Hi Richard @Wrangeld, looking forward to finally start driving after a year worth of experience as a co-pilot.
To answer your questions above:
1. My vehicle is modified with a 2in lift-kit, 33in AT tyres and off-road suspension.
2. My father @MUHAMMAD Kashif RAZZAQ handed me the wheel sometimes for basic driving, but I would still like to be looked at as an Absolute Newbie. Though I have quite some experience with sand (as a co-pilot), along side @Carnity for over a year.
3. To learn Off-roading in a safe and thrilling manner along side many other fellow members. I also see off-roading as an essential survival skill, would be nice to add it to my CV 😂
See you in sand soon!
Wooooohoooo! Finally! I hope you had a great time,

Drive Report
Where’s a car thief when you need one? Ha!! It could have been an absolute disaster when my car freakishly decided to lock with the keys inside. We tried all the tricks we had seen on tv but , I guess we should be thankful that no one in the convoy knew how to break into a car. Hee hee
1 million thanks to @Desert Dweller who literally saved the day by giving up her car which allowed me to take the convoy into the sand. Her actions verted an absolute disaster as the only other alternative was to cancel the drive. I’m sure the entire convoy was as grateful as I was
And so we headed in around 4pm and made our way to the play area. We started off gently, the convoy taking turns to navigate a gentle side slope which everyone handled really well, there was no fishtailing , and everyone applied the correct amount of power.
We continued into the dunes and had a couple of refusals along the way which @Goutamhelped resolve. At one point I let @Desert Dwellerout of the car to assist @Rory Ashman who was having some issues with the gears on his wrangler. I think that was the only time we had to get the rope out.
As we continued, I increased the challenge, we had another delightful area for the convoy to practice some gentle side sloping, Once again, the entire convoy stepped up to the challenge and every driver completed the task with aplomb with not a fishtail in sight and applying the correct amount of gas to give just enough momentum. BRAVO!
It was hard to believe that for many this was their first newbie drive given how well everyone was coping. As such I decided to increase the level ever so slightly, not the pace, but the technical aspect and we headed into some nice dunes that saw the convoy cross some low level , round ridges. Aside from a couple of refusals at the back in the churned-up sand (to be expected) the convoy kept moving.
And so it continued as we played around the bowls of Margham, enjoying the cool evening breeze and watching the sunset as we drove up and around in and out of the many dunes . We even had a pop out in a great location which allowed the entire convoy to circle their cars around and watch as the issue was resolved with ease.
It was such a great fun drive, and that is all down to you guys! @shu yang you handle that Y62 very well, but perhaps your son disagrees haha. @JamesThorn, a flawless drive, well done. Likewise @Larry Cadden you had a great drive. @Rory Ashman you found your desert wheels and did well after a sticky start. @Aisha S well done, nice driving and thanks for the pop out learning opportunity., @Saddaquat Tanvir well done you handle the LC well. @Charbel Yazbeck amazed at the progress you have made in just a couple of weeks, well done! @Sunil Mathew, flawless drive, likewise @Simon Hope and @WaYan, both of you had flawless drives at the back of a very long convoy. Bravo!
Many many thanks to @Ammar Naji who was the perfect second lead , thank you for listening and diverting when I needed you to. You did an amazing job. Also to @Wade Pat2 who anchored the middle of the convoy for me as a very last minute CF and to @Goutamwho swept at the back, helped keep everything moving and was great helping with recoveries when needed. Of course , thanks again to @Desert Dweller, without whom, this drive would never have happened and for the support when needed.
Finally, a massive thanks to the entire convoy, not only for your great driving, but that you all listened to instructions and clearly communicated via the radio all of which helped make this a great, fun and safe drive.
Until our next adventure 😊- 6

Hi all, just seen this one tik tok and thought it will be an interesting case to discuss what went wrong
Basic fighting gravity and fishtailing thus the roll. It is a classic how NOT to side slope. As soon as his back end starting going down he should have steered down.

Good afternoon fellow adventurers,
Tomorrow's drive will see us enter the tantalizing but forgiving dunes of Margham, the area has lots of nice low level dunes with some delicious low bowls too. This drive is all about practicing your newly found off-road driving skills whilst having lots of fun in the safest possible way.
