of you!

I've left some pictures in the gallery, hope you enjoy them!

Have a great week and hope we meet soon.

  6. Vine, vidi, vici!

First and foremost, a big thank you to @Carnity for organizing the drive, the wait was worth it not just because of the scenic drive, but because of the opportunity to spend a great time with everyone  attending the different drive levels.

@JeromeFJ thank you for leading us safely from start to end, and for the ready advice throughout the drive.  The terrain was challenging but we managed to complete the route. Thanks to @Rob S for being always ready to support and to @Haitham Khattab for a superb second-lead.

It was great to drive along with @Tom B, @Sunil Mathew, @Santoso Marjuki, @Imteeaz and @Gok Krish even for a while before he had to exit the drive, I sincerely hope your car gets repaired.

I've left a few pictures I managed to take during the drive, hope you all like them.

Until we meet again, stay safe and have a great week ahead.

  7. @varunmehndiratta thanks for hosting today's drive, it was great to hit the sand and speed for a while :). It was unexpected to see the crowd that formed so early at the start point, regardless of it we ended up having a great morning..

Thanks to the rest of attendees, it was a please to meet you all, thanks to @Looper and @Beide Worku for your support.

    Have a great week!

  8. Thank you @varunmehndiratta for the drive and thanks to @Tom B, @Senthil Kumar, @Imteeaz and @MMansoor for the recovery assistance during the drive.

After learning about the regretful events the day before our drive, I found myself driving with a bit of apprehension, and for some reason could feel we all were being cautious.  In my case, reflecting upon it, the uneasiness made me lose focus and that's when mistakes happen.

It was a great drive nevertheless and we all finished well and safe, with just a few scratches here and there in our cars :), but delighted with the route challenges and scenery.

Wishing you all a nice rest of the week and safe drives during the weekend.

Hi @Mario Cornejo, have you had a kill switch fitted? Can you recommend anyone that knows the VTCs well?

Hi, yes, I have a kill switch installed and, from experience, it is the best option to disconnect traction control and ABS while going offroad.

Most garages know how to install one, just ask them for a clean install, without wires attahed to fuse legs or similar.  My car is going through some check ups, as soon as I get it back I will share a picture.

In the meantime, you can experiment in your next drive by disabling traction the way you do, VDC by pressing the switch next to gear shift and ABS by removing its fuse (car off and preferably no key).

  10. Good drive everyone!  thanks @GauravSoni for leading us throughout the everchanging sands in Al Badayer area, and well done eveybody drove really well, we had a few minor refusals which adds fun to the day.

Climbing Iftar bowl is something I had not done in a long while and, at least for me, was the summit of the drive with the adrenaline of pushing the car up and joy of sliding down.

@Matt.T it was great seeing you again, as the saying goes "Buen viento y buena mar" (fair wind and safe sea) wishing you safe travels!

    Great to see you all!

Beadlocks can be essential for hard-core offroaders and rally drivers, but for regular weekend off-roaders if you tweak your driving style and be in sync with the correct PSI, you may have an accidental pop-out once in six months. Which is not a big deal.

This being one of the reasons why I ditched bead locks and went back to stock wheels.  I am now forcing myself to drive differently and avoid pop-outs, as much as possible 😅. I also got a good car jack for those situations.

Tires, according to the Y61 owner's manual you can move within the diameter range of 30.6" to 32.4", I compiled the information in a table and is shared below in case it helps anyone owning a Nissan Patrol Y61 :) ... items 8 and 9 are not stock, those are what I have installed.
