  1. Hey, the expedition is extremely powerful and stable, but the vehicle is heavy and with a long wheelbase. Yet, With the right training and proper off-road tires, the car is very much capable of Newbie and Fewibe  levels. Any level higher than that would require modifying the car (better clearance and underbody protection).

    if I had the time, I would invest in a diff-lock  for sure.

  2. Thanks Anish. I truly enjoyed every bit of the afternoon drive. I appreciate your efforts to push me outside my comfort zone to learn new techniques such as ridge riding. Also, I got to experience night driving for the second time!

    Excellent track/location selection from your end as well.

    @Frederic it was good seeing you again and thanks for the tips and patience.

    See you soon on the sand.

    Dear friends

    @Brette, @Veedooshee , @Ammar Naji

    @Clay Neddo, @Roy Armale , @Simon Ducos , @Paolo Pellegrini, @Alfred Alinazar, @Abdul Rafay-S , @Yawa, @Sunil Mathew, @Luc Khaldoun and @James Thorn

    yesterday’s drive by all means , at least for me , was the best treat to start such a beautiful day with and it was.actually yesterday I just turned 🎂... ( still young , but not younger 🤣

    I believe the various earlier feedbacks and comments has said it all and not sure if there is something more to add.

    If it wouldn’t be for the last minute two drop out , I would say this could be the largest convoy ever I drove with . Adding to that we had a variety of vehicles in size , power and colors as well 😉from the lightest 3.5/3.6 SWB/LWB  to the heaviest 5.7L LWB beasts having the later directly driving in front of me. Giving the ‘smart’ root selected by our lead and the diversity of difficulty all along from Khetem to Feya

    I would say and especially the back cars they have managed it to perfection for this drive . In many times I had to reposition my self to have a better visual to what is coming and honestly I was impressed . One point I would like to say that it’s always the driver who harness the power no matter how huge is it. Slowly slowly you will get better and better as you know your car capabilities more and more.

    Thank you @Brette for the amazing ride and lead as well as the patient teacher inside of you. Always pleasure driving with you

    @Veedooshee truly you were the perfect playmaker , the pleasure is all mine driving with you in team Carnity . Well done and your report was super 👍🙏

    @Ammar Najii drove with you several times , thanks for being a perfect second lead and bringing your Expedition to top of feya was a treat to watch 😉

    All the other Fellow Drivers each by his name thank you for coming to share the passion and for me it was really my birthday gift 🎁 yesterday 🙏

    Have a great weak till next time

    cheers

    P.S : pictures in Gallery and relive post above in the drive post already posted . Enjoy 😉

    Drive report

    It had been 8 months since I last ventured into the magnificent dunes around Mahafiz and Fossil Rock. Which, if truth be told, is shameful on my part as these sands have absolutely everything, including heavy traffic. However, a Friday afternoon in the blazing sun is not for everyone and so it proved to be as we saw just one other convoy in the 30+km we covered. We started off at the tree shade and headed out into the sands in a timely fashion and headed down the track. I tried to pick a route that was as vegetation free as possible in order to reach our first play area.

    Once we had reached our destination the convoy took it in turns to gently navigate the challenge. My jaw was on the floor as each and every member took it in their stride with barely an issue. In fact we only had one refusal but the challenge was completed at the second attempt.

    And so it was to be for the entire trip, we tackled no fewer than 11 (eleven) slopes and bowls, sweeping up, down and along them with the entire convoy absolutely smashing it! It was such a beautiful sight to see so many newbie drivers in control of their vehicles and mastering the basics of offroading.

    As we neared the foot of the mighty rock we encountered some congestion from a couple of kamikaze yahoos but the back of the convoy held firm and managed that situation , with @Shaaz Sha rerouting them away from any possible danger.

    And one by one we climbed, with not a single refusal, to the top of the rock! Incredible! I don’t think I have ever been with a convoy that hasn’t had a least one refusal climbing to the top of Fossil Rock. I shouldn’t have been surprised given everything this brilliant convoy had demonstrated earlier in the drive.  We didn’t take the steep route down, mainly due to the presence of the yahoos, I didn’t trust then not to come flying down behind someone, but we did sweep around and made our way to the exit point.

    @Glenn Waters- you handle your Montero extremely well, you had an absolutely flawless drive. Great job.

    @James Thorn – The lift and wheel change has certainly helped you get the most our of your Lexus, I think you had just one refusal but smashed it at the second attempt. Really nice driving today, I’m enjoying watching you progress. Well done!

    @OSKAR MALISZEWSKI – Wow! Your first Newbie and you absolutely smashed it! Looking forward to driving with you again soon.

    @Saddaquat Tanvir – Just a couple of refusals that you self-recovered from with aplomb, no drama! Really nice driving well done.