We have a large convoy of 15 with predominately newbie drivers, however I have interspersed the drive with Fewbie drivers too which will provide you with nice tracks to follow as the convoy, no doubt, becomes extended. Please don't worry if you have a refusal or a stuck, as we have plenty of support available to teach you how to self recover, and how to use your shovel if needs be. We love when we get the opportunity to demonstrate these skills so please, embrace the refusals, it happens to us all.😎

Post Drive Report Convoy #2
There was a thought at some stages of Saturday morning when I thought that this drive was cursed. Not one, but two leads pulling out due to car problems, 26 drivers arrving to potentially the longest convoy in many a month and then, our angel, @Foxtrot Oscar conveniently being awake and amazingly prepared to come out and lead the convoy at a single minute's notice. There's a reason how and why people are prmoted to marshal in this club.
With an exceptionally frustrated @Jeepie by my side we did get under way. As she said herself, she had a plan for the drive (as it was supposed to be her lead and not mine) and I apparently went off plan within around 200 meters of entering the sand. Not having your own vehicle and being a passenger when somesone else is driving 'your' drive is nowhere as much fun.
It's been a while since I drove at Pink Rock. I tend to avoid this area because the dunes are normally very heavily used and it's a challenge to find a route that is not covered in cross tracks. Up to Pink Rock itself, we did well to find a lot of virgin sand. We could see glimpses of Convoy #1 in the distance, there were not so many convoys operating in the area and our drive was quite incident free all the way up to the base of Pink Rock.
Seeing that our club compatriates were crossing the Rock, we decided to follow suit. I am not sure what was happening inside @Danish Mohammad Pajero that it has problems getting up the hill - and eventually it managed and we were on our way once again.
Climbing up through the cross tracks to what has now been named 'Bird Bowl' we saw beautiful birds before swooping down ourselves in the direction Big Red and the slight less Big red dune nearby.
There was a point at which I think there was someone did a radio check to make sure that the radios were still working, so slilent and trouble free was the convoy initially as we enjoyed a smooth ride on our way to the bigger dunes. @imranaasghar81 was doing a great job in 2nd lead, @Watteau relaxing in the Raptor will little to do apart from the odd reroute or self recovery and @Arman was doing sterling work at the back. We started to have a few refusals as the soft shifting sand impacted the back markers - totally expected on a drive like this as we approach summer. @Russ even got stuck at one point, much to our and indeed, his surprise: probably an aural relief for Danish.
It's hard to pick out anyone from the convoy who was not perfroming exceptionally well. @Abdul Rahman AK, @Nithin Vaidir @Humayun Ghias, @Chris Wing@Matt.T @JeromeFJ and @Thomas Varghese were making it all very easy and we all enjoyed the fun of chasing, and being chased by Convoy #2.
For me it's a real pelasure knowing that there are club drivers close by on another convoy, doing the same, enjoying themselves and learing their way through a drive.
It was also great to have multiple drives over the long break with the same people, so I can see how you react to different challenges.
And then, as we got into the higher more challenging dunes, two pop outs and a very difficult FJ stuck in a pocket and we had some receovety work to do. This slowed down progress on the way to big red, but was a great learning experience for all concerned. @Abdul Rahman AK and @JeromeFJ - thanks for the lessons.
Once again, we played tag with the 1st convoy. I wish someone could have got a picture of the Raptor moment on the hill with @Dodi Syahdar, @Watteau and @Russ all powering up and down at the same time, the two leadfoot beasts looking like a stereo picture as they misirrored each other.
This was great fun and we were all planning to leave the area when suddenly @Thomas Varghese vehicle literally concked out. It turned out the batter was simply exhausted and hd given up the ghost, but meant we had to quickly lead everyone out of the desert and then leave a small group to return to recover the stricken Xterra.
Special call outs for the day.
- @Jeepie sorry you missed out on your lead.
- @Foxtrot Oscar the saviour of the day and shall now be known as St. Angela
- @Arman who impressed so much as the sweep
- @Watteau a wing man that antone would be proud to have on their side
- @Nabil Bishara well done on your first lead
Strangely, this was officially my 50th lead and I have apparently clocked more than 100 drives. Truly, these numbers mean nothing because I continue to learn every time I take a vehicle out into the desert. There's so, so much more than I need to learn and to practice and try to perfect that every drive feels a bit like the first.
See you soon in the sand.
Awe @JeepieI'm sorry you missed out on the drive and worse still had to be a passenger. @WrangeldI loved that you guys were nearby . It was so much fun! And great to catch up at some points too. I can't wait for this covid hell to be over so that we can get back to having real Carnity 'Community' drives and can all mingle and share our stories out there in the sand!

Second Convoy Drive Report (once more nudging in ahead of @Wrangeld)
It was just meant to be I guess, there was no reason for me to be awake at the ungodly hour of 4.30am but for some reason I was. When @Chaitanya D said he had car issues , I happily jumped in. Truth is, I love this area, it is the perfect fewbie training ground for the larger bowls that lay ahead as you advance through the Carnity ranks.
We started off by finding our desert wheels in the smaller but super playable dunes at the start of the route with the entire convoy in sync. After a short while we were all treated to @Nabil Bishara lead. He took us all the way up and over Pink Rock, guiding everyone as he did so. Well done @Nabil Bishara, it was a great lead, you chose a really nice path for everyone to follow. Not one single car had a refusal at Pink Rock, the entire convoy making it at the first attempt.
As you had all demonstrated how well you could handle your various cars, it provided me with the opportunity to increase the level, ever so slightly. 😈 We left Pink Rock and headed into the wonderful low start shaped dunes to the East en route to Big Red. Here were able to sweep up and around, in and out and up and over keeping a nice pace and perfecting some great off-road skills. Again, not one refusal as we tackled these dunes. We were even treated to the site of locals with parrots, I think, perched on stands. What an awesome shot that would have been, but we know locals are camera shy so we didn’t disturb them.
As we left the area the dunes grew in size and we started to climb more and more, I think it was @Darren Brooke who had the first refusal of the day, never go off piste mate, just wait and I’ll guide you through. A quick pull and he was free of the crest. I looped around a few times gaining momentum to join the rest of the convoy who were at the other side of the dune. We were all following, or so I thought, when we had another crest. @Rawad Bahsas careful with your GoPro buddy 😆. Well done to @GauravSoni and @Dodi Syahdar for helping me out with that one, it was a weird angle, in a tight spot and the sand was super soft.
As we made our way down, and around Big Red we met with @Wrangeld's convoy, and @M.Seidam got himself crested in the most spectacular fashion. Quick dig and he was free. We overtook @Wrangeld's convoy as one of the drivers was stuck. Wrangled was waiting in position for the next play area, and it would have been remiss of me not to tell him of the awful situation he had to deal with. 😇
Having secured our spot at the play area 😎 🤣we all took it in turns to climb up and down , before we allowed Wrangeld's convoy the opportunity. We plotted our way around Big Red, climbing up and coming down on the various areas as they presented themselves. As we moved on to the ‘Road Side’ side of Big Red we climbed all the way to the top where we met with another convoy, I’m not particularly sure they appreciated us barging in, but thems the breaks, they were playing in a bowl, we were sweeping the area. The convoy became disjointed at one point as @Miguel Codes lost the track, I headed back up and took them down with @Miguel Codesdoing a turn at 2nd lead , and a great job he did too.
We had one more climb left in us with everyone handling it well and we were about to go again, but one of @Wrangeld's drivers had car issues, and with that , all good things came to an end. The convoy was led to the tarmac where they could inflate etc, and I went back to help out.
I have to say I thought you all did brilliantly, and handled absolutely everything I threw at you. And I threw a lot at you! It was the first time I had driven with many of you. Honestly, thank you, you made it such an enjoyable morning! Well done @Miguel Codes @Werno @luis mantecon @Goutam @Ranjan Das @Darren Brooke @Rawad Bahsas @Malachy McGrogan. Bravo! Great driving.
Thank you thank you thank you for the great support from @Nabil Bishara, @M.Seidam @GauravSoni @Dodi Syahdar
Until our next adventure ☺️

Drive Report
Good evening fellow adventurers,
Well that was fun! Everyone met promptly and got themselves ready for the drive without any issues aside from the radio frequency that for some reason was not clear but easily resolved, we switched channel.