    @Charbel Yazbeck – My word , when I think back to the first drive I had with you and then look at you now. You’ve really started to get a hold of your car and your progress is fantastic. Keep it up, you’re driving really well.

    @TT_Dubai – Tim, flawless, nuff said!

    @WaYan – Great drive, in total control and always ready to steer down when needed. That is the mark of a good off-roader. Looking forward to our next drive.

    Huge thanks to @Ammar Naji who once again delivered a masterclass on how to be the perfect 2nd lead. 2nd lead is an incredibly important task at Newbie level,  I can’t thank you enough, you leave enough space and allow me to check routes to ensure it is passable for all members of the convoy and follow my instructions to the letter . Great job. P.s you also had a great drive today .well done

    Further thanks to the support team of @MUHAMMAD Kashif RAZZAQ and @Shaaz Sha, I don’t think you've ever had such a quiet day haha, not a shovel or a rope required the entire trip and it’s not as if I didn’t challenge the convoy. Still it was great to know you were there and great re routing from @Shaaz Sha to avoid potential danger from the kamikaze two. P.S @MUHAMMAD Kashif RAZZAQwhen do I get to lead Rafay? @Abdul Rafay-S😝

    Thank you to each and every one of you for communicating well, listening to and following instruction and driving so well. It was a pleasure to lead you all.  I had so much fun!

    Until our next adventure
    😊

    I enjoy driving alongside with as I learn something new every time. Thank you for spending time and effort to remind all drivers with the basics (self recovery, communication, right gear selection, etc). I like the statistics bit at the end of each drive as it puts things in Perspective for many of us. Stay safe and see you soon.

    DRIVE REPORT

    When all those pieces fall into place....

    The morning came with a bit of a breeze, and a lot of good company. I was supported by @Rahimdad today which is always a blessing, and seeing that he enjoyed himself in the back all morning, even if there was some shoveling to be done, made me realize that these drives are sometimes rare and when they occur you have to count your blessings.

    With @Lisa Pemberton as my second lead, we started off the morning by climbing Pink Rock, and venturing a bit on the back side to go all around it. It might be hard to tell but I am not sure if this drive went well because Lisa was in second lead, or if Kieran was next to her 🤣.. Just kidding. You never struggled anywhere, gave me enough space to find clean tracks, and was the perfect sidekick to this drive.

    @Sajit Modiyil you are finding your way in the Xterra, and together with @Mohamed Seidam those Xterras are proving their worth in this terrain !

    @SureshVNair you drive very well, and the few cases where you had small refusals you remained calm and got yourself out of the situation easily. Very well done !

    @Kailas and @Andrei who always bring some color to the convoy drove really well too, and slide through the terrain with much hiccups.

    @Mohamed Seidam your communication and relaying the information towards the back of the convoy is wonderful. Keep it up ! And you were the first on scene together with Kieran to help out @Lisa Pemberton on her valve core, glad to see that kind of attitude !

    @Ammar Naji you managed the terrain really well in this terrain, and the self recoveries I saw you doing were always with utmost calm approach and gentle throttle which is perfect for any self recovery, but especially when having a heavy powerful vehicle. Really impressed !

    @Tamas Hoffmann and @Rizwan Waheed I have put your vehicles together in the convoy as they are resembling each other. That is a trick I sometimes use to help the driver imitate the same driving style of the vehicle in front which can make it easier to get through the terrain, but at no point did I feel you guys were struggling and you both drove super smooth ! Keep those Gen3 Pajero coming ! :)

    @Dagdag Sofiane and @andy_macdxb both with the bigger Pajeros were doing just totally fine in the back of the convoy, digesting whatever terrain I took them through. Really impressive guys !

    @Hennie Schoeman your Willy's and you were also sliding through the terrain, and carrying a big smile all morning. Keep it up !

    @Abu Muhammad with your Sequoia being a gentle driver who took the car over every terrain, you really impressed me today, but since I know you had your first personal training from our Guru @Rahimdad there is no doubt you had the perfect introduction and we will be seeing you more often ! Take care and see you soon again !

    We have drives every week. All of them are different, all of them carry a signature. Today thanks to this amazing convoy we covered almost 30km with 15 vehicles, which is pretty good I'd say !

    See you guys soon in the sand !

    PS

    @Rizwan Waheed below some information on the radios and the models we use and recommend. The Crony/Motorola MT777 or the Baofeng UV5-R is a perfect choice and these can be easily programmed with below tutorial.

    @Frederic thanks again for the smooth drive this morning. I enjoyed every bit of it, especially climbing up the pink rock. Having a friendly team makes a big difference as well.i am thinking of investing in a max traks for convient self recovery. Let me know your thoughts on that whenever you are free.

    @Rahimdad

    Cheers for all the rapid support. Definitely added alot to my off roading experience. Looking forward to seeing you again ☺️