As we made our way into the dunes the large convoy following, we had some nice low dunes to create little u turns in. Everyone seemed to be coping well. The convoy headed to some more challenging dunes where we kept a nice pace and had some decent climbs to conquer. En route to the more playable areas Murquab has to offer we had a car side crest, ever so slightly, it clearly just slipped off the track . With Carnity we always try to recover without the need for ropes, and with @Craig Finlayson, @MUHAMMAD Kashif RAZZAQ and @Desert Dweller all on hand with shovels we dug it out of trouble. The key to de-cresting a car is knowing where to shovel and allowing gravity to work for you. With some left/right and gentle gas the car was free.
As we approached another medium sized dune the convoy took turns to climb on top and carry along, with all of the convoy doing well and managing to get on top with only a few refusals caused by being a bit gas shy. This is par for the course when you’re learning what your car can do in the desert sands. You will all learn with time and practice just how much gas is required for certain dunes, taking into account, not just the incline but also the consistency of the sand.
As we approached the last dune before the sabka we took turns to drive up, across and down in a nice u shape, taking care to follow the tracks created as to avoid the little land mines that are shrubs of grass. These should always be avoided at this level as they cause your car to bounce erratically. The entire convoy coped well with the challenge. We were also treated to a masterclass in how not to tackle dunes safely as, what I can only describe as a marauding convoy, gate crashed the drive with not a safety flag in sight. We saw fishtailing, overtaking refused cars and quite frankly utterly reckless driving. Those guys were very fortunate not to collide with each other or worse. Still, it was very entertaining haha.
We headed back into the small tighter dunes to experience something a little different before we headed across the sabka and onto the track that led us to the enchanting dunes of Solar Park. All the convoy handled the more technical dunes well with only one refusal. With the sunsetting and the pristine sands offering a range of challenges the convoy continued along its way. The convoy became disjointed a couple of times. It can be hard to see tracks in the sand but I choose a path that I know you can all follow and is free of danger therefore its important to ensure that you always have eyes not only on the car in front but on the car behind you too.
I have to say it was heartening to see the gradual improvement of many of the drivers during the course of the drive. I was pleased that many were following advice and using the correct technique to tackle dunes safely and without creating an issue for yourself.
As darkness began to fall, we had one more crested car to deal with A little digging, and the car was free but the issue was not resolved as it then got stuck at the bottom. @Craig Finlayson used the winch to get it out safely as it was in a particularly tight spot. Refusals and stucks are part and parcel of drives at this level, they are so incredibly valuable, as you learn so much from them. For example, you all now know that, at this level, you must approach an up and over dune straight on, or to put it another way be perpendicular to it.
Darkness was truly upon us by the time we had recovered the crested vehicle and the sabka and track were not far so we made our way out having covered 42km with the newbie convoy experiencing a little night driving as a bonus.
Charlie, @Zixuan Huang you had an excellent drive, and handled the Pathfinder really well, well done.@Charbel Yazbeckyou definitely became more confident as the drive progressed after a sticky start and had a great self-recovery to boot, well done, keep it up.
@Ishraque Ahammed, a few refusals but a good drive, you’ll get used to what your car can do in time.
@Kassem Zaiter, you drove really well, and didn’t have any issues , aside from losing the track haha
@Cale Hugill, flawless drive, well done, Likewise @Wade Pat2, the drive presented no issues for either of you and you both demonstrated lovely technique when completing the challenges I threw at you. Well done!
To the more experienced members of this Newbie convoy, @Probir Mukherjee, @Senthil Kumar @Thomas Varghese@Lakshmi Narasimhan, you all said it was a chance to chill and enjoy. I’m glad you did and also that you adhered to protocols to ensure our newer members had a good driving experience. Thank you.
A very special thanks to the team who supported me today. To @TT_Dubai who was immaculate in executing the 2nd Lead, Tim I know it is a relatively new experience for you , but you handled it with aplomb, well done.
To @MUHAMMAD Kashif RAZZAQ who was my CF and always on hand to help guide drivers with refusals, thank you . Finally the two at the back, @Craig Finlayson is alright , I guess he’s got a winch so kinda helpful 😉 , and @Desert Dweller who swept up everything at the back, continually offered advice and ensured we all kept moving.
Finally, thank you to all of you for accompanying me on this wee adventure in the sand. Hope to see you all again soon .
Until our next adventure- 2
